  • An interview Mr. Blechacz did for Dzień Dobry TVN in his hometown Nakło nad Notecią on 2015/3/27.
The interview is in Polish, but it's definitely the best interview I've come across so far. Not only do you get a glimpse of Mr. Blechacz' hometown, the school he attended, the church and priest that was instrumental in the discovery of his musical talent, you even get to hear him play the organ (!!!).
The original video is still available on the media's own website:

Polish fan coming with a Polish translation, thanks for the upload :)
Rafał: We are in Nakło, I was born in Nakło I could say here is where it all began. Here begun my adventure with music, to be precise organ music.
Spokesperson: In 2005 he was the undisputed winner of the 15th Chopin piano competition although hardly anyone knows that Rafał Blechacz's music adventure begun in church.
Priest: since childhood he was interested in organ, he wanted to play on them
R: With this instrument you could say I connected my future. I dreamed about playing in this church.
P: Here his artistic soul was being shaped, his potential, his power. We listened to his playing and realized we don't know this instrument we didn't know about it's possibilities.
S: later there was piano and music school and because of that individual study course in high school.
Headmaster: It turns out Rafal Blechacz is not only a graet artist, most importantly a great artist, but also a graet student notice there are only very good and good grades.
S: He studied in state school in Bydgoszcz, there he also graduated music university
R: Here is the class where the exams took place. Hello.
Teacher: hello. Please come. Since you are in our school it's time for a short exam
    R: well, why not
    T: what are these notes?
    R: I think F
    T: and this?
    R: A
    T: what about this one?
R: D I would say going slightly to C sharp which means the piano is a bit out of tune unfortunately
T: When he came to me for the first time he could recognize all the sounds in every register and key even as a little boy he showed he had great abilities. Did he change? I haven't seen him for 12 years surely he is more manly the look in his eyes is different he is more mature which is heard in his music.
S: He plans his concerts a few years in advance in Poland he performs once every 5 years we met with the pianist during this special ocasion in Warsaw philharmonic.
Interviewer: why can we hear you so rarely in Poland?
R: It's about 45 concerts a year so given that there are so many countries on the globe that's more or less how it's divided
S: a year ago in New York he received another prestigeous and valuable award - Gilmore 2014
R: It's a great sum 300 thousand dollars which I can spend on further development of my career
I: So I understand you could buy a Ferrari with this money or not?
R: If I explained it properly that this is for my career development and because I travel a lot in Europe by car so maybe it would be possible.
I: Do you like driving fast?
    R: I do that's why I like German highways
I: Does it happen that you get stopped and then you have to pay or you just pull out your CD?
R: It happened once when I was driving from Copenhagen to Amsterdam I had a concert with orchestra one day after another, luckily I had a CD with Chopin's preludes at hand because the police officer turned out to be a music lover
I: Does your heart beat faster except for music for someone else? Do you have time for that?
    R: Sometimes I do.
I: Is your partner also connected with music. I'll just ask that I won't dig deeper.
    R: Yes and no.

Yes. Music makes him happy. This is his old school. Director was showing his grades. AAAAAAAAAA. Very smart. Very good school. Rafal was born in this City, and he said I was born here, and I can say everything start here. They say in this video not many people know he start with organs in Church and he from the childhood was interested in organs. Rafal said he was dreaming to play this instrument in this church (when he was a little boy).In this class he has he exams. Now for good old times they play that part. Teacher said when he come to this school as a little boy, he was able to recognize all scale, and everything else. She has not seen him for 12 years. They ask him why only every 5 years he play in Poland, he has concert planning for few years ahead and in Poland he plays once in five years, and this is why they was able to talk to him now. He is there for the concert. Last year Rafal receive another Gilmore award and he say he can use the money for his artistic needs. She asks him if he can buy Ferrari with this money, and he laughed, said if I can prove is for my artistic needs- maybe. He also said he likes fast cars and when lady ask him if he was ever stopped for the speed Rafal said yes one time when he was going from Copenhagen to Amsterdam -I had concert day after day I was stopped, I had CD with me and the Policeman love music and let him go. And at the and she ask if he has time for other love them music, he yes, sometimes. And last question was is she a musician and he said yes and no. The end.Now you know same thing we know. God bless you.☺
