This reminds me of the old joke where an elderly wife heard on the radio about a car going in the wrong direction on the highway, and knowing her husband was in that general area, called him, warning him of the traffic problem. He responded, "ONE CAR? THERE ARE HUNDREDS GOING THE WRONG WAY!"

@@JohnBeerschotenwould you want to stop him? how? you have just seconds to see the situation... would you risk crashing your car, and risk the drivers life?

@@08_crown_vic there were other emrgencies already on progress. Municipal police departments don´t have thousands of LEOs on the get-go. The camera men probably had already contacted the Dispatch and probably was giving locations but they couldn´t anything further.
As a former cop I can’t imagine the police being too tied up to respond to this. Even with staffing issues this is a serious issue. Good job to the citizens who risked themselves to stop it.
They were probably busy with a guy filming them cause people who record the police are dangerous and a threat to cops. They can't beat on handcuffed citizens if someone is filming
Usually there is 5-7 cops showing up to a parking lot when a woman is sleeping in a car, but someone driving for 20 minutes down a wrong way is not dangerous???
I absolutely LOVE the fact that you didn't talk over the video unnecessarily, and just let us follow what was going on ourselves. I hate those videos where someone is telling what I can already see as if I'm a 5 year-old, so this was a breath of fresh air - thank you!
OMG I also hate that forced narration. It's getting worse every day, now every video you watch has "extra narration" AFTER the video is supposed to end, where a narrator comes on with a fully separate video addition and describes how "terrible" that was or how we should all feel after watching it. I absolutely cannot stand it. We're not invalids, we KNOW what we just watched!
In the beginning of the video they said all the cops were already responding to other things. They can't just up and leave the scene of a crime to go to another one.
Everyone thinks their emergency is the most important in the heat of the moment. I’ve been a dispatcher for many years and have yet to convince any callers otherwise. Seriously, there could be a nuclear bomb threat in the middle of town, but customers at McDonalds will demand I immediately send all units to settle a disturbance over a McRib combo.
Although dispatch apparently said it might be a cardiac related issue, I would put money on the fact that it was instead a diabetic related issue. Several years ago I actually implemented a civilian traffic stop because an elderly gentleman whose blood sugar had gone way out of control was all over the place, in the wrong lanes, and had no idea he was doing anything wrong. When I finally got him stopped by stopping in front of him, it was quite evident that he had no clue where he was or what was happening. Fortunately, just like this event, no one was hurt, and everything got cleared up.
I agree with you, my brother has type 1 diabetes. He hasn't started driving yet but when he does he's required to check his sugar before driving to make sure it's in the required range, and not heading out of it.
Yes, that sounds more like it. I've known more than one diabetic go into insulin shock without warning and act drunk and belligerent without realizing there was anything wrong.
I'm reminded of a time I called 911 on an elderly driver with a medical issue. What drew my attention as I walked to university was that she drove onto the walking path and I actually had to move into the bushes to avoid getting hit. Then she stopped and was looking around with this really dazed expression on her face. I got her license plate and asked her if she was ok, she didn't respond. I knocked on her window, she looked at me and looked away, again no response. Then she looked like she was thinking of driving again so that was when I backed off and called 911 because pedestrian loses a fight with a car. I made it clear nI thought it was most likely a medical issue because she reminded me of my elderly relatives when they got low blood sugar or were sundowning. I gave a description of her vehicle and as she drove off a play by play of where she was going and what she did until I couldn't see her anymore (she hit a water fountain, knocked her mirror off at a phone pole, and nearly had a head on all in the space of about 30 seconds). A police officer called me back later and explained it was a medical issue and that they weren't planning to press charges and asked if I was ok with that since she almost hit me. I absolutely was, there's nothing criminal about having a medical crisis, IMO.
I swear if you're speeding a lot they'll see you on the cams and before you know it there will be a trooper. I've had it happen a few times when I start swerving in-between traffic on my Hayabusa going over 100.
That was mighty awesome teamwork among people who didn't know each other, but who had the intelligence to see that something was really wrong and took action to help stop a motorist who couldn't stop on their own. Kudos to all of you, you were magnificent!
Yeah they could stop in their own: all they would need to do is just take their foot off the acceleration pedal and then car would eventually come to a stop. That simple
Technically the person having the heart attack hit the driver in the Cherokee since he was going the right way… so the insurance company will go after the guy with the heart attack full force….
It's worrying that so few people even noticed the oncoming vehicle until it was right upon them. They didn't notice the traffic ahead behaving erratically, and the number of people who just carried on without slowing or try warning vehicles behind. Thankfully there were a couple of intelligent, sensible people who tried to flag down the driver and some that had the sense to put on their hazard warning lights, alert other drivers and bring the speed of traffic down. Well done to them and the driver who finally stopped it.
@@tealnoise They did though....? Except for the one guy, they all got out of the way in time and made evasive and safe maneuvers. I don't think you realize, this could've been way worse than it turned out to be.
It’s called in-attentional blindness. While driving you are constantly looking at signs, mirrors and other cues that you look for everyday. They probably all saw the car and their brain just couldn’t register the fact a car was driving right at them. This is the reason so many drivers appeared to avoid a collision at the last moment.
The traffic camera has a zoom lens that makes it look like the cars were closer together than they actually were. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out but then again maybe it does based on your comment and many others like yours. SMH
With over 38 years in the fire service, this ranks in the top 3 efforts I have seen when the public acted to stop a potential tragedy! Everyone that helped deserves official recognition for going above and beyond the call! There are still good people in this country and this proves it!

