People tend to forget how awesome Tim Duncan was. He was never flashy, but he always got the job done. What I noticed watching them play against each other is that the majority of the time Duncan took Garnett right to the hole, while Garnett shot mostly jumpers against Duncan.

This video collects the early years TD vs KG every 1-on-1 plays available in RUclips.
Those 1-on-1 plays did not only include basic matchup plays,
But also some offensive rebounds grabbed during matchup, or some open shots due to missed rotation during their match up etc.
But mostly are actually TD vs KG.
It did not include TD vs KG plays after 2005.

The two best PFs of all time, honestly (TD 1, KG 2)
It *is* tempting to consider Giannis over Garnett, because Garnett's biggest claim to fame was being the most versatile player in the world in the early 2000s, and Giannis today is even more versatile. However, Giannis is not the dominant rim protector or post presence that Garnett was, so I still prefer Garnett.

    • @zhugelianges
      @zhugelianges  Год назад +2

Anyway Giannis is also a beast, have dominant rim attacking ability, can post 30+10+5 every night, and just like what you said, is very versatile. I thought many people will put Giannis at #2, but I have no opinion on your pick, bro. Garnett is just one of the best of all time.

Obviously the public sentiment nowadays is that TD is the best PF of all time, so great that he's often considered around top 5 of all time (even though many still weirdly argue that he's the most underrated player ever😂), but videos like this is so valuable in that unlike stats, it gives us the the how and why these players are great.

“Summary of what the eyes see”:
    NEITHER could guard the other!
    Here’s the differences…
KG skillfully beats Duncan generally in one move/play
Duncan usually feasted on KG in the paint since he was Durant before Durant and light in the ass but it typically took Duncan more effort to score on KG 1 on 1.
MIN would double Duncan often whereas Duncan generally guarded KG 1 on 1.

Kg had the game and size and mind to be a top 10 all time player . If he had a teammate like truth and Allen - the way Duncan had teammates and Kobe did - and say he had five rings as they do. he d have surpassed both in terms of greatness . His game is just unselfish , complete , intense , an all time game they would be great in any era. U talk about unicorns and aliens/ kg was and will always be the original prototype freak, alien , unicorn . When he came there was no one like him before. I’d say a guy like Robinson or Coleman moved like a guard but they really didn’t. He did .
Now the league is full of players who have been made from his mould that he cast.
He was the original big guy who could move like a guard. Really. and all other s are based off his original design .

My only knock on KG was that he just wasn't selfish enough offensively. He had such an array of offensive moves he should have been more selfish. Especially playing in MN where they refused to put other HOFs around him. TD could afford to be unselfish in San Antonio because of the sheer greatness he was surrounded by. KG could not afford to do that. Thats also why KG was so successful in Boston when he went because he could afford to be unselfish. People forget those Boston years and how they went. That Boston team should have won 3 in a row. They were by far the best in the league pre KG knee injury in 2009. '08 far and away the best and KG was DPOY and should have won MVP. 2009 they were the leagues best team and then KG shatters his knee and is never again the same player. Lost all his athleticism and elite lateral movement. Yet in 2010 they still went to Game 7 in the NBA Finals against the Lakers when Kendrick Perkins tore his ACL in Game 6. If not for a Ron Artest miracle 3 the Celtics take it home. But thats the way life goes, I suppose.

Obviously, Kevin Garnett is the better player vs Tim Duncan. But, if you ask people will say it's the other way around. KG has better offensive skills, faster, quicker, jumps higher, so, if you are going to coach KG or Tim it's going to be different results. If you will play them like in NBA 2k or nba live you will see the difference is attributes. For me, KG is the best PF of all time.

    • @aeriskabkr1110

Agree with you, timmy's most all defensive selections is quite overrated. He didn't won defensive player of the year unlike KG, and timmy's performance in his last 3 championship is less than kobe's performance in his first 3 championship with shaq. Timmy played like a role player in his last 3 rings while kobe played at an allstar level all in his 5 championship runs. Also, garnett is a better shooter than timmy, KG had the range and skills. The big difference between the two PF's was that timmy always had a better supporting cast and a great coach

  • @pidoka809

Timmy benefited from having hall of famers around him hes whole career, making the game so much easier for him; while Garnett was surrounded by scrubs. The couple of times he had decent squad he made WCF and won a championship.

    by Kamala Das
There is a house now far away where once
I received love……. That woman died,
The house withdrew into silence, snakes moved
Among books, I was then too young
To read, and my blood turned cold like the moon
How often I think of going
There, to peer through blind eyes of windows or
Just listen to the frozen air,
Or in wild despair, pick an armful of
Darkness to bring it here to lie
Behind my bedroom door like a brooding
    Dog…you cannot believe, darling,
Can you, that I lived in such a house and
Was proud, and loved…. I who have lost

You know how many 30+ point playoff games KG had? 7 😂 Duncan had 40. KGs offensive game didn’t translate in the playoffs. Relying on the 18 footer led to tougher shots, more one shot possessions and no double teams, all things that Duncan didn’t allow by simply planting his ass down low. Hence why he won titles almost doubling the PPG of his next best scorer whilst KG never won a playoff series unless he had 2 near 20 PPG scorers
