Come with me as I show you around a little-known gem of a church and visit the church of St Faith in Kelstern in Lincolnshire on a remote hillside in the Lincolnshire Wolds. A church that is now very little used, it contains some fascinating monuments, stained glass and other furnishings and that tell the story of peoples' life and of heart-break and success.

A beautiful little church. Thank you. Even my local, most magnificent grade 1 listed Crowland Abbey isn’t faring too well right now. The vicar has just retired, having extended his tenure more than once. We now have no resident vicar. Apparently Lincolnshire has more than it’s fair share of grade 1 churches, but not enough clergy to go round. Perhaps Rome could have it back. Tiny churches are just as valuable as ex monasteries, just different. I hope the one in this video isn’t lost to us, whether we believe or not. These buildings are part of our history.

Ive been there and served Mass at this church ( when Binbrook was in interregnum) and Father Edward MNartin was PP of St Augustine of Hippo and he was looking after the Binbrook group of parishes. Congregation of 2 plus Father Edward and Myself. One was one of the churchwardens and the other was a member of our congregation who hadn't been able to attend St Augustines in the morning due to work issues. I believe that under the new Lincoln Diocesan arrangements, this will become a festival Church with very few regular services ( Say Christmas and Easter) but will be available for occasional services. It was a bit of hike across a field to get to it. The church was very damp and dirty as I remember it

Very easy to see the benches and the windows on the sunny side. Not being familiar with the churches, when you say that you fear for the church’s future, what will happen? Will these churches and graveyards just be left to ruin? Or will the church be demolished, and the stained glass destroyed? In the US, older churches are usually demolished and burials exhumed and relocated. Your churches seem so much more important to save due to the age and history.

There is a lot of medieval glass surviving in churches - though this has scraps. Very little was actually removed during the Reformation, primarily due to the cost of replacing it. A lot of medieval glass disappeared in the 18th century when there was a rage for clear glass and glass was cheaper.
