KG deserves the final MVP. His defense and he was punishing Gasol. Lakers had to end up double team him to free up Pierce and Allen. Reason why Celtics won that finals.
The only reason Paul piece because of game one where pierce was wheeled out and then came back for a great performance but we all know what really happened
KG, the Big Ticket, was one of the greatest power forwards in NBA history. He should have had four titles. But, misfortune allowed three titles to evade him, all due to injuries. He was one of those players who had mastered his craft to such an extent that his game became like a great work of art. The turn around jumper, the midrange jumper, the leaping ability, the pin point passing, the great rebounding, the quick outlet passes to half court, the ability to protect the rim while also protecting the corner three pointer, the running of the court as a big man, and the high basketball IQ. Garnett is one of my favorite basketball players of all time. As he once said in a playoff series, he was a problem out there for the other team.
I thought of that exact number as well! Four! Alot of people don't know or overlooked the fact that Sam Cassell was injured during the 2004 western conference finals. He was a very important player for the Timberwolves that year. It still would have been tough to beat both the Lakers and Pistons, but I think they would have done it. Then 3 in a row with the Celtics from 08-10 if he wasn't injured in 2009. Sometimes it's just luck, injuries and who you are fortunate to play with. If Garnett had as much luck as some of his peers he would have at least 4 championships in my opinion.
The Big Ticket over the Big Fundamental for me. Sure Tim may had the better overall game and career but KG just screamed basketball, he exemplified the heart of the game and that's what he had the best. Heart.
Great point by Jeff Van Gundy! Did you do everything in your power to become a champion? If you did, it doesn't matter if you won the trophy, you are a champion.
Who is here after KG wrote a heartfelt letter about Kobe. To say the least, we were blessed to have the two of the most competitive athletes who have excelled in their respective position. Thank you for the motivation and inspiration.
Think they should of let him come back in December or January because of that prior Injury, Kg in 2012 would smoked that La team in 2010 he was literally peak whe they played him at the 5
KG is never as smooth as KD in offense. KD plays like a shooting guard. KG plays like a small forward. never really post up. just one or 2 dribble and shoot his mid-range. but in defense, KG is a ferocious defender. great rebounder. very sound defense. very hard to shoot over KG. he ever made tim duncan worked hard to get off his shot.
Love this storyline coach rivers hides the cash in la and he knew to win this thing we gotta comeback through la se he set the tone gave em a vision it's time to turn it on and they had the right leaders the right coach at the right age and time
Karl Malone was a monster, and my man Kevin McHale, well if Charles Barkley says that McHale was the best PF he played against that is good enough for me. The three you have listed are monsters too picking a top 5 or even 10 at any position is extremely difficult. In my opinion basketball in the '80s and for the most part the 90s was a big boy sport. Those dudes beat the shit out of each other. I mean they would get in fist fights and not even get thrown out of the game let alone a technical foul call. Nowadays players are pampered and babied overpaid prima donnas, and if you breathe on them wrong they call a foul. I mean if you didn't come out of a playoff game bleeding then you weren't playing. Those games were so much fun to watch, and those players earned their money. So I'm always going to give the nod to players from the '80s and '90s because of the heart and soul and blood sweat and tears that they put into every game.
I was still a kid during this finals and a Kobe fan. But now that I’m watching this, KG really can move swiftly with that size at 4. Leads on transitions. Top key and low key and pretty much around the court he can maximize the floor and get some points. Beast. ☘️
As a Lakers Fan, thank you Celtics 2008 and 2010 for having Two Historic competitive Finals and hard-earned championship wins on yall and us! This 2008 Celtic was an amazing team we lost to The big 4 and they were also amazing in 2010 too it was to the wire!
Don't care what anyone says as a Celtics fan KG should've been MVP nothing against Paul but KG played on a different level than anyone in those 08 finals.
Man, although I was pissed that Kobe and the Lakers lost this year, i couldn’t even be mad because I was super happy KG finally won a championship. I feel like besides Kobe, nobody at the time deserved a championship more for their NBA resume other than KG. He and Kobe were my favorite players growing up. Both coming outta HS, Kobe looking up to him, giving him advice to make the leap. I respected KG’s maniac intensity and love for the game, I digged that about him #differentanimals #samebeasts ✊🏿✊🏿
Totally agree. KG was def the most accomplished player in the league at the time to have not won a ring, mainly due to circumstance up the there in Minnesota. It was about time he got that opportunity. Although paul pierce got finals mvp, i thought kg played just as well in this series, was very consistent throughout. It was a tough loss to accept, that game 4 blown lead was crushing. LA had a legit chance to win that series, tied 2-2 w g5 at home. Instead theyre down 3-1. Boston was undoubtedly the better and hungrier team tho. I dont think they were going to be denied that year. They were like how the lakers were in ‘09, just straight determined to complete their ultimate mission at all costs. Kobe and kg on the same team would have been greatly intriguing, believe there were talks in ‘07ish. Pau turned out to be that guy tho. Kinda like kg, no real success in memphis, got his opp in LA. Both guys came out as champs.
domcarter I couldn’t have said it better myself. That game 4 loss was a serious bed wetting moment for LA. I rewatched that game, and their bench killed us, namely Posey and House. Definitely the tougher team. I’m just glad they got it done in ‘10. But overall, had Kobe lost to anybody else, I’d be more pissed. No shame at all losing to KG
KG had this look like in his eye, that entire regular season, the playoffs, and especially the finals, like he was out for blood. The man had the look of a killer shark. I knew Celtics would win that year because of that look in KGs eyes. I watched that guy battle for years in Minnesota and I could tell he was fed up. Him only winning one ring doesn't matter, he's still top 5 greatest PFs of all time.
God KG's jumper was just MONEY every time. It has to be one of if not the cleanest jumper by a big man. He'd just look at the basket over your head and nail it right in your face.

