I have been losing prime .. my water source is from my canal .. I changed the check valve at the canal.. then filled my system with water from my hose that I connected to my system.. I got it running but when my system shuts down it loses prime.. any thoughts on what it could be ? Maybe the check valve at the pump is stuck? Thank you and thanks for the videos
Excellent video. My well is a little different as it is Artesian. I have a flow valve on the discharge. I have the same Gould pump/motor assembly that you do. The video definitely gave me some ideas on how best to install. Thanks for making the video.
Nice vid. Couldn't a couple of unions have been used to make pump replacement more simple for the next person in the future? For instance one wouldn't need to cut any pipe to R and R a pump.
No I don't believe in pvc unions they leak it's much better just cut it out replace it with a coupling And besides it's always better to re pipe when you replace a pump. And that's based on 47 years of experience and thousands and thousands of pumps that I replaced.
I just installed the same pump - much nicer than the flotec I was replacing. Only problem I am having is the discharge fitting is leaking where the plastic threads into the cast iron housing. Any tips, or just use more teflon tape?
I just helped a neighbor install a 1.5HP self priming pump to draw his lake water for his sprinklers. The pump is located on the side of the house next to the sprinkler valves. We ran 150 feet of 1.5 inch pipe down to the lake and installed a check valve next to the well screen in the lake. The pump will not draw at all from the lake. I checked for clogs, air leaks, and even changed out the check valve. I primed the system and it still will not draw from the lake. What am I missing here?

Great job replacing that pump. Im having a problem with mine except a little different. The wiring that underground for the pump is in pvc but it keeps getting hot and tripping the breaker. What type of wiring should I use underground? Should it be in pvc or would that create a heat problem? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes you definitely want to run your wires in PVC conduit they must be at least a number 12 gauge and it cannot be too long of a distance either you need a 20 amp breaker to run that pump on 220vac
@@waterboysprinkler Wow quick reply thank you. The run is about 110ft its an older fla house so it goes from the pump to the breaker inside but like i said I used that white romex i thinks its called. Its usually seen inside new house construction in the walls for like outlets. Im just not sure if using that type of wire is the right dtuff or not causing the breaker to blow. The breakers are 2--110v making it 220v i guess. Could it be wired incorrectly when the pump company replaced the pump? Btw Im sorry for bothering you. Its just that you know what your doing and I trust what you have to say...Thanks alot
Ours is 16 years old and suddenly stopped rotating zones - ours looks like the configuration that you have here. We have 2 active zones- front and back yard and the other 2 are capped off. I have looked in the system and see no corrosion.
@@jrm163don’t let him see this comment. He’s “installed 37,000 pumps” so you should “stick to your day job” My pump needs to be winterized every year and part of that includes letting the check valve drain all prime so I would need to re-plumb every year if it weren’t for unions.
What do you think were stupid lets just work on the pump with the power on and get electrocuted We use something called a Meter an electrical tester Don't attempt the job if you don't have an electrical tester
4 years later...and it is still a valuable video. Thanks!
your welcome
I had mine with lake water and now I Installed mine with the house water!! Do you think is a good idea??
I have a similar set up but how would I connect a pump start relay and control timer to the system? Thanks
Hey friend where can i buy that primer pump?

Shut the valve off fitst then turn off pump. Upon restart turn pump on first thrn your valve.
I really appreciate the video you made it helped me tremendously
Thanks for watching I'm glad it was helpful any other questions let me know
What the purpose of the nipple pipe on the intake side vs the male adapter on the top??? Less glue joints??

I have solenoid valves that control the system. Should the pump be before or after the valves? Probably a stupid question. Thanks.
Before

what's the name of the thing you wear at the end of the video?

Very cool. Thank you for this instruction video.
Hi, did you turn the knob back once the pump was filled? When do you turn the switch back to automatic?
Hello, do you know where I can buy a hand priming pump as you used in your video, thank you
Thanks for the information you made look so easy
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for posting this video it helped me to do own sprinkler pump
Is there no pressure tank on this system? do you find it works well without a pressure tank?
yes
So called experts claim u need a pressure switch. I dont have one. That u need a pressure tank. I dont have one. So yes it works great.

Pumps don't like to 'suck' from a distance. They will push water much better, so pump near the source.
Experience stick to your regular job and hire a company that knows what to do

You can install a pump a mile away if you know what you're doing
Great job
You sure that's 1 1/2 pipe?

@@beachside1 some pumps you can run on 110 you just have to manually switch it inside the back of the pump is, you can check yours and see

Should I install a check valve if one is not already in place?
yes
Richard Levine there is already a foot/check valve. Do I need another on the surface? Thanks
davefromjax no 1 will work
Excellent video. Also thanks for the follow up phone call.
Does it matter which black or white wire goes to the 110
where i can find those black hose , the ones connect to the hand pump ... and what size are ? thank you
You met a awesome video keep up the good work
Installing unions would make changing it out a bit easier.
They CREATE bigger projects for themselves. In this case, next time they’ll need to re-pipe several pipes as there’ll be no pipe left for him to cut!

John McGill have you ever gotten an answer to you question about hand pump
Nataka wetar pump
Shut the power off from the Breaker or Disconnect first!
I already said that in my description to make sure the power is off and use a tester to confirm that power is off.

First thing you should do is cut power to it but ok

If you would have read my description you will see that I mentioned shut the power that's what I said in my description if you looked at that
