I came to figure out why the heck do chairs sometimes it tilts and sometimes it doesn't. And I just figured out my chair. The lift/drop lever is also the tilt lock, just had to pull it outwards instead of lift/drop. I just got my chair today and was already wanting to throw it away, but I got it figured out now. edit: yup this video helped me. I didn't know chairs have a tilt lever.
i just bought a chair too. and spent 30 minutes trying to understand why my chair tilted first and doesn't anymore. I didn't understand why from the video but your comment helped a lot so THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Thank You for Posting this!!! I finally decided to google repair options for my fave Aeron chair. This is just whats wrong with mine. Ive been stuffing pillows under the seat but they always slide out the back... I hope my repair is as simple as yours. On my list to try tomorrow.
Good video, but can be done without the removal of the seat in 5 mins tops. Problem I am having is that the metal part keeps sliding off the plastic pin so I have to rinse repeat the same thing over and over again. I did not have any clamps so I decided to use some superglue to make the PIN thicker on on end. So far it hasn't come off again :) Great vid tho, thanks for sharing this!
Great idea however if I was to do this I would highly recommend using super glue instead its less mess and much stronger and will last much longer. Your comments 4 years old I DOUBT it lasted that long but I could be wrong? Feel free to chime in? ;)
Great video. Very useful. My tilt locks and stays locked until you get up off the seat at which point the tilt unlocks, requiring you to lock it again once you sit down.
Mine issue is slightly different. it will lock but if i put to much weight on the back it will become unlocked giving you a real OH crap moment! Good to know about the pin and how this mechanism works.
Thank you so much for this. Just fixed my chair. Have to vent for a second though because my pin keeps coming undone! Can't believe they give this chair all these accolades for engineering and design.
Thanks, I just fixed the tilt on my chair after putting up with it being broken for 10 years. But why is it even necessary to undo the 4 screws and remove the seat? It's possible to take the cover off the box in the middle and access the tilt chain without doing this.
Same fault has just happened to my Aeron, hope it's the same fix! Also, the arms on mine gradually slide down the adjustment guides, the finger wheels don't fully lock them.
I have rhe killabee gaming chair but almost no videos exist of showing how to repair tilt thing. Mine is 2 weeks old and the tilt give out, so I can lean back at will without fiddling the lock. This makes for a terrible chair. Any idea of repairing is simular to ass seen in this video?
1:50 you make this look soo easy. I'm struggling to make any head way. I even have those same tools. Seriously what is the trick with the clips, can you show some more angles of the actual clips and top cover?
"you need a (mumble, mumble)" After carefully listening I hear, "allen wrench". What size? Metric? SAE? After that I moved on to a different how to that actually told me what I'd need.
I noticed your chair has only the rear tilt lever but has a slot for the forward tilt lever. Mine is the same. Do they make chairs with different tilt options? Every photo I see of the chairs online show them with both levers on the tilt side for forward and backward tilt.
@@ClassicalGuitarRUclips I found out they are made with 3 options. Ours doesn't have the forward tilt option, but the arm brace still has the slot for the hardware. It's normal.
Yup. Mine didn't come with either cable/handle on the left side (locking tilt/forward). But it has the option to install it. I might install it. Forward tilt I'll probably never use but might use the locking one.
hey my chair locks on back tilt but it doesn't save its position...everytime I sit on it I have to set it...I feel like it didn't come like this...can I repair this like in your video?
ajsuited you'll most likely have to order it from Herman Miller, give them a call and let them know you know exactly which piece you need. Hopefully they'll sell directly to the customer.
Thank you so much!!! You probably saved me $100.00 or more!!!!! Took like, 20min to repair. Much appreciated friend.

This may have been made 8 years ago but it helped me out today and I fixed my chair
Awesome video. I purchased a used Aeron over the weekend, and the adjustment to help the chair lean forward is broken. This is very helpful.
This video helped me fix a chair I purchased today. Thank you for taking the time to make it.
It was a 3 minute video, just change the playback speed you psycho
I have the opposite problem. Mine won't tilt at all. It seems to be stuck in the upright position and the levers don't do anything.
Mine just started doing this and only had it for two weeks, was there any way you was able to resolve this?
Mine was broken, the tilt gear part was 20 euro on eBay and easy to replace. But I first scrw a tech screw to join it and worked wonders for a while

This is exactly my problem, will try this out shortly and report back. Thanks for sharing!

Can you make a video on installing the forward limiter please?
Great video. Very useful. My tilt locks and stays locked until you get up off the seat at which point the tilt unlocks, requiring you to lock it again once you sit down.
If the tilt is locked, rotate a lot the + / - knob, a lot until it unlocks

+Neil Graham I have the same issue.
Mine is the same, did you find the fix?
I got a second hand Aeron and think the tilt is broken. Is it very common for the Aeron tilt to break?
Thank you so much for this. Just fixed my chair. Have to vent for a second though because my pin keeps coming undone! Can't believe they give this chair all these accolades for engineering and design.
Same! You'd think a $1,800 chair would be better designed. What a disappointement.

My tilt is fine but it won't hold its integrity, any1 know the fix?
Thank you, 5 minutes and totally fixed!
The guy makes it look easy.
everything he did in the video is extremely easy, lol

what if the little plastic pen is broken? is there a replacement part?
do you know where i can get a hip pivot bolt for the chair

What type of wrench / Allen key do we need to open the screws?
same question, I tried 6mm but it is too big and 5mm is small
Thank you for this, very helpful.
"you need a (mumble, mumble)" After carefully listening I hear, "allen wrench". What size? Metric? SAE? After that I moved on to a different how to that actually told me what I'd need.
Is there a way to install front tilt one a chair without it?
I'll try this tonight. Thanks!!
i can't, for the life of me, turn those screws...any ideas?
Great tutorial! Thank you
facing same broken pin issue-is there a company that sells parts for the chair?
I just bought a 2003 Aeron size B. The tilt tension adjustment does not seem to work. Any tips?

wondering the same.... just purchased one with only the rear lever tilt

my size C has a very very tight tilt limiter lever. which part of my aeron do you suppose had gone bad?
hey my chair locks on back tilt but it doesn't save its position...everytime I sit on it I have to set it...I feel like it didn't come like this...can I repair this like in your video?
yeah same, u find a solution?
Same
no
thanks for the video, but with my aeron I can't tilt back at all, it seems to be locked. what do u think? thanks
Hey guys as I tilt back and forward there is a point where it wobbles. Anyone else know a fix for this?
can you tell me what screwdrivers i need for this
Mine is new and I feel like the chair is tilting forward making me feel like I’m falling forward out of chair
forward title is probably engaged?
how do you replace the piece if the pin is broken?
ajsuited you'll most likely have to order it from Herman Miller, give them a call and let them know you know exactly which piece you need. Hopefully they'll sell directly to the customer.
thanks!
if the pin is broken what do lol i don't have a metal lave
New black part that rotates. Same as me. I'm gonna try super glue it first
seems like you could ha e screwed or unscrewed everything on your own time....hard to watch....
How about thanking the guy
