After spending 3 weeks in Alaska and Canada on a cruise, I now understand why you guys say the Pacific NW is the best cruising grounds. I completely agree. There is no more beautiful place. You guys should cruise up to SE Alaska at some point.
We love Dent. The Rapids Grill is an incredible meal even for a non-foodie like me. You need reservations months in advance. You need that long to save up for it also.

great video, i actually put up the totem pole at arron rapids when it fell on me and broke my back. air lifted to vancouver, 2 years to recover. . . very special to see it after al l these years..
If these rapids are so dangerous why are the passengers not wearing life jackets, thats pretty dangerous.

My buddy was a fish guide up there and I spent a week with them, lots of fun fishing in the whirlpools and hooking up to a nice chinook. Thanks for sharing this, brings back good memories.

Born and raised on Vancouver island. This is my stomping grounds. Do let this video encourage you to come here. There really is nothing to see here. It’s not pretty at all. Actually quite bland. And most of it’s closed for cleaning. Perhaps go elsewhere. 😂
The landscape is gorgeous and very beautiful. It’s the people that are boring. In this part of Canada, the locals are called cheese heads and their favorite pastime is drinking beer. They’re not very good with conversation and they’re always asking to borrow your money but as far as a beautiful country, you couldn’t see anything more exciting.just stay the panhandlers and you’ll do fine

I love Nordhavens, but if I had the money to buy a big boat I would probably be inclined to go with a Fleming because they can go fast if needed when you get into a sketchy situation .
It has been 12 years since setting off to Alaska in August and timid at tackling Seymour Narrows and thinking diverting to Dent and Yaculta would be better for our new to us sailing vessel? Overnighted at the Govt docks on Stuart. Your videos certainly are stirring a desire to return. Thanks for your time and efforts to share this very special area of South Coast BC. Currently in Hawaii.

WOW! Shawn got to fly in the right seat! I have done that several times in B-17s and B-25! I have also viewed the whirlpool near Niagara Falls. Interesting to see this one from so close. Can't imagine what this might have been like for Capt Cook or Vancouver in a sailing vessel!

Been a few years since I was there but it has not changed, Dent Island Lodge is a wonderful place to spend a night or two!

In the stillness of dawn, they stood at the edge of the world, the horizon stretching endlessly before them. Each breath filled with the crisp air of possibility, they felt the weight of chains dissolve. Freedom, like the vibrant colors of the rising Sun, painted their heart with hope. In that moment, they realized that truly see freedom was to embrace the boundless potential within themselves, a reflection of the vast sky above.
I used to work in Menzies Bay near Campbell River. I had my own boat and would fish in Seymour Narrows when it was safe to. Nice currents and whirl pools during the peak flows. Watched the Alaska bound ferry go through on a flood tide. They created standing waves that looked like they were stationary. And very tall. Would not have wanted to go anywhere near them in a small boat. The waves lasted for about 10 minutes.
You have to shake your head if you’re going to order steak at a fishing lodge and expect it to be anything more than a 3 out of 5. Why would you pass on halibut ( the steak of the sea) from an upscale fishing lodge?
That’s what I (E) thought too !

If you guys ever end up visiting Niagara Falls, they also have a Jet Boat tour on the Niagara River gorge. I highly recommend it ! Try and get in one of the front 4 rows :)

Another beautifully editing posting kids! Those tidal changes looked ver6 scary, especially IF your boat is under powered. As for that jet boat ride, yikes! That captain knew exactly when and how much throttle was needed, obviously not his first time at the helm! One more adventure to check off of our list!

'Devils Hole' (actually on the chart) still gives me the willies when I go through it. Dropped 3' all of a sudden in an aerated portion in my 24' well powered express cruiser once.
Loved the latest video at Dent. Have you ever measured the decibels in the pilot house at cruising speed? If so, is it much different than in the sleeping area on over-nighters?
Those tides are crazy!! We're river runners and that looked like you were on a river not the ocean. How long does each tide last with those kind of flows?
