Thanks! I had some problems with AOV's ( Cryptomatte ) and the Beauty output having weird colors so here's how to fix it:
Disable Deep Output for the Beauty.
Enable Legacy EXR Mode in USD Render ROP.
Still no idea how to make the VFB work.

@@ExacoMvm The VFB is not yet working for an image sequence in Solaris. Cheers!

@@LoveVFX Yep it seems like VFB doesn't work in Solaris at all since it reads everything from Obj/ and Out/, in that case is there alternative for OCIO and Shader debug or I simply have to build the materials in Houdini and then import to Solaris? Even tho assigning mats in Houdini is pain in the ass compared to Solaris.
However in Solaris I have terrible VRay performance, the initialization is far longer than normal VRay, RAM usage is crazy also no matter what I do the rendering is slow, full of hotpixels/fireflies and there's no way to clean it. Can't tell if I did setup something wrong or it's limitation/bug.
Bucket rendering also seems to be not an option.

@@ExacoMvm I am sorry to hear that, unfortunately I can’t help you with all of that but you should write a mail to Chaosgroup. I hope you get it sorted out! Cheers!

@@LoveVFX Apparently VFB works only in USD Render ROP ( Save to disk ) and is experimental which also needs a bit of extra configuration in the rendersettings output and USD ROP so it's a bit disappointing but hopefully it will get implemented properly soon. And about the performance issue I think the reason was that I did setup the Dome Light / HDRI wrong, used the environment tab and disabled the vray dome light itself also in general probs messed up the settings a bit as I was unable to get clean image despite setting everything to extreme values like 128 max subdivs, noise thr. 0.0001 etc.

Hi, Thank you very much for this tutorial!
Chaos documentation is a bit lacking on the subject, it's really nice to have your explanation as a base start.
Coming from v-ray for 3DSmax, I'm used to color correct on the v-ray Framebuffer and to work with the Aces workflow. I don't know how to approach color management with solaris, and if there's a way to colorgrade with v-ray framebuffer within the solaris environnement.
Do you render in classical linear workflow and then colorgrade in Nuke?

      Hi Jiluen,
I am glad you like the video.
Yes, at the moment I am using an old fashion linear workflow (no ACES) but that will change in the future.
I am planning to learn more about (ACES, V-Ray & Solaris) so I can share that knowledge with my viewers.
But that will be some time next year.
You can use the V-Ray framebuffer in solaris too but it is not 100% integrated yet.
      Cheers!

Hey man it is great to see videos like that!! Do you know how to setup vray in solaris to render deep EXR?

      Hi MarcelloPC,
yes I do know that: You can activate deep rendering in the settings node.
      Cheers! :)

Hey man really great video thanks ! but I got a little problem when I try to render maybe you know the issue... a got this error : "Command Exit Code: 1" and "Failed to completed render: exit code 1 Use a Log Viewer with External Render Processes enabled for more information" maybe it's because i'm using H20 with Vray ? I don't know but I'm very curious about your answer :) cheers

      Hi Louis,
I hope I can help you since I experienced the same error.
      1. Make sure you are not rendering into your dropbox.(It kooks like, the constant streaming to the cloud messes with the writing of the exr file)
      2. Don’t use any scattered assets with displacement (I had displacement on trees which always gave the error code you wrote about).
      3. Although it is technically possible now to use material X with V-Ray, I just had problems with it.(I would not recommend it).
      4. Try to optimize your scene and render settings (Use as low of a polygon count in your scene as possible, adjust your render settings so it just gives you the render quality you need and not more (otherwise your renderings can take much longer than necessary).
      I hope that helps!
      Cheers!

@@LoveVFX Hi ! thanks a lot for the reponse so yes I do all this think but when I open the houdini console they told me "No cameras found in the USD file" I'll find out why, thanks for your help and look forward to more Solaris Vray videos it was really really helpfull :)

    • @LoveVFX

@@LouisVelainevfx You need to have a native Solaris camera in the scene to get rid of that error message I suppose. If you need to use a object level camera just link the transform data from the object level to the Solaris stage camera and match the camera settings to get the same framing.
      Cheers!