Further, the Celtics were a top 2 defense this year (2024) and won it all, the Mavs were the best defense post all star break, and the Twolves eliminated the reigning champs with defense. All this to say, your comment is almost entirely wrong, in every way possible. Nice job.
Kavin Garnett was easily the best player during those finals. As much as I love Paul Pierce, the Finals MVP should have been given to the Big Ticket
@LeBran Flakes especially Game 5 when I thought that they would finish the Finals off, but yes he did save his best for last
KG deserves the final MVP. His defense and he was punishing Gasol. Lakers had to end up double team him to free up Pierce and Allen. Reason why Celtics won that finals.
The only reason Paul piece because of game one where pierce was wheeled out and then came back for a great performance but we all know what really happened
@LeBran Flakes I’m just a big reason he got finals is how heroic he looked in game 1

Man, KG's jumper is one of the most beautiful ever - especially for a big man.

I wish the celts had formed years earlier so that we could’ve possibly seen a spurs vs Celtics finals. Would’ve been an amazing series to watch.
Ahhh man Duncan vs Garnett in the finals 🔥
No doubt
This kind of Celtic? Spurs wouldnt stand a chance
The only team who can hold them of the last 2 decade is Piston 2004 and maybe KD Warriors
Pierce and Ray would of gave it to the spurs. Especially since Kawhi not there.
Before KD there was KG. He could do it all. Cross you over as a big, fade away jumper, defense, midrange, pass with flavor. Amazing to see.
KG is a much much much better defender than KD
KG is never as smooth as KD in offense. KD plays like a shooting guard. I feel like Kevin Durant is what Kevin Garnett would have been if he didn't get injured

Without KG that Celtics team not an elite team. He was something else. He bring the championship.
KGs impact can't be expressed in a highlight reel like a scorer. He brought so much more to the table than what's shown here
Duncan Garnett Nowitzki the greatest PF'S 💪