And if they were completely passed out, why would they not stop driving because their foot would be loose and wouldn't be pressing on the gas?! And finally, how in the world were they able to SEE and NAVIGATE navigate this?!? 9:55 And many many curves on the freeway…? Something is smelling really fishy here. I’m incredibly impressed with the citizens that brought this to an end. My grandpa always used to tell me there is two ways to do things. The right way and the wrong way. He continued that doing things the wrong way will usually seem easy and provide the least resistance. While doing the right thing will prove difficult. The only way we can make difficult things easier is by practicing and doing them with frequency. This Jeep driver showed he has made difficult decisions his whole life. Kudos
Agree. totally agree this man faced the difficulties of life, whilst others shied away. He was in total control and knew what to do, was unflinching. As for a heart attack, that is the lamest excuse for what happened eve. The driver was sustaining a heart attack for all that time, and was not knocked even away from his controls by the bangs. D.U.I
@@dougaldouglas8842 It doesn't mean you sustained the heart attack for that long. You do realize that after a heart attack mental impairment can occur right? You can lose vision, you can also lose your mind. Quite literally becoming a vegetable. Often, people who are in situations like this might arrive at the hospital and not recognize their loved ones ever again. Think of it like this. You're a computer and somehow 90% of your operating and data files were just deleted. The remaining data isn't even enough to feed yourself, just to stay on. It happens man. Don't always assume it's something malicious. The difference between you caring and not, could be life or death. It could be the difference between someone hugging his kids again or him being scared every time they hug him, because he has no idea what they are. Not who they are, but what they are. Are they monsters? Are they trying to hurt me? My grandfather almost walked himself to death in Queens, N.Y. he walked 12 miles, walked on to a highway and traveled a mile up the highway and somehow traveled back down. I like to think that someone stopped him and drove him off the highway. But they left him. It was already night time and he wasn't found until 2pm the next day in blistering 90 degree heat. He was missing from 6pm to 2pm. No food, no water and having a stroke. If someone had the decency to just ask. If someone had the decency to say "Something might be wrong." It's possibly my grandfather wouldn't have had to wear a diaper and a catheter for the next 10 years of his life. Someone caring sooner could've meant he wouldn't have become a vegetable. I figured it was medical as an RN it was telling. The car did slow down at times pulling over like they knew something wasn’t right. Probably as they lost oxygenation and began having arrhythmias it’s amazing they were able to even drive! I saw one other video where police pulled a medical emergency over for going very slow and swerving. The car took a while to pull over for police. They ended up penning it in like in this case. Only the police automatically assumed the driver was DUI. When in fact he was a brittle diabetic with blood sugar major problem which makes a person seem intoxicated if you don’t know the things to check. Police in that video unfortunately put the older man on the ground having their weapon drawn. When your blood sugar is that bad the person cannot think straight either. It wasn’t until the ambulance driver came and knew that diabetes could be the problem and checking his blood sugar which takes only a min or two saved this man. Don’t always assume they are DUI. Thanks to all of these citizens in your video for the great help in stopping this and getting help for this driver! Often times you might also see elderly dementia patients drive like this. @@rickyz1nine00kaw3 I’m so sorry for your loss. These days not only are lawsuits becoming more frequent against police for their abuse, but charges are being brought against them as well! There’s no excuse for that behavior. I understand police have to protect themselves against unruly possibly DUI/Angry people, but I wish they would take a second to observe as well for medical conditions! Dementia patients have very obvious signs that police should be aware of just as you stated. If they are not, maybe an ER physician can provide instruction on how to care for sick people while at the same time protecting themselves if needed. Sometimes dementia patients will take their prescribed medication wrong accidentally which might result in seizures or many other problems as well. Some patients have newly diagnosed minor dementia and other a more severe case and should not be driving. However, they do find ways to get keys in their homes and leave. This is very common for them to do. Elderly (and even young people who have hypermobile joint conditions) will also dislocate joints very easily resulting in surgery if the soft tissue in and around that joint is torn. If their spine is injured they could also end up with paralysis. Many elderly are on blood thinners which can cause major bleeding if they get a minor scrape or cut. It is so difficult for loved ones to manage their family member with dementia. I lost my mother to dementia as well. I feel for you, and your family. I’m sorry this didn’t look like a medical issue. The driver was mentally stable enough to maneuver around and away from things. If this person was indeed having a medical emergency they could have pulled over. They literally slowed down multiple times and speed back up so they were fully aware of what they were doing.
That one crash in beginning made me realize how quickly we overtake when someone is slowing down or stopping in front of us, without first trying to see why they stopped, we see it as a nuisance and immediately want to overtake. Taught me to be mindful going forward, could be a deer, kids or this.

