You're good. Knowledge level is really high. The way you talk, quality must be the priority for parts. I appreciate that. You must already know the customer didn't do this work themselves, or have his brother or friend do that shoddy work. Otherwise, you risk upsetting the customer by trashing his brother or friends work. That's why I always take a humble approach when explaining why something failed. I try not to denigrate the previous technician because you never k ow who that person was. But you're an amazingly knowledgeable and skilled plumber. I'm impressed.
I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR YOU. I am reading this at 3am. Can’t get my pump people to figure out why the pump light comes on when water is not on. You ar so smart. Thank you. I am gong to get them or another company to come back asap.
expanded and see your pump video on sizing. going to watch them all. I believe the good Lord will repay you for helping folks but i am going to send something soon after i get this system fixed
never lived on well water til this year, thank you for all you do my man you have educated me enough to know how to handle issues and who to call when its over my head!! THANK YOU!!
Thank you for the video and adding the links! Very informative and helpful. Not to many people in your trade are willing to share. I hope you reach your goal of 100k and more!
Just some clarification, the pump isn't lifting. Its pushing. Even an above ground pump doesn't lift. It creates a vacuum and atmospheric pressure pushes the water up into the pump. BTW, great videos!
Thanks for a great video! I'm a plumber, looking to get certified for wells and I have a few questions/comments: 1) Why no torque arrestor on the new pump, is it a soft-start motor? 2) What would be the correct distance from the pump to the torque arrestor of one is used? 3) You mentioned "no check valve at the top", do you remove the pump's internal check and install one just above the pump? 4) Do you ever recommend installing a rope to the pump? 5) What brands of pump do you prefer? 6) In my area (central Piedmont NC), well water is often slightly acidic and will corrode brass fittings within a few years, so I've been using stainless fittings where possible, like Boshart makes a whole Tank Tee/accessory kit with everything in stainless, even a Square D pressure switch. Often stainless steel fittings are either same price or less than brass.
Hey sir, really appreciate what you do.! thank you!! QUESTION: im working in the southern Rockies in an area hard hit by forest fires and then floods (Hermits Peak Fire in Mora New Mexico) Am a contract water system operator turned well mechanic by necesity. absolutely love it! helping folks recover after getting wiped out by the fire/flooding is extremly gratifying. most stuff i can fix no prob, but ive got one thats a puzzler. 200' well, pumps running great pulling about 5 amps and producing plenty of water. Since the fire, it has started having moderate turbidity and a sulfur smell, but thats not the reason im writing. the well will pump all the way up to 60, cut off like normal, water flows and pressure slowly drops to 40/38 lbs, then guage drops like a rock. contacts remain open but pressure plumits from 38-0 in a second or two, then sits there for a pause of 3-4 seconds, then contacts close and pump comes on, recharges like normal. customer switched pressure switch from 40/60 to 30/50 just to see if it made a difference, it did not. Tank bladder holds at whatever its set at, 2 lbs less then low cut-on point. the only thing im thinking is maybe a plugged pressure switch line, which ill check, but is there anything else you can think of? i dont feel like that tube is gonna be plugged, but i cant thinknof anything else, can you? really appreciate you sir! thank you so much! Scott Frost Backflow New Mexico
The tanks got too much air in it. If the switch is still a 30/50, drop the tank air pressure to 25psi. Keep it 5psi below instead of 2. Switches are not made like they used to, I've had similar issues. As far as the nipple being clogged, that's also a big possibility, it'll cause the exact same issue your experiencing. The trebidity / sulfur smell is due to the fires, rain water is washing the soot into the ground and it's mixing with upper water veins (I've seen it happen to a natural spring during Hwy 95 road construction, their retention ponds were muddy and affected near by wells.) Only time will fix that problem.
Pretty interesting. I hit the links for the products in the description. Reasonable prices....pump price isn't bad, although it can be had for 17% less at Aqua Science...free shipping too. (That's where I bought the supplies to replace my pump when it died).
