Best thing would be to update the instruction sheet to address this issue. I just finished putting my chair together and, luckily, I found this video explaining what to do. I’m not disappointed, it’s a great chair!!

MAN! My Serta chair would go from sometimes tilting to randomly not (I guess the lock would get kicked in and sometimes it would come out and that’s when it would tilt.) I went months without being able to tilt back and I just now decided to look up troubleshooting tips. Literally 50 seconds into the video and I solved a problem I’ve had for months lol thank you!!!

Brilliant thank you so much - i was about to dismantle the tilt adjuster thinking it was broken (wouldn't rotate loose). It was the lock mechanism that you pointed out - I had been spinning on the chair the night before and my legs must have knocked the lever. I had no idea it was there :)

My tilt stopped working so I flipped my chair over and squirted penetrating oil on everything, I flip it back over and the tilt started working again, I thought I fixed it. I figured I'd like to know what's under that cap so I can figure out how I fixed it, that's how I found this video. I must have bumped it to lock it, and bumped it again to unlock it. I hope next time it happens I remember how to fix it. Thank you.

I bought a chair for my son and did that and it tilts as much as it is capable of. But that's the problem, it doesn't tilt very much. How can you increase the range of the tilt?
My brother would kick my chair sometimes and it'd lock randomly, so I thought something was broken, so I jiggled it around for a bit and it tilted again. It's been locked for a few days now so I decided to research about it. Lo and behold, the tilt lock was pushed in.
Pulling from it, might need to rotate and pull in some models, but it might also be that your chair doesn't tilt. It usually has some drawings on the knob explaining what each movement does.