Its sad it requires this for someone even like you to realize that. What really stands out is the poor observation skills of many drivers, switched off, on a one way road, thinking they are safe and with no expectation of pending disaster. Don't just focus on the rear end of the car in front ! Scan, constantly scan. Whilst a heart attack was bandied around as the cause, this may have caused hypoxia (lack of oxygen to vital organs) or maybe even a diabetic episode (which I consider more likely) because of its duration.

I don't know what's worse. The police failing to show up until it was over Or the fact that the Jeep will likely get a nice reward of paying for their own damages. Like, in situations like this at least the person who took action should be compensated for damages with no strings attached

@@boostedb1830 That's why people don't want to get involved. The insurance companies use this as an opportunity to deny a medical or damage claim because they look at the act as deliberate.
I was thinking it was drugs, but now i believe this
How can you make a civilian traffic stop? What is that?
I seen the original it was a diabetic issue the person didn’t know they had diabetes
I’ll tell one thing, your DOT has a phenomenal camera system!

I’m sorry this didn’t look like a medical issue. The driver was mentally stable enough to maneuver around and away from things. If this person was indeed having a medical emergency they could have pulled over. They literally slowed down multiple times and speed back up so they were fully aware of what they were doing.
My thoughts exactly
Several articles stated that it was a possible heart attack.
As a nurse of 42 years, you are incorrect
Low sugar levels posible
This is why I love the ASP officers. They protect the people.
That one crash in beginning made me realize how quickly we overtake when someone is slowing down or stopping in front of us, without first trying to see why they stopped, we see it as a nuisance and immediately want to overtake. Taught me to be mindful going forward, could be a deer, kids or this.
That's how I got hit crossing the road. Someone stopped for me, and the person behind them passed them on the right and hit me. Luckily it was a Rav 4 and it hit my pelvis, which is the strongest bone in your body. He was going 50 to 60 km but I only had a small fracture on my inferior pubis ramus. Found out years later that being hit at that speed has only a ten percent survival rate.
He went to turn left in the left turn lane, not to pass.
My friend was turning onto a side street and had to wait for pedestrians. The girl behind him got out of her car and smashed his window because he “wouldn’t get out of her way.” Trust the driver in front of you, they likely see something you can’t!!
Its sad it requires this for someone even like you to realize that. You clearly have empathy, but it should be obvious to people in general... there is a disturbing disconnect for people between cars and how dangerous it really is because we just force everyone to drive regardless of skill, age, health, etc so it feels so normal up until youre in a deadly accident yourself.
@@cherriberri8373 you put it perfectly, I got into a minor accident myself once but up until that point I assumed I was invincible and that crashes only happened on the news and movies. Ever since than I unlocked a 6th sense for hazardous situations in the road lol. It's not until something happens that we realize we are riding a multi ton machine through space at high speeds with just a thin metal sheet between us and other machines.
I hope this person is okay and I'm glad that no one got hurt.
This is ridiculous, to put him in 100 years of solitary confinement. Drive 10 miles and say you're sick, not sick, you're crazy
Either you have an entire army trying to stop one shocked poor guy, or there is no one, because 100 people are handcuffing one somewhere 🤣
Agreed, Situational Awareness all the time.
That was my 1st gut reaction is that the person driving that car was having a medical issue and didn't know what they were doing or what was going on. Thank goodness no one was seriously injured and bravo to the men & women who helped get this horrific situation to a resolution. I hope the person who was driving that car is ok as well.. they certainly did not mean to do that or intend to harm anyone!
The other possibility is undiagnosed dementia......
It was Brandon.
@@stansmith4054 now Brandon is going to try to ban internal combustion engines because of this xD

