    • @searchlight18
      @searchlight18 9 лет назад

      +lotsoffun It could be because he's a vegan. There are two crucial amino acids only found in animal products. Without them one's brain is in a constant state of desperation for nourishment, making a person nearly insane. That's why vegans are usually pricks in real life.

    • @KyoPewz
      @KyoPewz 8 лет назад +4

      +lotsoffun Without trying to get into a huge argument, how is he fake? Everyone I've ever heard talk about him says he really is that cheerful normally, just because its not the norm doesn't mean it's automatically fake. Do you have any actual proof of his "fakery" other than just your very subjective opinion on the matter?
      Not being able to stand him on the other hand is perfectly legitimate. Different strokes for different folks but don't blame it on you thinking he's fake.

    • @lotsoffun4939
      @lotsoffun4939 8 лет назад

      KyoPewz Watch a few of his interviews, he's so cheery and whenever someone makes a joke he just leans back, clasps his hands together and laughs. It's so goddamn fake. It's not an opinion, every late night tv host does it
      I think his sketches are funny, the batman ones always make me laugh. But his "normal" persona that he displays in front of the camera is so cringy.

      @@colincampbell3199 Because it's written in English by Englishmen, also England was always a tough nation to keep for the Romans since the natives were so warlike and was always a topic of discussion even in Roman times. Also no one wants to hear a yankee accent in a historical based movie/show

    I'm not a fan of the fantasy genre myself but I fucking love Game of Thrones. I think it's mainly because of the realism and the conflicts. Yes there are dragons, white walkers, warlocks, etc but they tackle conflicts that people can identify with... It's not a happy story where the good people eventually end up on top. Atm it is the best tv series (RIP Breaking Bad), and season 4 looks epic!

      My buddy won't watch it just because of South Parks hilarious parody, he has an image of dicks flopping around every episode and can't convince him otherwise. Also says he won't watch it because of exactly what this guy just said with the accents making it seem out of this world. People need to just look past things out of their comfort zone

    • @clonedllama
      @clonedllama 10 лет назад +3

      Woogie Harrelson The reason why that South Park parody is so funny is because it's such an inaccurate description of what the show actually contains. And it pokes fun at the way the show disproportionately has more female nudity than male nudity. If he has anything to worry about, it's getting slapped in the face with lots of breasts. lol
      As for the accents thing, that's really just ridiculous. People all over the world have different accents. The characters have accents because the *actors* actually have accents. Since GRRM's books are heavily inspired by medieval history, it makes logical sense that the characters would have various European accents.
      I know I don't need to convince you of anything but if it helps, tell your friend that the show is essentially historical fiction in a made up world so the ending isn't know. I find that tends to help ease non-fantasy fans into the show and the books.

    Game of thrones is based in the past, or atleast related to it, not a single gun, most of it looks pretty medieval with the feel and scenery, plenty of castles and keeps, America dousn't have a past that goes that far back at least not the white settlers of today anyway, the uk has been around for thousands of years and has had a history similar to GoT's and that's why everyone has a British accent in it.

    The "British accent" thing never bugged me about fantasy settings because they're usually loosely based on medieval England so it sort of makes sense. Where it really bugs me is the fact that they always use it in ancient Roman settings. Granted, we don't know what sort of accent they had back then but wouldn't a vaguely Italian sounding accent make more sense?

      Replying to a decade old comment: idk why they don't "make up" accents more often in film/television.. it's the perfect in-world solution to that problem. It's done sometimes in literature, but very rarely in visual formats. I wonder why that is!

    Isn't the british accent as we know it actually a fairly recent thing?

    • @Scoob505
      @Scoob505 8 лет назад

      +Krak thoom Yes, with their rhotic slant, only a few hundred years old. Since the 1700 - 1800s. Before that they pronounced their Rs. The upper class in England developed this style of accent to distinguish themselves from the poorer classes during imperial Britain I would imagine. Before that they probably all sounded a bit like Irish people, or something like tthe American accent. Boston is an example of an american accent that is rhotic like the British one, because many of the eastern coastal cities had to deal with the British in trade.

