I just calibrated my Dosy to a Bird. It works good for most purposes. When you hook any meter up to your antenna you are going to see different power reading to it from reflected standing wave. You have to calibrate to good 50 ohm dummy load to. Best would be to calibrate a meter to known calibrated radio output to you antenna to get correct reading on your meter.
This Dosy looks like the old Paradynamics PDC-600 meter. I had a PDC-600 and a PDC-700 back around 1991 and really loved them but I especially liked the PDC-700 with that huge single meter.
Thanks for that very informative post Screwdriver! I own 7 different meters and they each show 7 different readings. The main thing that I look for is changes in the readings . If my Dosy showed it was DK'ing 10 Watts today and showed 3 tomorrow I would def know something was happening!
Supposedly, per the instructions, one has to recalibrate meter every time the wattage selection is changed. You jumped right to 1000 from 100 without adjustments.
Not quite a valid test. Were you using a resistive RF termination (Industry standard) for RF measurement? Birds tend to have better accuracy looking into reactive loads (antenna) where as the cheap shit goes bonkers. Being a shop you know the calibration of Bird slugs differ greatly. So for an accurate review, how about showing the 43 & slug are accurate with fresh cert tags?
those meters they are junk, they are made for hobbies not for professional work like fluke, b&k ,amprobe, simpson ,etc, etc those are made for a professional person .

Thank you. I don't know if DOSY IS PEEP readings but I've got exactly same meter and always thought it was RMS READINGS. LATE REPLY SORRY.
Thanks for the info, always helps to have some real, unfiltered knowledge 👍
Well said I agree 100% and describe it that same way to many people.

are dosy worth buying or should i get a bird meter
Very good comparison and the Dosy does well for it's price range. There are cheaper meters and more expensive.
Its not a bad tool. It is what it is. Excellent comparison.
This proves your bird has been hacked
I do have an MFJ meter that does keep the pep. That's the meter i trust and use the most when tuning radios....
Why did you remove the tech library coax calculator from the website?

I see you have three bird meters hooked up in series, could you explain what each one does? And why is it necessary to have three?
Can You Show/Compare The Dosy TC 4002 PSW Against The Bird RMS + Peak Reading?
wow hard to believe the dosy was LESS watts than the bird thats a first for me normally those cb meters are very generous.
what if i calibrate it to the bird or can it be done
How is the swr as far as accuracy goes on the dosy ? Thanks in advance .
Can you not go in side the dost Meyers and calibrate them to match the bird meters.?
Only the average. They read PEP differently and you would have to modify the circuit to get it closer on PEP.
Is there a consumer grade watt meter that is at least 10% accurate ? I am looking at buying a swr meter , any tips.
I like this one best: bellscb.com/products/testequipment/Daiwa/Daiwa_CN-901HP3.htm
Anything else besides a bird that will give a true peak reading?
Not every CBer can afford or want a Bird meter. Myself i dont like Bird meters.
I think the only advantage of a Bird 43 meter is that if you drop it down the stairs it will most likely still work !. It does not measure PEP.
isn't the point of a bird meter to read true RMS?
THE DOSEY 3001 IS A RMS METER, DOSEY DOES MAKE PEP METERS. THEY WOULD MAKE A BETTER COMPARISON.
Your reading the wrong meter for PEP. you should have read the meter to the right that said modulation.
Peak means nothing on AM. Average does! Keep the peak for SSB!
You always trust the meter showing the most watts. Common sense...
👁🔥👁
you will not see the peak. you can calibrate the dead key, but without electronics, you will not get the right peak.
Dosey meters ate garbage. Every one ive ever had was cheaply put together and no where near accurate.

The bird is a commercial grade meter as well for RF.
