All the bending styles are based on different martial arts, but I don't remember which ones off hand.
Remember that Gran-Gran says that airbenders haven't been seen for 100 years. That is a key detail.
All animals in this world are a combination of two or more real-world animals.
The best way to think about bending is that it is a hereditary trait that isn't garunteed to be inherented.

Oh this one is gonna be GOOD. It is remarkable how loved and praised this show is after so many years. I personally consider it as one of the greatest stories ever told. I'm looking forward to your reactions
One little touch that I always really like is how Katara said “I’m haven’t had this much fun since I was a kid“. It really shows how war can can make someone grow up much faster than they should.
When I watched this ten years ago I really liked it. When I rewatched it I remember being impressed with just how tight the writing was.
you calling sokka soaka in the beginning gave us all war style flashbacks to when the live action adaptation called him that
Waterbenders can bend ice, but Katara is still inexperienced here. However, when she got angry, you can actually see her breaking the ice indirectly/unknowingly.

So glad you're checking this one out! I grew up with this stuff myself; it's definitely a show that grows on you and grows itself as it goes on. You think the writing, the visuals, the heart of the show is compelling now... just you wait. One of the all time GOATs of storytelling in my honest/humble/perhaps-humorous opinion: nothing like it since.
On that note, thanks so much for choosing the OG cartoon show. The difference between this and the Netflix reboot (as well as with M Night's trainwreck) is so night and day in favor of the OG, we like to say "there is no live action in Ba Sing Se" (you'll understand later.)

Hell yeah! Once you're done, I'd very strongly recommend Xiran Jay Zhao's videos on the cultural inspirations of Avatar, whether you react to them or not - I thought they were fascinating.