Great channel, smart and thorough. Property got hit by lightning near the well head., get a bit of a momentary voltage dip in the house when the pump runs, I am going to check current draw next. I check my pre charge every Fall season. Thank you.
Fedora 1 second ago Great information. Thank you. My problem is I have air sputtering from all my faucets. The flow of water volume and pressures are fine but spits air every 10 seconds or so.
We got a spool that we can throw on the back of our pickup, get into tight spots and then all we need to do is get the pitless up over the wheel. Wheel runs off the 12v plug on the back of the pickup. I can make a vid next time i use it.
With pvc a crane is nice to have, but not necessary. My well had 1" steel pipe at 160'. I pulled it by hand with a rope with a friction knot. And 3 pipe wrenches. That was loads of fun, 10 ft at a time.
You are a very good teacher! I've just purchsed a home in Tamassee SC been sitting for about 5 years built in the late 70's. The barbed connector that comes out of the 3/4 galvanized 90 where the house line connects from the well pipe has a crack (no pressure) should I use stainless or just go back with a PVC connector seeing that everything else is plastic. Thanks for the very helpful information.
So I see you do not reinstall that large thing tapered all the way around on the pipe just above the pimp like this previously had. What is it if you don’t need it? I also noticed that you don’t install a hanging assist rope. I would think it would be worth it for the cost. Kinda like a cheap insurance policy. Love your videos. Your a very thorough company and it appears your farther taught you well. Your lucky to have such a great dad and a close family. It makes for a nice business for you. Keep up the good work men. It’s hard working people like you that keep America running strong. And with your videos you let people see what all is involved in their just having something as simple as good drinkable water to live on in their houses. Otherwise it’s all just magical to them. 🐢
thank you for answering my question the other day. i guess i might need to redo the whole thing. but I paid a lot to a reputable company a few years ago. i wish I did not have to pay for the crane every time. How can I convince them to use roll pipe si I can pull it myself. 25 years no trouble , now after about 5 years more trouble. i have no water
I took some pictures but I don’t know how to upload them. The pressure switch has a small red electrical fixture that connects to the ground as well as the hot wire
Wayne from alberta. Do you ever show what happens if you cut pump moter looks like inside the pump. Like cutting motor in half. And when you shock treat do you let it stay in hole for weekend help to clean water
Thank you for all of the great information in all of your videos! Was able to replace our pressure tank in Aug and had the confidence to replace our sub pump in Oct with the help of my 2 sons. Question for you, when our pressure tank calls for water and the pump kicks on we get one strong bang or knock. The pipe enters the house in the basement then we have a check valve about 2’ from where the pipe enters the house but before my big blue filter. The filter is just before my pressure tank The knock or bang seems to be right where the line enters the house. Its somewhere between the entry point, the check valve and the big blue filter. I would appreciate any suggestion you may have. Thank you again for sharing all your knowledge. Best videos on youtube about all things related to water wells!
On shallow well with pump in cellar when pump calls on I only get a min or so of good draw then pressure gauge drops to 15 psi get air pockets. Been drought conditions this summer. What are your thoughts and suggestions? Low water table level? I seem to have low yield and slow regeneration time to well.
Wonderful and informative video as usual. You truly are helping a whole lot of us out, thank you. I have what I think may be a unique situation with my well, and I was wondering if you'd be willing to help me out?? Is it possible to have a lawn hydrant connected to the top of my well? I'm not sure how it's done yet, but I think my setup is not setup correctly.
So I installed a new tank with all new plumbing around the tank along with a new pressure switch and check valve. We used copper pipe. I have no leaks at any of the joints or connections. I also checked the air pressure in tank I brought it down to 28psi due to i have a 30-50 switch. I still have air in the system. So my question is that my problem is prolly outside at the pump or connections at the top?
I have a question, do they make spring clamps for those black roll fittings? I have always found them to be the superior clamp over long term due to how they can expand and contract with the pipe and fitting.
Quick question i'm dealing with a similar problem at church. I. Understand You can Shut The main off and isolate the drop pipe but how can you Determine or isolate from the well To the house on the underground pipe?
