I have never seen another skater with such perfect line, balance, and artistic skills. Perfection is the best word for her.
Just was watching the 2022 Winter Olympics and quickly realizing that performances like this one are worth way more than the unartistic quads and triple axels that the women are doing today. This was (and is) exquisite women's figure skating in my opinion.
WOW! WHAT A SKATER! BEAUTIFUL, STRONG, GRACEFUL, AND FLEXIBLE!🤗😌😊🇺🇸
Sasha should've placed 1st after this short program in SLC.
She looks like a young Alexis Bledel! Like watching Rory skating!
Still my favorite to watch 🤗🤗🤗
Прекрасная Саша Коэн. Жаль, далеко не всегда могла чисто две программы выкатать. Короткая часто лучше, чем произвольная, получалась, но все равно прокаты этой фигуристки очень любила смотреть.
Soft spot for John Nick. I remember him coaching Tai Babilonia and Randy Gardner. The best pair skaters ever.
Единственная американская фигуристка которая мне нравится👏👍❤🌺
Breathtaking and exquisite. She did do well in the SP in SLC, such a pity about the LP that was not skated well at all.
Perfect 👌 awesome 👏 ❤️
5.6 for presentation? That's so low, should've been no less than a 5.8
Wow, Russian music! 🥰
Sasha's mother is Russian, Sasha speaks fluent Russian .
Sasha should've won the gold
enough with the laces!!!!!!!!
Nobody compare to Sasha Cohen when she performs like this and with such inspiration
Sasha should have been on the podium. Best spiral, perfect lay back, fabulous split jump, and as Peggy said, "completely brilliant!" Great speed.
Just a point of info...I think the commentator was Sandra Bezic, rather than Peggy Fleming.
This is one of her most beautiful programs ever, excellentely skated here. In '02, Sasha brought to the World the joy that sublime skating with Perfect lines, innovative spins, daring quadruple jumps attempts and profound music interpretation was posible. She had the flexibility of a rhythmic gymnast tied up with the grace and expression of a ballerina. She did what seemed impossible to do on ice, and watching that is goosebumping.
Sasha was always queen of the short programs.
There is only one Sasha Cohen. Brilliant. Amazing. Unrepeatable.
My God, the balance, the grace, so amazingly beautiful!
The in-air positions during her footwork sequence were glorious.
Best short program of the decade.
Her flexibility is INSANE!!!
gorgeous!!! ahh i miss sasha's skating so much!! everything here is perfect, pristine, clean, gorgeous lines. every little detail is perfect
It breaks my heart to even watch this now because I know she totally falls apart in the long program that follows. She is so happy here.
I totally came here for the spiral sequence!
Love Sasha Cohen!!...The best female figure skater!!...😉😄👍👏
Sasha's positions are legendary.
She shouldve been in first or second after the SP.
What a darling little skater! So young and there is an intelligence to her...
Wow her flip was much better back then. and also, she deserved at least 5.8's and 5.9's for presentation!
Love Sasha, always
Sasha was soooooo very special.
Какая чудесная и красивая девочка! Прямо летает и парит на льду. Лебедушка! Потрясающе!
Sasha is like a dream come to life!
I remember watching this back in 2002.
Sasha is wonderful... My favorite skater!!....
What a presentation :)
I cried wen i watched ths..her spirit has been so amazing
My favourite short program in the olympics that year :) ... the triple flip was landed with such lovely soft knees .... but this was her first big competition so I guess the judges are already very "generous"
Amazing. Still want of the best skaters when she skate cleanly.
Sasha has the most flexibility and beauty in skating out of these 4 girls. Sasha and John were magic! That man was amazing!
She is very pretty!!
Perfect
I just noticed that her flip technique was much better here than in later years....after the 3 turn, she jumps right away and doesn't hesitate and wobble on the edge like she did later.
Some blame Tatiana Tarasova for changing her technique (particularly for the 3F), which made her less consistent with her jumps.
Those nasty judges who dissed her time and time again now probably wish they had this beauty skating in competitions instead of the crap skaters they have to look at today.
love her
Her presentation was so much above others. I don't get how Kwan got all 5.9 for her dry skate when Sasha got 5.6 or 5.7. The judging of this Olympics ladies figure skating was totally messed up, and now people are complaining on Sochi? Overall the choreo and elements those years were pretty boring.
Most agree. Judges.
So So right!!!
Agree. Kwan was somehow unlucky in her 2 ogs (the order for FS). But she did receive unfair favorite from judges among her career, especially after 2001.
Liliya Ugay The crowd OBVIOUSLY saw the excellence and adored her -
I never ever liked Kwan and never ever will like her. Kwan is North American sort of paradox. And only.
@SunshineGirlUa
Thank you! I just finished watching the film (with subtitles) and wow, what a crazy movie! What a love triangle!
How this wasn't placed first is beyond me, I mean Slutskaya ahead of her???
Cause Slutskaya's performance was great as well.
Mmmm, i guess, skating is so subjective
exactly. but this was before COP, when judges still had the "wait your turn" mentality. This was Cohen's first major event. They wanted her to wait.
*pssst* The judging panel. The judging panel.
She definitely deserved to be at least second..
For me, Sasha Cohen was and still is the epitome of skating perfection even though she didn't win multiple US championships as the overhyped Michelle Kwan...No other female figure skater had the gorgeous posture, balletic stretch and artistic impression as Sasha....She was by far even better than Michelle Kwan!!...Miss those fantastic days of pure figure skating!!...Miss you Sasha!!...☺️👍👏💃🏿⛸🌈
I had this first as the SP, with Kwan second and Slutskaya third
You had it correct
Саша мне кажется похожей на Юлию Липницкую - такая же гибкая и растянутая , прекрасная фигуристка
agree completely
@atomicLogic It is from the USSR film "My Sweet and Tender Beast"
@96horseluvr I just saw her tonight skating, she still has it! :)
She should've been 1st or 2nd after the SP and Sarah in 5th or 6th.
