    I am an interior designer with a degree and with over 40 years experience. Here is my take: You did a great job of making a peaceful and gracious master bedroom. It is fresh and inviting. Your goal was achieved and I hope you enjoy the finished product considering how hard you worked. I saw that spilled gallon of paint and cringed. I did the same thing once upon a time. I used cat litter to soak it up and then started the serious clean with a steam cleaner. I love tuning in to get inspiration on my own organization from you.

    Dawn, the brown chairs look great in my opinion. You’ve got brown tones in your wood doors, and the chairs give a warm softness to the room and I think that’s lovely with the cool grey tones. You definitely achieved calm and serene!

    I'll never forget (and 60 years have passed), my mother saving and saving to purchase her first brand new area rug for our living room. She was soooo proud on the day she unfurled it!!! Day two:
    I came through the front door toting (2) one gallon glass jugs of milk, and managed to break them as I came through .... all over the 9x14 rug. Broken glass bits, sour milk (south Florida heat), and many years of recrimination. 😱
    In the big picture, we all lived, and life went on. Hug your girl, and let her know that we all have accidents, and are still loved!

    I actually like the brown chairs. I think they help the room feel more warm. I have grey in my house too, but I like to add wood accents and I have brown couches. I think it warms up the space a lot. I feel like without those accents, grey is a very cold color and can make a space feel less like home. Also, I relate to not wanting to spend a lot of money. That is something I struggle with too!

      @DD-xf1yd 3 года назад +7

      I totally agree with you.
      I've always liked the color grey, but it does have a coldness to it. Browns, beiges, and other earth tones
      can really bring back some warmth.

    • @gailremp8389
      @gailremp8389 3 года назад

      Remember the gray can be a cold color. But there are certain shadings of gray that can be very warm. It's like if you're not sure what gray color go to Home Depot if that's your thing, get tons of different colors of gray and when you lay them out you'll see which will give you comfort. Some look better with greens. Some look better with cream. And some look better with blues.

    Either the camera makes things look exponentially better than in person or you hold yourself to wayyyy to high of a standard. This room is INCREDIBLE. It absolutely glows and just wow. I adore the style of the blanket ladder, the chairs look really trendy and the balance of the way you put everything together is so appealing. And I literally couldn’t see the paint stain the last time you panned over it. Like I said maybe the flaws are clearer in person but man your room and ability to make it beautiful are incredible. So much fun to watch!!

    I have an interior architecture degree and I would just like to say you did a great job. The brown chairs seem eh on their own and old style. Except when paired with the room, they're great. With lighter chairs you would have created a sterile environment, which is exactly the opposite of you. You live in your home. The brown chairs will allow you to use them, rather than worry about keeping them clean (just like how you felt protective over norwex-even though I love norwex). The brown brings warmth and neutrality. I hope you've come to see this already and enjoy them.

    I always mix greys and browns throughout my house. I find that feels more like how colours are in natural. Both warm and cool. And I love those chairs. I also love the shrug on worrying about the carpet. My dad always said it was the first scratch on a car was the hardest to handle but after that you felt like you could relax. Your room is perfectly ready to relax in. :)

    Great job Dawn! You made the grandma chairs look so stylish 😁 My dad was a professional painting contractor. If you ever have a paint spill again, water and a shop vac is all you need. Keep dumping more water on and sucking it up until it’s clean and put a fan on it to dry it out. I’ve seen this method work with a five gallon bucket of paint that got knocked over.

    Dawn, you handled the spilled paint episode with so much poise and grace. I'm sure Adeline was devastated when she accidentally knocked over the paint. It's hard enough being a tween girl without having something like that happen. I felt bad for her. Your room turned out beautifully, and the comfy chairs (with pillows) are the perfect touch! I like the idea that several people have suggested by camouflaging the outside door with a curtain and possibly painting it.

    Swap out the dark color on the entry door to something much lighter like to match the other doors in the room or paint it gray. It sticks out like a sore thumb. I think that alone would make a huge difference to the room. That dark color draws your eye there first. Easy fix.

The chairs look great and you DESERVE to buy them, you're a hard working couple! The room is awesome, I hope you enjoy your sanctuary!

    I LOVE the brown chairs! They add warmth to the space and the way you placed them in front of the window... if it were me, I'd be sitting there rocking and swiveling and enjoying the view as much as I could! I also loved the bright pop of green in the plant between the chairs. Super inviting space to sit. You were a champ about the paint spill. Such a great example of going with the flow and keeping things in perspective. The whole space is a beautiful makeover and you guys deserve a peaceful room for yourselves. Enjoy!

      You could tell that it drained Dawn’s excitement about decorating the space. Her happiness erosion was in full swing after that paint spill. You could tell it had leeched into her feelings about the chairs and ladder. I hope as time passes and the accident on the carpet is less fresh in her mind that she will begin to love what she created a bit more ❤️

      @@natalieeubank4533 ...well...some of us have different experiences. I do not have to have the help of little tiny kids to get paint everywhere. I can take my time, be as careful as possible, and very meticulous...but I'm not the most coordinated individual. If there are no kids at all in my house, I'm still not laying carpet before I paint!

    I like it. It's nice to wake up facing a nice clean and clear space. That's the biggest minimalist change I made to my house, to keep the view from my bed clutter free so that I could wake feeling peaceful. It's nice to have a grown-up space in your home so don't feel the guilt. Also the chairs are good solid grown up pieces, but I feel you on the guilt of buying brand new, when you're not used to that it doesn't feel right. My heart was in my throat when I saw the paint spill! At least you'd planned for the chairs to go there. You'll have to show us how well it cleaned up when it dried.

    Looks great, Dawn. TOM ! LIGHT SWITCH solution - There are remote switches available! You change out the original switch to one with a receiver in it, and you mount another switch by the new door that communicates with the receiver switch - there is no new wiring involved! and both switches would operate the light.

    Your bedroom looks lovely, relaxing and a place of peace with calm. The colors lend to that feeling and I think the chairs are perfect for the room. Not sure why you feel uncomfortable with the color, I think it is perfect and at times when you might want to switch up pillows seasonally or whatever .......the colors of the chairs are perfect as they are not busy and won't conflict with changing up colors or throws from time to time. I think you did an excellent purchase. Don't feel guilty for the room you use or the things you get for yourself and husband as you raise your children or ever for that matter. You both work hard, our children almost never go without what they need growing up and it is very appropriate for spouses to do for each other. Often times it 's the only splurge we do for ourselves for years when raising our families and helping every one we can. You did an excellent job and I absolutely love what you did for the blanket ladder......absolutely darling and the colors are perfect. It is a very peaceful and calm/relaxing get away with no big distractions. Beautiful view out the windows!!! Love it!
    Blessings

    Love the room and quiet space for you guys! Many years ago my toddler knocked over a cool whip container of paint in a room I was trimming. At first despair set in but then I immediately used our carpet steam cleaner and changed out the water over and over. Thankfully it all came out but I think I was lucky because I started before it had a chance to dry. Love how you tell a story on your videos and taking us along .