I have small house in PA. With a well sistem Is ok to add the chlorine pool that you use in my well ? Is a little high in iron. Thanks for your recommendation n God bless you
Do you have any videos explaining how to increase the pressure. I have a shallow well pump for my water storage tanks, that i got from harbor freight. It does the job, but my pressure for home never been the greatest, I feel like I probably can get greater pressure and so I was looking at adding a pressure tank but I dont know anything about them and am I trying to learn. Any advice given will be appreciated.
We have a "galvanized" system with a "air volume" control in the tank. Somehow, the system brings up a bit of air each time the pump is fired up and the air control bleeds out the excess. What I don't know is how the air get into the pipe in the first place. (BTW: it's a good system because it keeps about a half tank of water in reserve if the power goes out.
Is there any precaution or suggestions for preventing the well pump head fitting from cracking that you mention in your video? Of course over tightening, but anything else that may help out?
So I have a question. I changed my tank from a conventional to a bladder style and replaced my feed line from the pump to the tank but I'm constantly getting air in my system
Just bought a house with a well. There’s a tee at the top of the well. One main line goes to the house and the other side of the tee goes to the yard. I shut the line to the house off while we remodel. I installed a lawn spicket just outside the well on the line going to the yard. Now, whether the lawn spicket is on or off the 75 psi pressure relief valve keeps spraying water. Any thoughts?
I have acquired property in Tennessee and it has a well. I had the water tested and came back with 1 bacteria present. Bottom line, looking for the best whole house filter system, with UV light. Please advise! Thank you!
Question, why isn't the electric wire inside conduit? Yes, NEC does not require that but digging up buried PVC well piping and nicking or severing the wire is always a real posibility. A trench is dug, PVC is laid down with plenty of room for 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch conduit. This should be code!
I have to say no to plastic fittings. Brass or stainless. Issue with stainless is that stainless on stainless needs good thread sealer or approved lube as to not gall the thread. Really enjoy your videos. Great job. How’s the racing going?
Just finished a 24 hour endurance race last Saturday. Out of 64 entries, we finished the race in 7th place. Slowly getting closer to a win. But I only can afford 3 races at the most each year
I have a glass lined 42 gallon perma tank with a snifter valve in line with a check valve and a relief valve. It has the pressure gage and the pressure switch on the side of the tank. The snifter valve is leaking water while the pump is running and sucking air when the pump is off. There is air in the water line. So, if I replace the snifter valve, empty the tank and set the pressure at cut-in minus 2 psi, will that theoretically solve the problem. And, can I still use the tank? Next, I will solve the problem of leak down in the water line or the pump supply line. Does that sound reasonable? Thanks.
My switch fails to cut in some times, and is happening more often as time go's on. The pump puts out more then enough presser and the system will hold is pressure. I replaced the switch less then a year ago. I am at a lost as to what the problem is. Thank you
Good stuff! We had a freeze up here no issues got it back, after running torpedo for 2 hours yesterday. Guage is messed up on the tank now though, going to grab a new one in the morning. Nothings open today :( new subscriber here. Great channel my man. I also had a question how do I tell what pump was used in my well is there a plate on the well head usually? Live in downeast maine
I have a check valve inside my house right before the pressure tank, so the house doesn't lose water pressure. But I'm getting air in the lines so I think there's a leak between the pump and the house that's pushing air into the pipes when the pump runs. The problem is the well was dug when the county didn't require info to be filed, so I have no idea how deep the well is, how low the pump hangs, or where the water level is. Is my only option to pull the pump out so that I can measure everything and see what kind of pump and length of pipe I need? The problem would be if something breaks and I'm unable to put it back. There's nowhere around me to buy a decent pump on the same day. Only Lowe's and Tractor Supply. Is it safe to guess at maybe a 3/4 hp pump for a 4 bedroom 2 1/2 bath house and buy it ahead of time so I can order something of decent quality?