Agreed. Sarah under rotated all of those 3 loops too! 🤔👌🏽
Never liked Sarah, even on a good day.
And she also flutzed quite a bit
I agree -- she should have been ahead of slutskaya .... never should Irina have received 5.8 & 5.9's for presentation.
6th?
Шикарно!
Great
Es HERMOSO verla patinar... por favor!! es inhumano lo que hace!!
Wow her flip was much better back then.
💖
Oh my 6.0 no IJS yet I feel so old
awww she was sooo little :')
I wonder how pissed John Nicks was when Tarasava told Cohen to do that weird twisty delay thing for her flip technique. The triple flip in this video is textbook and she never performed one like this ever again--referring to the 3 turn in to it.
Holy smokes did you see that split jump!? @_@
He split jumps were phenomenal! And she's the queen of the spiral sequence!! 💖
Problems in Sasha's short: circular footwork didn't close the circle and was very shallow, lutz was flutzed and not landed in the circle, double axel took off from the heel. Those are deductions that I could easily see. Her spirals always had excellent extension but lacked speed and "heart", her sit spin has terrible back position as its hunched over, but her split jumps were outstanding.
All fair deductions, if the judges were as critical of Irina and Michelle, which they were not imo. Also, her presentation mark should have been 5.8 at the lowest. 5.6 is indefensible.
@@fong03 Her program was pretty but honestly the choreography was very simple so 5.8s was perfect for her.
Rewatching this competition in anticipation for the 2014 olympics and I must say, it was so stacked, with all the top skaters in contention. I like all the top four ladies but I really thought Sasha took the cake with this program. Such a lovely, tonal skater with all the technical merit. Sasha should have taken the SP, with Irina in 2nd, and kwan in 3rd. Kwan's footwork and spirals seemed rather lackluster compared to Sasha and Irina. Unfortunately, I feel Kwan was handed her medal.
Judges. Kwan was the favorite and that subjectively influenced their judging.
I feel like Sarah definitely deserved gold, but Sasha deserved silver. (And bronze for Slutskaya.) But there was no way they would have let Kwan leave without a medal.
camille32087 Lots of people admitted that behind the scenes...
Sos una diosa
cool
Yulia reminds me of her so much
Yulia Sebestyen was nothing like Sasha!
They not only had insane flexibility, but artistry as well!
Yeees, they have something in common
Gorgeous indeed, Sandra Bezic :3
What song was this to? It's so mysterious sounding... would be great in a movie.
Waltz Eugene Doga from the movie "My affectionate and affectionate beast"
idk why but she reminds me of natalie portman
wow the flutz is so obvious
Yeah, they all flutzed before there was instant replay.
Everyone complaining about Evgenia's minor flutz...look at Sasha's! I love Sasha either way
サーシャ・コーエンやっぱ凄いや。
I never got the sense that Michelle was conceited. She seemed very sweet. Winning multiple titles would not give anyone the right to be conceited however.
That being said, I would have put Sasha ahead of Michelle in the SP and LP during these Olympics. The SP is debatable, but not the long. The judges gave her a gift here.
Sos una diosa.
When skating was gorgeous....now ruined by ugly spins and nervous arm movements.
*sigh* - so not the case - many would think Sasha's 2006 Olympic Silver was a very lucky medal.
I couldn't disagree with you more. Michelle had a great spiral!
Ed Rivera Crowd loved Sasha
elvis
OH HEY :)
Sasha is just like me, I have this OCD with tying my boots right before my name is announced when I am competing lol
Russian spirit
@Daniluvsxx Because it's cold out on the rink and they're wearing very little clothing
What was that ridiculous comment about "your teenage son"?!
Triple flutz and, according to Sandra, shallow footwork. I think her second mark could have been higher. I hope she scored higher than Irina (but probably not).
Sasha's spiral sequence is very excellent but Lutz's edge is teriible. FLUTZ -_-
Vern Lundquist's comment that parents would be afraid because she would ask the boy out.....is SEXIST !....Also...I wish Scott Hamilton would limit his constant chatter....it spoils the aesthetic experience.
She is the Mohammed Ali of figure skating. The Greatest of all time.
Well stated Miss thing sings. I couldn't agree more. Cohen was seldom better than Kwan. Let the record state. Skating is everything taken together not simply flexing acrobatically. Kwan was mentally tougher, better coordinated, musically & choreographically. She presented a program better & skated with more grace. Cohen is vastly overrated.
jan tellit Kwan was simply older thats all.
For sure....this was far better than Kwan's short and in fact better than anything Kwan ever did. I don't get the judges scoring but it appears that once again they gifted Kwan win. Kwan didn't think it necessary to even perform a new and fresh program and if ever there was a seriously over rated skater it has to be Kwan. And how she gets gushed over for being gracious escapes me. She is so conceited and expects to win every competition and pouts if she doesn't. Something is wrong here.
omg Sasha plagiarized Kwan's outfit!
1veggiemonster ...they all have lookalike outfits from time to time..Sasha looked gorgeous in this.
Yes. Very lucky that Irina had an even poorer performance than Sasha.
There is some truth to Howsa's statement though. I don't think that was the case in this SP. They all skated well.
The long program is another story.
Blech, could never stand her.
Irina's performance was better than Cohen's long program. This girl shows line & flexiblility but not a lot of expression in her choreography or program. Kwan did a lot of those same spirals The Bobek & the charlotte. Cohen is vastly overrated. Hughes would've have been spectacular if she'd worked more on her line & carriage. Her height & long legs would show off lines to perfection.