Human kind at its finest. We must become a neural network when people are in danger. The response here of the collective mind was simply amazing. Humanity must work this way.
In certain areas humanity is this way
Driver in the Jeep has my utmost respect!!!! Ur a true hero!!!! Fantastic way to bring that scary situation to a close.
I pray the driver in distress makes it🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽.
great job by everyone in this video, really....and the person willing to put themselves at risk while damaging their nice car to possibly save multiple lives was amazing
Lots of love to that Driver,Respect,Guys, pitty,no one else, thought of it,to bring it to a stop,Hope the driver, was ok,
God bless everyone that helped.

Huge hats off to the Jeep driver and the other people helping!
They have that many video cameras, that they can follow the car all the way? 😳
this is why i believe elderly people really.... REALLY needs to consider if they are safe on the road or not.... yes a medical emergency can technically happen to anyone but if you as a person knows you can have a serious medical emergency randomly that can potentially cause injury to both yourself and others... dont drive, please!
These events are very much the exception. It's like saying no one should ever get on a plane because it might randomly crash.
How do you know it was an elderly person? It didn't say anything about who was driving. I see lots of people everyday young old and in between that have no business driving and some that should not even be allowed outside.
the worlds longest controled heart attack 😂
That Jeep was the hero of the day there. Amazing teamwork to those Minnesotans involved.
This is the meaning of "Minnesota Nice." God bless the good people of Minnesota!
As a former civilian, I have 36 years of watching videos and commenting on them. I commend these brave souls who have stepped up to the challenge of bringing a resolute solution to a major problem. Well done!
A former civilian? After 36 years of watching and commenting on videos, you joined the military? Some start late - good on ya!
Since 1987? Which video-platform? RUclips wasn´t invented yet! And a former civilian? What are now? Driver of whites cars? 🤣