Help!! Lol I'm having issues with air in the lines, spitting sputtering when first opening faucet and flushing toilet. I Went under the house and the pressure tank feels empty I can rock it back and forth and feel/hear no water is this normal? Also the pressure reading slowly draws down until the valve clicks open and raises pressure. Any idea what to replace or check from here? Other then the air in lines all faucets seem to run like normal water volume wise..
I have air in my lines. I'm sure it's a leak somewhere, My question is to you. There Is a guy on youtube that uses a big tank and a digital pressure switch. He claims it's better for efficiency. Do you do anything like that and is it true? I could give you a link to his video.thank you
here in So. California we all have 4-8000 gallon storage tanks, why is that and they are not used in your area. and I do not see a listing for the SS clamps
Basically it's your states laws. Too many ppl on the west coast are pulling the Aquifers down faster than they can recover. So your forced to have large tanks bc of the depths of your well. You Basically have a household water tower. The state designed yalls that way so a company can deliver you tanker loads of water. Eventually CA will be forced to do things differently in 30+ years.
Love your videos! Have you ever experienced water to continue coming out of the black pipe at the wall during a tank replacement? Well pump is off, but water is still coming out at a low pressure, but enough to fill a 5 gallon bucket within a couple minutes. Is it some kind of siphon happening?
Yes, typically that's the water heater back draining...hopefully it didn't empty too much & burn the element. If it back fed from the well side, then that happens if the well is at a higher elevation than the house, it'll act like a siphon bc the pipe does down hill & sucks water out the well. It only happens in the perfect storm type situation, but can happen. I always have a cap ready to plug it in those situations
My pressure switch stops clicking when I open the air release. Now water comes out strong, but if I close it then I get the clicking noise. I have changed the Pressure switch and the air tank. Any guess of what it might be?
I have a 40ft well with a new vevor pump in a capped well with a old pressure system. The house had no water coming into it for 10yrs. But I did it all by myself. Now I have alot of air n jerking from the faucets in the house. Could it be that I didn't seal the cap to the well good enough n air is coming into my pipes
No, normally the issue is a leaking check valve in the pump. It leaks down & causes a air pocket in the pipe. Try the suction test like this video shows
I no what your saying some times though the pressure tank can also do similar things as well when the bladder is bad. Good thing it was still holding by the wire with out a safety cable. It would be almost impossible to get out. Yup all new. he new just enough as always lol.💧🌊👍✌️👌🥂
So that was pool shock? Like trichlor? Isn't that stuff like 50% cyanuric acid (UV stabilizer for chlorine)? Or was it calcium hypochlorite? Thanks for this video. About to lift my drop pipe looking for a leak upstream of my checkvalve. I can hear it very close to the well head when the pump stops!
Hey what do you recommend for a well at 426 feet that was done in 2004 and company used pvc pipes and glued 1 in the other as they placed inside the well and it's never worked correctly from day one, what do you recommend to fix the problem, the well stops and restarts all the time.
My pressure gauge at the pressure (40/60) switch goes to 70psi, then stops and goes down to 60psi in a few seconds, then with no water usage goes down to 40psi in 30 minutes or so then starts pump. What could be going on ?
One more comment/question: I don't see a pressure relief on the tank Tee, is it not required? We have to have a 75 psi relief on the tank Tee, but many tees are not made with the extra opening for it, so until we found the Boshart stainless kit, we had to add a PVC tee for a boiler drain. Not a criticism, just curious. Thanks!
Can you tell me if it's legal in Michigan for me to not use that stupid hard one shot pipe and do it your way? I'm a widow and can't afford to have a well company come.
Hi, my pump just quit. I just scheduled an appointment for Monday however I am out of water until then. I’m no plumber but after watching your video I did some troubleshooting. There is power at the pressure switch. There was no pressure in the well tank. Mine is 20/40, and I add 15 psi of air. It still doesn’t work. Do you have any idea what else I could try?
No music no stupid intros just great clear information! Its been a pleasure watching your channel
I really like this guy. Smart and honest. I wish he was in Wisconsin..🙂

But I only can afford 3 races at the most each year
Stainless is the preferred material and just buy the correct sealant for SS. Done.
