    This is great, thank you SO much for making these videos, it's 10:30 at night and we're caring for our sick, elderly parents/in-laws and their water pump just went out. If it weren't for your video, who knows what would've happened, things go on here during the night and we need to have water, a lot of water!! Thanks again, great in emergency situations! 👍😊

    you could also install a one-way check valve to ensure that water doesn't flow back out of your source line.

    Very useful video, I tried yesterday to prime an irrigation pump and failed... now i know why! Gradually opening up the ball valve and allowing a little back pressure to keep the pump from throwing all the water out initially is the key. Nice job!

    Had one this past weekend...pump was cycling every few minutes with no water running. Our pipes are below frost line into the basement, and this one had water entering the basement by the pipe entry between the slab and block. Ended up the 1-1/4 pipe had a leak in it just outside the wall. Was fortunate, as the wellhead is buried with a sealed casing. (Casing vent runs into the basement along with the pump piping)

    I seem to have a problem where I cannot get my suction line to hold the water before completely filling the lines and the pump. I am not sure if I have a foot valve but I do have a check valve above ground. After I finally get primed, everything seems to work fine. Do you happen to know why my suction line will not hold the water or do you know if I buy a pump priming pump and install it after the check valve if it will help me? And if so could you please send me a link to buy it.

    Use a 1/2hp jet pump set to 20 psi for irritation from a stream to 2 faucets 20 feet in separate directions. Ball valve is easiest way to prime. Stream foot sucker closes without draw so priming once per month only. Cleaning sediment out of pump housing is performed by closing faucet valves and opening ball valve until clear.

    Do you guys have any suggestions on how to quickly prime a centrifugal pump with a non-self priming liquid end? I have several that I maintain and even though I am dumping continuous water down the discharge side while not allowing any other water to go downstream it takes many attempts of shutting it off filling it all up turning it on and repeating the process probably 75 more times before it primes and stays primed until The power goes out and one of the timers on the other side of the property open up valves and drains the system to zero.

  • @envidjunkie
    @envidjunkie 5 лет назад +3

    Just a common beef with a common misconception about priming a pump: At 2:45 you start mentioning "to allow some backpressure...so that it doesnt quickly throw all the water out and lose prime" The line is in the water, so the pump isn't going to magically unpump all the water out of the line and lose prime... the intake is submerged, the line (assumedly) isn't letting air into the line, so applying "backpressure" does zero for you. In fact, it actually retards the pumps' ability to evacuate air from the suction line, so there's no point in creating "backpressure".

    Does having a pressure tank and a jet pump change the process at all? And if you can't disconnect the suction what is the actual process? I'm trying to hook my 1000l tote up to a tee in the suction, hopefully that will work (or will that just trap air below the tee and cause other issues?). The top of the water in our well is probably 15' lower than the pump right now.

    Also have you had any experience with a Gould’s irrigator? I was looking at them for future expansion of my farm irrigation system but currently my system is a J5s and is always pressurized all 1 inch poly pipe. With the currently longest run of 1700ft But I would like to increase my mainline from 1 inch to 1 1/2 inch like the irrigators output and still allow me to only open one of the 1 inch or 3/4 side zones. But I recently talked to Gould’s and they said that the irrigator doesn’t like to be reduced down. Then how are people supposed to control zones that is technically reducing by closing zone valves isn’t it? Can you install an irrigator in a pressurized system with an expansion tank and pressure switch so that it will control the output without putting too much back pressure on the pump?

    You were talking about how the well loses its prime because of the air going in between the connections. You didn't mention putting in a check valve so it wouldn't lose its prime. Why?

    • @RCworstwater
      @RCworstwater  4 года назад +1

      Various situations can occur that lead to loss of prime on an existing pump install, and this video is intended to help people get their system primed and back to operational. This video was not created as an installation guide for a immersible type pumps. Foot valves are a critical component in preventing prime loss in nearly every immersible centrifugal pump on the market. I do not recommend a check valve on the suction line if a foot valve is present, this can lead to difficult troubleshooting down the road.

    • @obfuscated3090
      @obfuscated3090 4 года назад

      Check valves can be problematic and a check valve won't save a leaky system if the leak (for example) is below the check valve because seepage will dump the prime which a non-self-priming pump will not recover. A check valve on the inlet side of a pump (if the pump is not so fitted) prevents the pressure tank from dumping back through a seeping foot valve but doesn't itself maintain prime in the well pipe. It also PREVENTS pour priming unless you have one prime fitting (verticals like shown in the video hold a funnel nicely, and use a gate valve for reliability as shown) for the pump and another for "everything on the well side of the check valve". You can also buy self-priming pumps but they are considerably more expensive. My water tends sandy so my spare pump will be self-priming after I replace a worn foot valve (and all the well piping because PVC is cheap and broken well pipes SUCK to fish out if the owner didn't leave a line, I will use stainless aircraft cable since I'm a jet mech, love overkill and cable is thousands of pounds stronger than rope so a pinched casing should it happen may be overcome with winching. I always buy my next pump including replacement pipe fittings and wiring after installing a replacement since I expect to live long enough to need it and they don't break at convenient times. This worked nicely for thirty-plus years and I do it with all my plumbing parts when I replace wear components.

