I've seen MANY defenders pull up and glide over the sliding QBs head, maybe with some minor incidental contact. Azeez fully used his forearm the punish Lawrence's head with his full force with no sign of pulling up. He had enough time to react. He chose not to. Suspension warranted.

AND Al Shaiir had to put up the brace on his forearm into his head? Hardly. This guy not only had a previous hit back in Sept, he hit a guy on the sidelines who was not even in the game. That hit back in Sept was $11,000. Of course, now he gets ejected and he can't believe there's some accountability.

I did not know that part of this...I only saw a couple of replays, and it looked 'kind' of bad...but I was thinking this is football after all. But in one of the angles of the replays, he is actually using this part of his arm, it really appears this way, as a weapon 'with malice' as you state. Yes. Now, after watching it again, I think the NFL needs to go further and ban players from being able to play with any kind of hard object that can be used this way. The whole point of protecting that arm is counterproductive; it is supposed to protect the player wearing it, not benefit him to now throwing powerful strikes. I imagine, like steroids, if you could find nice titanium plates to put on your forearms, that might help you become a better defender.

It's a simple law of physics in play here. 230lb back throwing himself forward. No retro brakes, no rudders to help shift course. A body in motion stays in motion unless acted upon by an opposing force. Pure and simple. And yes, it's wonderful to look at frame-by-frame replay in slow motion. But try doing that "in the moment". Should he have been fined? Yes, but not for that hit, but rather for the temper tantrum that he threw after the play was over. The brawl that erupted after the tackle was by both sides, so an opposing penalty was justified. And the offensive player was also ejected. But, this "QB Slide" issue is the root cause. And I feel that any QB that is running for gain, has declared himself to be a running back. Fair game. Rather than allowing a slide, have the QB take a knee. Or even better, how about we limit the QB to not running or not running more than 5 yards beyond the current line of scrimmage. Make the QB's responsible for their own safety instead of penalizing the defense for trying to do their part in the game.

Trevor is literally making eye contact with Azeez as he is coming into the hit. These are good exceptional athletes who react to instinct....I've seen players react by pulling up when QB's slide. Although it may be a hit to the QB, it doesn't end with a vicious blow to the head like Azeez did. he finished the hit all the way through without the intention of pulling up at anytime during this play.

That was DELIBERATE and the kind of hit that could have ended the QBs career. I've seen DOZENS of QBs slide after a run this season and ONLY ONE QB has gotten a concussion from being hit. The rest of the time, they know the slide is coming and just bend down and tag them to end the play. This guy has a record of taking cheap shots and throwing down his helmet and getting into another fight after the play shows his LACK of control and hot temper. He should have gotten suspended for the rest of the season so he has time to ponder his choice of aggression in his playing. He can have his career threatened without a major injury.

Azeez may very well have thought he would contact the upper body instead of the face, in which case the forearm would have not been dirty. Trevor had to make a choice, either run like a fullback or run like a QB, but he tried to have it both ways and his slide was late.

Football hit? They have promoted having QBs slide for over a decade now. The defender adjusted the angle of his hit downward after he say that the QB was sliding. If he was doing a real football move he would have gone completely over the QB.

Azeez was hit with a dirty hit he didn't even see it coming Trevor was able to see it coming also you need to protect yourself at all times just like in boxing protect yourself at all times no one but you have the responsibility to protect yourself or trust no one

Akbar, that was intentional. In real time, had Trevor not slid, I bet Al-Shaair would of adjusted and tried to tackle him. No, Trevor slides and Azziz unloads using a weapon at Trevor's head. It's BS!

New rule should be from now on any qb who fake a slide and gain extra yard will cause lost of down or possession. Then maybe defensive player will stop hitting qb the moment qb slides.

His hit on Lawrence is indefensible. He lead wth his extended forearm in the direction of Lawrence's throat/chin. It's fortunate that he wasn't more seriously injured. Then he compounded it by his actions afterwards. If we want to see the best players on the field instead of in the treatment room then they need to come down harder on ill disciplined players.

What bothers me most about this dirty player is his attitude, after having gone against a player who is sliding and is defenseless, the rule is very clear and there has been a lot of talk about this for a long time, but there is nothing to say to justify a psychopath who attacks a player who is sliding in that way, but as I said the worst thing is his attitude afterward, a total brawling bully instead of being sorry for the bestiality he did.

Criminally charge him. Forearm leas is not legal and could have permanently injured the dude.

  • @kokoken1

Maybe the problem lies in a combination of leading with the forearm and the speed Al-Shaair was going when the collision occurred. I think the league handed down a three-game suspension, knowing he will appeal and it may be reduced to two. I think the league would call that a victory. Also, no doubt the rule regarding fake slides needs to be looked at, and it most likely will be. BUT it's tough to draw a distinction between juking the defender and an outright fake slide. One thing the Competition Committee looks at is, how do we officiate this situation? That's going to be the difficult aspect of any change in the rule.

Lawrence was definitely trying to creep forward as far as possible to get the first down before sliding. If you’re going to slide, then slide. Don’t think you can cheat out a couple yards and not get hit.

Get rid of the slide. He was defending the first down marker. I was a running back so I have the offensive perspective.
He is not Burfict. I remember Shaair on the 49ers. Hawks played him twice a year. No memory of anything dirty. He was fast and hits hard.

Make it a rule that if an offensive player is going low, all a defender has to do to end the play is touch him, and the play is over. That should give defenders all of the reason they need to just pull up and bail out of a tackle and just brush the offensive player with their hand.

    • @trueterror3099
      @trueterror3099 8 дней назад +4

That’s already a rule. If a player goes down on their own the play already stops.
The only time a player could get up is if it try stumble over themselves and no one touched them previously, or they caught the ball and was not touched

The play is dead when the QB slides and they always mark the spot where he began the slide not where it ends.