Seeing this kind of thing. People trying to help out and do what they can. Makes me proud of my fellow Minnesotans.
See there are good people in this world. I'm keeping my hat's all of those who helped that was an amazing job. And I hope the driver was okay
I hope there was a go fund me for the driver that risked damage to their car to stop him. Hero
It does go to show that there are some outstanding people out there, ready willing and able to step up when needed and not in a violent or aggressive way, bloody well done.
🎭💯💯
To that guy who with just a slight pit, brought the driver to a stop, I say thanks a ton. May God bless you every day of your wonderful life, in Jesus' Name. Thank you.
Watching this with the Benny Hill theme song on loop makes this extremely comedic 😂
Wow that was very, very incredible...
I would have never guessed it was a medical issue. Maybe the guy in the first truck went all the way back around and doubled back to stop that car... For the public to somehow work together and even realize it was something of this nature is incredible....
I don't know what's worse.
The police failing to show up until it was over
Or the fact that the Jeep will likely get a nice reward of paying for their own damages.
Like, in situations like this at least the person who took action should be compensated for damages with no strings attached
Agreed and even if his insurance covers it his rates will still go up.
Obviously the police not being there earlier is the much worse issue given the defund the police movement. That's what happens when you constantly vote blue.
@@boostedb1830 That's why people don't want to get involved. The insurance companies use this as an opportunity to deny a medical or damage claim because they look at the act as deliberate. They are so blinded by the fact that the Jeep driver probably saved someone else serious injury or possibly death & saved the possibility of thousands of dollars of more damage. All they see is saving a few bucks by denying any claims by the Jeep owner. That's where I'm different. If I see the opportunity to assist, I will. I have been threatened by bosses before, but those threats land on deaf ears. I have many times as an over the road truck driver stopped to help others out from many different dangerous situations. It's all good as I'm sure the Jeep driver slept pretty good that night knowing he just saved someone's life.
Well, they wanted a defunded police, they got a defunded police unable to respond in a few seconds.
@@nvelsen1975 do some research
God bless all the drivers who played a role to bring that dangerous situation to an end.
RIP to the front of that jeep. We'll remember your sacrifice. 😭
Best video ever - thank you so much for posting.
Great job at keeping your heads and reacting quickly and effectively. This could have been so much worse for everyone involved. I hope the driver was okay.
How does a heart attack make you drive like that?? Like surely you just stop the car?
I agree Lee - the terrible pains when having a heart attack would surely have one clutching their chest, therefore disabling the driving !
thats what i thought too. maybe driving assistant? some kind of "AI" that continues that ride?
Total bullshit...
It's the go-to get-out-of-jail excuse du jour.
A heart attack can cause disorientation , it also could be a stroke in which you lose brain function.
An old man got a call on his cell phone from his wife. "Honey," she said, "be careful driving home on the freeway tonight-there's a lunatic going the wrong way!"
"A lunatic?" said the old man. "There's hundreds of them!"
My daughter says Minnesota drivers are the most courteous and kind people she has evern seen.
It's so refreshing to see good thoughtful people among us. Hooray for each of you who took action.
Medical issue - yep, too much booze will do that to you. Seriously though, I am picking perhaps an issue around diabetes or an age related condition like dementia. That Jeep driver did a fantastic job. I feel they possibly had some law enforcement or traffic training because that was a great effort, even more so if it was their first time.
Stroked out from the poke?
He said dispatch audio suggested a heart attack, not drinking, diabetes or dementia
@@ohadmire3814 suggested. If it was a heart attack, why keep moving, and aiming purposely at other cars? This was not a heart attack
@@thishandleisnotavailable they swerved when they got close tp other cars, and they were probably confused and disoriented especially if they were in pain
I was right behind a massive 18 wheeler truck that lost control on the highway ended up flipping on its side and blocking all 4 lanes of traffic. I think 4 other vehicles crashed as well 1 or 2 of them very seriously. My mom being so close and willing to help went and climbed in to help the truck driver. He was incredibly drunk. I’d hope there were no casualties in the one vehicle, but that thing was really messed up and no one got out before the medics swarmed the scene. Drunk driving is the worst.
I wouldn't have guessed that. He seemed to be intentionally choosing to go the wrong way, and was obvious he was in a bad place. I've never had a heart attack but seems one would know there was a problem and park it asap.
Well done to the selfless drivers who put themselves in danger for the good of others!
That's what the world needs more of good people stepping up to do what right
Based on past videos of people doing the right thing vehicular wise, their insurance will deny them any compensation since it was voluntary damage.
I was about to reply the same thing. It’s sucks but that Good Samaritan who stopped the guy will have to get his car fixed on his own. Which is messed up. He most likely saved lives that day. But yet insurance will pay for a drunk driver who smashes things up!
@@briq4409 Let's just be clear that there was no "drunk driver" in this case and given that the person with the medical issue is known and almost certainly insured, it seems highly unlikely the good samaritan will be out of pocket.
@@briq4409 lol drunk drivers do not drive like this, that's for sure.
@@munehaus you’ve misread. I said the guy who hit the wrong way driver on purpose (the Jeep driver who stopped him from driving on) will not have his car fixed by his own insurance. They will not cover it as he intentionally did it to stop the wrong way driver. And the wrong way drivers insurance will probably deny it as well since he purposely hit the wrong way driver. But if it was a drunk driver smashing into other cars insurance would cover it. I didn’t say anyone in the video above was drunk driving.
I hope I'll be as brave and resourceful should I encounter something like this. Those citizens to the rescue are my heroes. I hope the driver is okay. I can't imagine what he/she was going through. So many lives were in peril. Thank God for this ending.🙏🏽😞❤️❤️
The person that stopped them.....EXCELLENT move.
I’ve never driven that far in Texas (city or small town) without passing a patrol car! This is insane! 😮
Unbelievable how long it took for a cop to get on the scene...that was an extremely slow response to a very dangerous situation.
they were held up- the police force isn't endless everywhere.
@@GoodCopium Dude. 10 miles, At what appears to be an average of 25-45mph, Tye amount of calls to come in?
Well they did vote to defund the police so they got what they voted for.
