For what it’s worth. Taylor, I’m proud of you for being you on this channel. For attending this important conference and making new, valuable connections with your peers. Yes, your peers, Taylor. You belong there on that stage; you have earned the right to be there, you’ve certainly paid and continue to pay your dues. At the moment, you’re going through the bush to get to the picnic. You’ve got this!!! 😊😊😊

I was fortunate to see Temple Grandin speak shortly after my son's diagnosis. I was living in MT and she was there. She has connections with the college because of their agriculture program and was in town. She did a talk at a local theater and I went. It really helped change my perspective of autism at a critical time for me. So grateful and happy you got this experience! 💞

I LOVE what Beth was talking about helping severe patients with multiple comorbidities forming these complex pictures that are being treated in isolation without any joined up care. I'm so happy that she's highlighting this and really focusing in on this in her own research. Thank you so much for everything you're doing and good luck with your research.

With your work, you have helped so many people and have made us feel understood and validated. It is lovely to see that you feel the love of the community and that you had such a positive and meaningful experience. Before watching the video, I should have followed the thumbnail's advice: "Grab your tissues!"
I hope the recovery process is going well and that you can take the time you need to rest and process the experience.
By the way, the part about the anxiety of getting sick or something happening right before significant events on the calendar felt so relatable.

Thankyou so much for sharing this reflection about your experience, in such a fresh, raw, gracious way. 🌻 This advice you gave was so beautiful, timely and encouraging for me: "Tell your story imperfectly. Tell it before you feel like you've got it right. Tell your story however you want, with words, art, music, design. Tell your story however it makes sense to you, because it's important. You don't have to be whole for your story to matter. In fact I think that a lot of times when we tell our story from a place of brokenness that's even more powerful. Tell your story because you matter and you're unique, and there's nobody like you and that's a really beautiful thing."
I'm 49 and I still haven't used my referral for diagnosis. Still masking and trying to do all the things ... sometimes I feel like the idea that I have autism and/or ADHD is all in my head, but I have decades of journals filled with pages of evidence that suggest otherwise. I invalidate my experience because diagnosis seems overwhelming and expensive. Will I find the right pages and the right words at the right time, in order to feel understood? I'm scared in advance of the way people I love will invalidate whatever the result is, as they already dismiss my desire to learn more about this part of myself.
I'm not sure if I'll find the funds and courage to pursue formal diagnosis, but your words help me feel seen, and give me courage to keep writing books, making art, encouraging other sensitive souls, and thriving in moments of hyperfocus, secret stims, unmasked autistic joy, connection with others in the AuDHD community, solidarity with others in my life who also self-identify, learning to advocate for my needs and boundaries with less guilt, figuring out how to work 'with' my brain and so on.
Your channel and a few others make this all SO much easier and more enjoyable, and I can't thank you enough. I'm glad you were invited onto a stage where your voice could be amplified and your connections could grow.

The movie about Temple Grandin is how I eventually discovered that I was neurodivergent. I kept that rented DVD for a month. I made a list of things about her that we had in common. I would ask people, “are you like this?” about various commonalities I had with Temple. They looked at me like I was crazy. I would say, “I’m like that!” My wife and kids believed me, but my birth family as well as the last friend I had were highly skeptical. I only have my wife and kids in my life now.

This is wonderful! Thanks for your transparency. (Interestingly, your eyes are even more bright and pretty as you shed tears!) Some of my takeaways: " However I am today, it's okay to show up that way." "You don't have to be whole for your story to matter." (!!) When you spoke of how Temple Grandin was so gracious to everyone and said it was a real "learning opportunity"...I love that phrase. "Inspirational" seems cliche and annoys me as it feels as if it means I HAVE to do something with those feelings. But "learning opportunity" is lovely and allows me to choose! Near the end you say "Barb, you're amazing." I know you were speaking to Barb Cook, but when I first heard it my mind processed it as to ME. (Also "Barb") That was so powerful and uplifting.
Hoping you can rest up and process what you've been through!

And today i am so moved and so .... ( no word...) to feel i have a community all over the world.... and I realise that I am not dysfunctional... I am proud to be one human being of this community. With humility and love, and with an energy which help in worst moments... now I want to live... and feel responsable to be really who I am... and to be respected... for all who can't speak....all the invisibles....all who don't know... all who hide... Thank you for all people who are part of that and help so much... Thank you so much Taylor for all what you do and share, it help all over the world thanks to internet...❤🧡💛💚💙💜

Dear precious Taylor, everyone started somewhere - even Dr Grandin. I’m sure you would say to others that “length of service” (for wont of an appropriate word) doesn’t equate to value or impact, both of which you have had and are having in bucketloads. Each person has a different appeal and therefore reaches different people and of all the RUclipsrs and autism advocates I relate best to you. I’m certain this heavy dose of imposter syndrome will pass as you find your place and are supported in recognising your worth and the effect you are having each and every day through your channel and work. You are amazing and you absolutely deserved your place alongside Dr Grandin. Much love as you recuperate 💜

Thanks for sharing, and for the insights, and for adding beautiful meaning to my week. Sending a hug around the world ✨ ps great T-shirt!