Thanks.
I've got a well that keeps tripping breaking. I did find a wire nut was grounding out, changed it out a week later tripping again.
My switch fails to cut in some times, and is happening more often as time go's on. The pump puts out more then enough presser and the system will hold is pressure. I replaced the switch less then a year ago. I am at a lost as to what the problem is. Thank you
Nipple below switch is clogged up. Or the tank has too much air in it (could be going bad)
I was able to check the water level with a fishing bobber. Water is just 17' below the well cap. So I have that one measurement.
There Is a guy on youtube that uses a big tank and
a digital pressure switch. He claims it's better for efficiency. Do you do anything like that and is it true? I could give you a link to his video.thank you
This video was very useful.
Another Excellent Vid!!!
Learning a lot from you
Thanks
The two pulls wheels used to let the pump back down in the well how much is one of those things
How do you prevent freeze damage with the pressure tank and lines outside?
I have a 40ft well with a new vevor pump in a capped well with a old pressure system. The house had no water coming into it for 10yrs. But I did it all by myself. Now I have alot of air n jerking from the faucets in the house. Could it be that I didn't seal the cap to the well good enough n air is coming into my pipes
No, normally the issue is a leaking check valve in the pump. It leaks down & causes a air pocket in the pipe. Try the suction test like this video shows
@@h2omechanic Your well may be going dry along with other things.
Maybe cheaped out on the install but my mans grass is on point.
I have sputtering and air coming from all taps in the cabin. Is this from the bladder burst or from the pump with a possible leak?
Normally it's due to a leak near the pump or a faulty check valve in the pump.
Great Video. Can you give us a link to the clamps that are 100% stainless steel that you use? Thank you.
I sell them at
www.h2o-mechanic.com
It's calcium hypochlorite
Hey what do you recommend for a well at 426 feet that was done in 2004 and company used pvc pipes and glued 1 in the other as they placed inside the well and it's never worked correctly from day one, what do you recommend to fix the problem, the well stops and restarts all the time.
I would look at the pressure in your tank.
Do you have to be a certified plumber to work on wells or certified to work on just well sytems
We hold plumbing, electrical & drilling licenses
Do you ever use unions anywhere?
IF I RUN OUTTA WATER...
IS IT NORMAL FOR THE PUMP TO STAY ON?
I CAN HEAR A "HUMMING " SOUND WHEN IM WELL IS DRY
Where can I buy the center devices
Our pump is making a hissing sound, but the pump seem to work fine. Do you have any advice? Should I be concerned?
“Cheap Stuff ain’t good. Good Stuff ain’t cheap!
Oh wow, I need you here
Whats the difference between the black pipe you used?
My pressure gauge at the pressure (40/60) switch goes to 70psi, then stops and goes down to 60psi in a few seconds, then with no water usage goes down to 40psi in 30 minutes or so then starts pump. What could be going on ?
Where are you located?
Videos are awesome
One more comment/question: I don't see a pressure relief on the tank Tee, is it not required? We have to have a 75 psi relief on the tank Tee, but many tees are not made with the extra opening for it, so until we found the Boshart stainless kit, we had to add a PVC tee for a boiler drain. Not a criticism, just curious. Thanks!
We normally have a check valve right on the intake, so that trick wouldnt work. Still great.
Can you tell me if it's legal in Michigan for me to not use that stupid hard one shot pipe and do it your way? I'm a widow and can't afford to have a well company come.
How much you think it cost for them come fix and look at it??
$150 travel + 1st hr
How much was the repair?
Hi, my pump just quit. I just scheduled an appointment for Monday however I am out of water until then. I’m no plumber but after watching your video I did some troubleshooting. There is power at the pressure switch. There was no pressure in the well tank. Mine is 20/40, and I add 15 psi of air. It still doesn’t work. Do you have any idea what else I could try?
I just replaced the pump I still don't have no pressure anything in no water
Do they make tank tees female threaded?
The out end has both male & female threads.