    • @Scoob505
      @Scoob505 8 лет назад +1

      dust The Boston accent was still influenced by the English through coastal trade, and some other places along the east if I remember correctly.

    • @arpitakodagu9854
      @arpitakodagu9854 6 лет назад

      Are people still peddling the myth that the "American" accent (which one?) is more similar to a traditional "English" accent (which one?) than the English accents that they are typically familiar with - RP and cockney? There are more regional accents in England alone than in the whole of the United States. Moreover, rhoticism is not the only defining feature of an accent by a long shot and there are certainly English regional accents that preserve it like in the Midlands. The idea of the American accent being the truer one smacks of an inferiority complex and really just needs to be banished to linguistics hell.

    • @MrLorddarktoothx
      @MrLorddarktoothx 7 лет назад +1

      yes i mean as a host, you have a script and have to be mindful of commercial breaks and timing out interview segments, etc etc etc, and maybe more nervous because its your job, as opposed to being a guest. as a guest you can bomb it and it dont matter, you can be as silly as you want and wont matter, you can be a terrible guest in every way ... but the host ends up looking worse for it. its definitely more to take in and be aware of while being a host, and not as relaxed as being the guest.

    Look, I love Pete Holmes, and I know that he's just joking, but his "realm" gripe with the show just doesn't make any sense. GOT takes place in the Seven KINGDOMS, and I don't think I've heard a single character say the word "realm" in all four seasons of the show. I know I'm taking this way more seriously than I should, but it bugs me. It's a detail that anyone who's seen a single episode knows is totally inapplicable, so the joke is just nonsensical. It's like saying you can't get into Battlestar Galactica because you hate it when people say "Beam me up, Scotty!"

    Game of thrones bores me, I wish they would balance the action and drama more, there is just too much talk and not enough of all the aspects to make it entertaining enough. LOTR is way better.

    • @Trevian20
      @Trevian20 10 лет назад +3

      ***** To me, LOTR flows better as a story in the books and in the movie trilogy, to be honest the only character I really liked in GOT was Eddard stark, he was the only really strong character and they killed him off too early in the series. But LOTR and GOT can be compared regardless of one being a tv series and one being a movie trilogy, they are both in the category of entertainment. GOT doesn't incorporate enough of all the aspects to make it interesting enough, that goes for any source of entertainment. Just because GOT is a tv series doesn't mean it cant balance the drama and action more like a movie does. Yeah LOTR is a movie not a tv series, but that doesn't mean it cant be better. Also they are both in the fantasy genre and books as well, they can definitely be compared.

    • @Trevian20
      @Trevian20 10 лет назад +6

      ***** LOTR is not for children, but the hobbit is. When Tolkien was writing LOTR I don't think he wrote it intending for it to be for children, just look at the huge backstory, and the history of source material that covers way more than just the LOTR books. That doesn't seem like a childrens book to me. But to me LOTR is more heartfelt and has more soul at the heart of the story. I will say I love the GOT music though, there is no denying the music is awesome. No hard feelings, I just think GOT is not on the same level as LOTR as far as the grand epic scale and scope.

    • @Trevian20
      @Trevian20 10 лет назад

      That could be true. Interesting theory. Loved desolation of smaug.

    • @NickYungkit
      @NickYungkit 10 лет назад +1

      ***** I can't compare cause I've never watched GOT either, but you either don't read enough or have some prodigious skill at reading to call it a children's book. I dunno about you, but you've gotta be a serious bookworm to be an 8 year old reading through all the long speeches and dialogue of old speech in ROTK, that was some boring stuff when I was 8. Only truly appreciated it word for word a couple years later.
      Plus, LOTR is an epic, the trilogy that set the foundation for high fantasy and the whole conflict of 'good vs evil'. You just need to learn to appreciate GOT for what it is, and LOTR for what it is. It's a great trilogy. Most certainly not a children's book.