    But how do you prime the pump when the lines run down hill about 100+yards and the lines were completely dry because you just had to change a foot valve and you continue to add water but it seems like all the water is probably just disappearing because you never get to the point where the pump seems to be full of water so you can run it? Is there a way to push compressed air into the line to basically create a siphon so the lines can be full again and you only need to fill the pump? This shouldn’t be this hard and yet… I’ve been without water to my house since January because the damn pump won’t prime.

I can pour water into the opening that puts water into the pipe in the lake and into the pump. After putting about a gallon into the pump, the water gets to the top of the opening and I screw the threaded into the opening. There is a pumptrol and a pressure Gage on the pump. I also have a 2 inch flexible hose that connects the pump to a pressure tank. When I activate the pumptrol I can see water moving in the flexible hose, however I can also see air in the hose. I don't understand where the air in the hose attached to pressure tank is coming from. Even if there was air in the hose wouldn't the jet pump still be able to pump water into the pressure tank? Thanks for any advice you can provide!

    My pump keeps losing prime. I’m not pulling water from my deep sand point well. Could it be the well is dry or a bad foot Value? Any advice? Thanks

      It is likely that the well is dry. Typically sand point don't have a foot valve - just a check valve near the pump. You could try replacing that check valve and see if it fixes the issue.

    What would cause a pump to lose prime with 80 foot lines goulds jet pump. 2 hose ejector and foot valve. Do the ejector/footvalves get stuck open? If no holes in the lines what would cause a system to lose the prime or lose pressure when primed?

    • @RCworstwater
      @RCworstwater  5 лет назад +2

      It would have to be the foot valve if there are no holes in the pipe.

    I have a shallow well pump that has burn up the impeller. The pump has a tank with a bladder. I want to replace this pump with a jet pump. Does a jet pump require a tank with a bladder.

    I have a shallow well pump (above ground) with pressure tank and am about to replace both as the tank is leaking and the bearings on the pump are about to give in. My question is should I put a check valve before the new pump or after (on t-connector intake before the pressure tank). Thank you!

      You will need on the end of your suction line, the others are usually not needed.

Quick question my pump only gives me air pressure with a little bit of water sometomes. The preasuere is strong but no water just sprays here and there. Please help friend.!

      Sounds like your pump may be losing its prime, I would first verify the foot valve is functioning and holding water, then fill the pump and suction lines with water and try to run it. If the problem continues contact me with the problem. Thanks for the sub!

    Hi Chris. Why wouldn't you just hook a guzzler pump up to prime it? Isn't that simpler? Your pump priming pump is essentially the same thing. Any reason as to why that one over a guzzler?

    So I have watched several of you videos.
    I still can't find one that will tell me what happens if a bladder tank has only got 5 lb of air in it.
    I'm having problems with my pump as soon as I get it to prime it automatically turns off.
    why would this happen??????

    What if the suction pipe goes above the pump and then back down to it?

    • @RCworstwater
      @RCworstwater  5 лет назад

      That means you have a "Deep well" jet pump. Both pipes must be filled with water, as well as the pump volute.

      R.C. Worst & Co., Inc. no like I have a shallow well pump and I'm wondering if I can have the suction pipe go up to a rafter from the pump and then over and into the pipe going into the ground

    • @RCworstwater
      @RCworstwater  5 лет назад

      @@sammyg3697 It is possible, but it will be a nightmare to keep it operational like that. You would have to add a priming port at the highest point of the suction line and fill it from there. Any air that entered the system would collect there and likely need to be purged/reprimed fairly often.

    Might anyone know why, when I prime the suction line, the water totally disappears! I’ve poured 30+ gallons. The pump will still pull water up but there is a lot of air in there...
    I guessed that the well is dry, grandparents are adamant that’s not the problem. Will a loose pipe on the suction line cause a problem like that?

    • @RCworstwater
      @RCworstwater  4 года назад

      Yes, you definitely have a leak in the suction pipe. It is most likely in the foot valve, located at the bottom of the suction pipe. Pull it up and inspect. If it is the foot valve you can buy a new one here: www.rcworst.com/Valves-c80.html?Attribs=504&