I've experienced this type of thing this past year too for the first time, not related to autism but in my professional/passion niche, which is just as niche & weird to outsiders as autism (and more of us are autistic than we think lol) - i know exactly what you mean, it's surreal, like out of body experience surreal & it's something I now understand I need punctuating my year semi regularly. I never related to having your battery "filled up" by anything social but now I understand we just need to find the right kind of people to make that happen - it's just harder for us to find.

10 minutes in and having to pause the video to comment. What I’m hearing is that you felt SEEN, but what’s coming through for me is that it’s as if the missing of not being diagnosed as a child leaves a void, yet the space that was held for you is how it could have been to have felt recognized & known as an autistic person for your entire life.

“In an ideal world the scientist should find a method to prevent the most severe forms of autism but allow milder forms to survive.” Temple Grandin. That quote is in her book “Thinking in Pictures” on page 122. I appreciate all she has accomplished for the autistic community. That quote, however, is pro-eugenics and she needs to step away from that stance. It’s outdated thinking and is promoting discrimination against autistics because it supports functioning and ableist labels. On a side note…thank you for your channel and all you do for our community. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

Thank you. I was scrolling through and wondering why no one else seems aware/was acknowledging her problematic views that I can’t find anything about her declaring she doesn’t believe that stuff anymore.
There’s room to appreciate the positive changes she’s brought about without putting her on a pedestal and ignoring the glaring flaws.
I’m really happy for Taylor’s successes and growth, not trying to take away from that at all. Autistic joy is the best 😇
I can’t help my Autistic focus causing tunnel vision about Grandin, though.

25:13 I know Temple was diagnosed as a child, and to have received a childhood diagnosis as a female of her generation, I would assume she has a fairly low masking profile. Plus, people tend to learn to case less of what others think of them as they age, so I'd imagine she burns a lot less energy in social situations than a younger, higher masking type (similar considerations apply to males that fit the classic Aspergers stereotype: a decent chunk of us are actually quite extroverted. I have trouble engaging socially out of general awkwardness, but I almost never exhaust myself socially.

Don't beat yourself up for going to your room to recover between sessions. It's a mark of wisdom to know what load you can carry. ❤ Better to know your limits, than meltdown or shut down on stage. 😊

I'm looking to the Autfest... First a comment, how is it possible to say that autistic poeple have no empathy?, like here with you, when a person fall appart, I fall appart to, because I can related myself to her... And, after... Your work, and the one of each autistic personn committed to do that, is sooooooooooooo précious. We can know that we really have a tribe.... and we can accelereted our own understanding, being stronger, wiser, more in peace, more confident. I 'm crying even when they don't... the stories are so authentic.

I think the video and the Autfest experience can be sufficiently summarized by Taylor's exclamation (complete with jazz 🤗hands) at 2:03. I would've loved to have been at the event in person.

As a literary guy, I'm trying to think about the cactus pen -- such a humble object, maybe even silly to some people, and how it comes to represent a universe of experience, some kind of transformation -- ideas, ideas. We can work out how to split the revenue later. 😉 PS - when you get back to the support group in August, I'll be looking for your halo. 😉

I have seen Temple Grandin once in person at Georgia State University (GSU) Atlanta Campus brought in by the GSU Law school at the time. As I have gotten older is I don't have the same believe as Temple Grandin when it comes to early intervention, so believes children getting early intervention for autism need 40 hours of ABA therapy ect... especially when some of the newer studies state that sometimes more therapy is better for autistic children, but instead these newer studies instead recommend that autistic children instead get the correct amount of therapies they need per a week and no more than that whether it be less than, equal to or more than 40 hours a week. I am just glad as an autistic woman without intellectual disabilities diagnosed with I was a child and have been diagnosed with four other disability diagnosis outside of my autism without intellectual disabilities as an adult to never have gotten any ABA therapy as an autistic child and before I graduated high school. I also don't like functional behavioral assessments done on me, because some of my autism meltdowns at the apartment are because of how my parents react sometimes they ignore what I say and/or they don't get me the help I need in a timely matter for example. I forgot to mention when it comes to "Temple Grandin's different autism learning styles" she never ever lists the read/write learning style in any of the books about autism and the conferences/talks about autism at all. With the read/write learning style as an autistic woman without intellectual disabilities and four other diagnosed disabilities outside of my autism without intellectual disabilities needs to have access to loads of written instructions sometimes with charts, graphs, images, photos and/or screenshots.
