My god this episode was so frustratinggg. EVERYTHING ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION WAS SOOOO IRRITATING. And one can see that this one runs deep with Aishwarya and Aryaan because they genuinely get it. It wass soooo evident that they seemed genuinely frustrated because it hit so close to home.

Based on Anita s phone call from Praveen, its likely Gage tried to rob or bully Praveen. The police are totally useless with their investigations and responses and ought to be disciplined. Gage need to be thoroughly investigated.

I learned about Pravin's story back in 2020 through Stephanie Harlow's detailed 3 episode podcast and also watched a few of his mother's interviews. I've clicked on this video now in 2024, and before starting it, I have a pit in my stomach as even though its been over a decade, I remember the rage I have for the entirety of the judiciary system that caused injustice towards Pravin and his family and to humanity in general. This case presents the reality of the challenges that most of the people who come from minority face in the US.
When I stumbled upon your podcasts , I thought the channel is alredy pass a milion subs , its crazy how yall dont have it already because the production is very good . Love your content and the way yall present it .Hope yall achieve bigger milestones soon :)

I remember when this case happened. I remember reposting Parvin missing poster during the initial phase of the case. Such a disheartening case! RIP Parvin. I wish his family strength, peace, and ease.
As an American, who’s not only lived here but also studied criminal justice system, sociological issues, and race relations, I can guarantee you that the element of race definitely plays a part in every aspect of American society. Whether it’s law enforcement, healthcare, educational institutions, workforce, etc.. Law enforcement tend to not put much effort or emphasis in cases involving People of Color. This topic is one of the concerns expressed in the Black Lives Matter movement and White Woman Syndrome theory.
Non sense..you studied criminal justice system and talking non sense..u mean criminals are getting respite and slack bcz of their races?? This was a case where they worked enough to get the clue and due to lack of substantial evidence they could not held the suspect. The first suspect who gave him lift...nobody could establish that the guy was actually k**lled in the woods ..he didn't die out of starvation and cold but he was murdered... irrespective of class race many loose lives..many gets k*lled but lack of evidence spoils everything..

Why did Pravin ask for a ride from Gaege whom he didn’t know from before? I wish he had made a different choice that day. My heart goes out to the family and Pravin- I have a teen ready to go to college and these stories are scary and the denial of justice is heartbreaking.
Then be aware that America is a safe place until it’s not. Why he took a rise from Gage? Why is the snow white or the sky blue? Thats what young, naive teenagers do.

How did Robinson not try to piece Anita's phone call with his theory? Like it makes sense somehow. Cuz she said that there were noises of brisk walking and dialogues like "give me that back", "I'm just trying to help you" and stuff and then a car door being closed AND He talked abt them dealing drugs and getting into an altercation.
I know life is all about freedom to do anything you want but as an audience, I want you guys(my frens) to stick to crimes and not unscientific mumbo jumbo bhootbusters and shit. This is your USP

I had heard a theory about his case a while ago... I think it had come to light sometime around the trial, I'm guessing, but there is a version wherein Pravin (being the helpful, "good-natured" person he is, actually did take the money from this dude to try and prevent him from getting more drugs. And the whole scuffle began because he wanted to get his money back to, indeed, go get more high. Hence the call where Pravin was heard saying that he was trying to help him. It also explains the overturning of the case because, as far as I know, one can't be convicted of first-degree assaults leading to fatality if it's not premeditated and/or they're mentally unaware - i.e. if he was at all intoxicated to that degree at the time of the fight. Claiming mental defect of some kind, at the time of the crime, essentially.
Though, that makes the whole thing somewhat sadder because you have a young, good human being have to lie freezing, in pain, for those last moments of his life, just because he truly wanted to help someone not give in to their addictions.
Just makes sense in my head I guess, that it may have played out that way. But great coverage, as always. As a true crime junkie, I love what you guys do, and am totally here for it!
This case was showcased in one of Investigation Discovery channels show called still a mystery. I remember watching about this case and also hearing about it on an American podcast show called Crime Junkies.

Today i saw your three videos probably but this one gave me chills fr. I genuinely feel bad for praveen that despite being a kind helpful guy he ended up being helpless. The praveen's story makes me worry for my friends and it made me emotional that it has been a decade that he is no more and he would have lived wid his family happily.

Remember this case , we stay an hour from Carbondale . Infact I used to play cricket with a lot of folks from Carbondale , very unfortunate .
“Knowingly” means his thoughts, proving mens rea. Which is the mental aspect of murder. If that word wasn’t there, they wouldn’t need to prove mens rea, it was just be manslaughter, or grievous bodily harm. The intention to harm is hard to prove. I think the prosecution was trying to determine the worst sentencing possible and completely forgot how vital wordings in these situations can be. They had chosen the wrong provisions to charge him for. The actus rea (actions) were proved, but mens rea (mental) was not proven. There needs to be concrete proof that he committed those acts “knowingly”. Laws are very intricately worded, coz in their eyes it’s better for 100 criminals to be set free than for 1 innocent person to be wrongfully imprisoned.
I think it's impossible to smash a person that bad "unknowingly" right? This verdict is fishy and biased.

As a black/Indian woman in America, this does not surprise me. Sad, depressing, but not surprising. When people say there is systemic racism in America, people should not be so quick to say it's not true. My heart felt sympathy, and prayers goes out to his parents and other parents who have suffered at the hands racist and incompetent police.

I had to stop the video half way througg and watch a video of cute puppies so that i wouldnt thhrow up. This case is so infuriating and scary.
With so much advanced technology at that time still a big country like USA couldn’t figure out this simple case. Firstly, the police didn’t bother to track his last phone location. When they found the suspect they didn’t bother to track his last phone location or the no of cell phones detected at that murder location on that night at that time frame. They didn’t arrest the suspect considering he was the last person the victim was with. They didn’t consider his female friend’s testimony which matched with the suspect story.

I cannot explain why this case had a potential to make me cry! Is it the frustration? Maybe yes. Is it the sheer mistreatment and misportrayal of the DECEASED poor kid? Definitely yes. Why? I have no clue.

In law, when the word "knowingly" is used, it means that the defendant realized what he was doing and was aware of the nature of his conduct and did not act through ignorance, mistake, or accident. Knowledge may be proved by the defendant's conduct and by all the facts and circumstances surrounding the case. Why would anyone be confused by the word "knowingly." Especially a college guy should have know waht it meant but I feel in my heart that this was what the judge used to justify getting Gage off. I think Gage in some way was connected to someone in the court system or police department.
How can I relay my horror experience to you guys...
