I bought an Alfa Romeo Tonale Sprint model PHEV ( the base model, not the dolled up, expensive Veloce model, which is more readily more available, as for every Sprint model Alfa imported, they imported 9 Veloces ) almost a year ago. I was the first one to buy one in Canada, and basically bought it off the truck. I paid less then MSRP, and got it less then what a Ford Escape PHEV ( which at the time had a dealer mark up of $3,500, and add ons like $3,500 for Ford's Blue Cruise ) was going for, and where a RAV4 Prime ( basically the same price without add ons ) was ( and still is ) unavailable, and a 2 year old used Prime was selling for $14,000 more then my out the door price. Other then 9 recalls ( 2 for decals that did not have metric or French on them, that I did myself, 3 for checking high voltage connections were tight, no parts needed, 1 to replace a switch, and 3 for software updates, because where I live the vehicle would not update itself ) I have had zero problems with it, everything is operating above my expectations, and I am getting better electrical range and gas mileage then stated on the Vehicle MSRP sheet. It handles great, looks much nicer then its competition ( I compared the Sprint model against the Escape and Prime, where most reviewers, etc., compare the Veloce model that they are given by the dealers against the BMW X1 or Mercedes GLA, etc. which to me is not a fair comparison, especially a PHEV to a non PVEV ). It is not perfect, just like every vehicle in certain aspects, but I love it, love driving it, glad I bought it rather then any of the half dozen or so other PHEVS I test drove, and I would buy it again. And, it fits nicely in my garage.
All new vehicles have there problems, and mine did too, but the dealership I bought mine from, bent over backwards to accommodate me with the recalls, offered me a loaner while my vehicle was being serviced, and Alfa has resolved every issue with my vehicle, some well documented. I cannot say I would have gotten the same treatment from any other manufacturer.
Maybe I am lucky with my vehicle, but my whole experience, from buying it through to service, driving, etc., could not have been simpler, easier, stress free, and satisfying.

Test drove one a few months back, comes well equipped in the Veloce model but the steering was much too light to enjoy driving it, felt no connection to the vehicle. Really wanted to love it 🤷‍♀I went with an audi A5 sportback instead which I Iove. Thanks for your review Andrea and Zack!

I absolutely love Alfa’s history. I revere many of their past models. But beyond those iconic wheels and that infamous V-shaped grill, two words come to mind… self-aggrandizement and pomposity. Both words typically reserved for describing someone/thing ‘clearly punching above it’s weight’. It seems to be trying too hard to be different… but it isn’t. Too bad. Thanks for the video.

I love the new Alpha high performance sedans, however I would not own one because I drive down to Virginia from Montreal, to take the Amtrak Auto Train to Orlando in the fall and back in the spring which is a 9 - 10 hour drive each way and would be afraid to drive it in the US because if it breaks down, then good luck finding a dealer and even if you do you the parts may not be in stock. This vehicle's turning radius is bad and the interior is dated. The interior is stark and uninspiring while the paddles are ugly and the infotainment system is sub par. We recently drove our recent model fully loaded BMW X1 to Hendersonville, NC for a wedding which according to both the navigation in our X1 and Google Maps indicated that this was a 16 hour drive (at speed limits) along the i81 from Thousand Islands, Canada and both were completely wrong. It took us 2 days and over 20 hours of driving each way. We drove over 4,000 kms in 1 week and a total of about 45 total hours, the Bimmer was quiet, comfortable and got great gas mileage. Plus each fill up was substantially less than it is in Canada. Foot note: The i81 going south to North Carolina is the worst highway I have ever driven on in my life south of NY state in to Pennsylvania; It was full of huge semis and pick up trucks and in a lot of cases 2 /40 footers or 2 /53 footers hooked up together. The truckers follow each other very closely almost tail gating each other. The trucks change lanes at the same time as they signal which forces a driver to go from 75 MPH to 55 MPH; this is very nerve racking and I can only say, "Thank God" we had nice weather. White knuckle driving for over 12 hours on the second day! I was surprises that there weren't more accidents because of the way these truckers drive and surprisingly there was not a lot of construction and what little there was didn't cause much delays. You need a comfortable vehicle if you're planning on driving long distances and X1s are just that. So is the Porsche Macan which is one of my favorites vehicles.

Perhaps these enlighten individuals are not aware of the JD Power rating of the current Alfa lineup as 3rd best of all marques for reliability Also, the Tonale came first, the Hornet came afterwards. Most people who buy an Alfa rate driving dynamics most important, not a rolling lazy Boy. I have driven both the Tonale and Hornet, very little difference. I thought your review was a little too positive on the vehicle for its price point and the comparisons at the end were the next class up. The Tonale while claiming to be a small luxury SUV it is not, perhaps a premium suv as it is a little better than mainstream. The handling falls well short, its speed is just average, and the interior quality is below all the Comparisions you mentioned. The interior road noise is extensively louder than almost every car I have driven. The PHEV system is nice to have, but the truly terrible gas mileage is well below expectations; many ICE SUV's will provide better mileage. If a buyer has a commute, they are better off buying something else. Personally, I would compare the Tonale/Hornet to Volvo xc40 it is an ICE vehicle but gets better gas mileage, if you must have a PHEV then a Volvo S60 which is better significantly in every category over the Tonale for the same price. A Ford Escape PHEV, much better EV range and gas milage, but with less handling and interior quality for a much cheaper price. Last a Rav4 prime, it is faster, more electric range, significantly better gas mileage, cheaper and comparable interior quality. Personally, I would buy the Volvo S60 T8 for the same price, it is a significantly better vehicle.

Why is it that you never show the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV as an option? My Outlander gets at the least 63 km (38 miles) of electric range, and it costs only $58000 in Canada. I've owned it since May '23 and I've only filled the gas tank four times, including a 2000 km driving holiday in July. It's a slow charger, yes, but it's worth the wait in my opinion. Very pleased!

Maybe a sane person who needs a usable back seat. I had a loaner 2023 Macan for the past two days. With the driver seat adjusted for my normally proportioned 6-foot body (and I sit further forward than most people), I couldn't sit behind the driver seat without my knees uncomfortably pressed into the driver seat back. Otherwise it was a decent vehicle - handled very nicely and was well equipped for a loaner with air suspension, panoramic roof and lots of minor options. My wife liked the Macan's low ride height a lot. She's only 4' 10" and has great difficulty getting into our Cayenne even when its air suspension is lowered all the way.

No, the Dodge is an Alfa product, sort of. They just slapped the dodge badge on a stripped down Alfa.

Definitely better to lease this vehicle and walk away at the end of the lease.
