That was a very fun with Thomas and my grandson. Great to see things through his eyes. Matthew Sweet Girlfriend album is one of my all time favorite albums Kris, a perfect album for me
The worlds biggest Steam Train come through Denver 10/21. I’m excited about that ! Aiden keeps asking me to play my videos of the train, over and over and over haha. JMC was a nice surprise. Hard to believe they are around 60! Wow where does time go Mike
Hey Steve, choo choo! Always great VCLT from Trish. Sweet, glad you have sat down with the King Buffalo! I can’t remember the top 40 hit that OMD had in the 80’s. If Dave tells you to get more OMD, you will lol. Can’t wait for the room tour. Peace ☮️ Namaste 🙏 the Zonkman
Awesome King Buffalo albums Steve, thank you so much. What a great group Dave can be a bad influence. Live of Die was the OMD hit, bought that album back into my collection recently.
Good morning Steve! Nice intro my oldest son absolutely loved Thomas the Tank Engine when he was little! Cool King Buffalo albums🔥 That Mathew Sweet sample sounds like everything I despised about’80s music 😂 Girlfriend is a great record though from my cd era. Take care Brian ☮️
Yea Aiden is really into Thomas. I took some videos of the train and Sunday night I had to keep showing them over and over lol. It was weird to here the difference between a Sweet album in 89 and then the next in 90, So different
I recommend a cup of coffee with all my Sunday videos just in case they get boring. I mad you heard something new. I love samples so people can hear the music, sometimes you like it and sometime you wonder what is wrong with me lol. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Cool VCLT from DJ Trish, mix CDs are always great. Well, you sold me on the JAMC album, I'll stream it to make sure I really like it before I buy it. Barbed Wire Kisses is also great, I have an OG of that, cool you scored a copy. Only song I remember by OMD, was Enola Gay, their song about the plane that dropped the bomb on Nagasaki in WW2. Nice to see you spending time with your grandson, How he feels about Thomas the Tank Engine is the same as how you feel about the Velvet Underground! Take care Steve and have a great week.
lol, VU and Thomas the Tank Engine so true Michael. I’m glad you like the JMC album. I was also unsure of buying it but glad I did. Hard to Lee I’ve they are around 60 now
Hello Steve; Some Smokestack Lightning to start the EMS show. Always nice to receive a VCLT mixtape from a friend. Jesus & Mary Chain, alt shoe gaze pop. King Buffalo, rocks next step. Matthew Sweet, Alt pop sound. OM in the Dark, post punk. Take care. Tina & Pat!!~
Hi you two. It was so much fun to take my grandson around the Thomas the Train event. October has one that deals with trucks that he gets very excited about. I can’t wait! The King Buffalo has been very interesting, great music to put on and sit back and relax
King Buffalo releases their own albums so they really are not known outside the US. Hard to find their albums. It is a great example of modern day Space Rock
Thanks for another great video Mr. Carlson. There was a time where I couldnt get enough of Jesus and the Mary Chain and OMD amongst others. They used to play them lots in the alternative clubs all the time. When I wasn’t doing punk shows I liked that music too. Oddly I fell out of listening to those two bands over the years. I will have resuscitate my interest into listening to them again. Much appreciated. Have a terrific week my friend.
Victor, I think we all move away from some of the music we use to love as we find new musical territory to discover. It’s always interesting when someone like yourself who was playing fast and furious punk was also enjoying groups like OMD. I like that, it shows your diversity and love of music, very cool.
Cool VCLT from Trish. Mix club sounds great. wow....Jesus and Mary Chain are still playing and making new music! Who knew? I have Barbed Wire Kisses on CD. And more great VCLT from the Zonkman! King Buffalo rules! Wow, I never knew about the Sweet/Stipe connection before. Interesting. Architecture and Morality is the only OMD record I have (on tape.) I'm not sure why I never got more of their records - I love A and M. Thanks for showing the records Steve!
Randy, always a pleasure when you drop by. I bought the first three JMC albums and then moved on from them. It was fun to hear this album, it sounded great Zonkman and his wife have been good friends and have been loyal watchers for years. A lot of special people in the VC Randy
That is cool about being able to take your kids to see Thomas James. It was exciting to watch my grandson get excited and to see his eyes get big when he saw Thomas was priceless.
Love The Jesus and Mary Chain! That album cover looks like the OG sock puppet lol. I’d like to see them do the river dance to some Shoegaze lol. Nice OMD never came across that release. Cool beans. Have a great week, Steve
That was hilarious, fight with Riverdance haha. Don’t mess with the Irish. As far as that OMD release Steve, keep digging in that locker, there must be one in there!
Hey there Steve. Nice to spend some time with you again. For a three man band King Buffalo surely makes a statement. Really talented band. You really can't pick out one band member to praise. They are all good. I was always partial to OMD's "Crush". Especially side one. But the one that you bought "A&M" is an excellent album. There were a few synth pop bands that stood above every other. The ones that I listened to were New Order, D Mode and OMD. I grabbed Barbed Wire Kisses on RSD in and around 2014/15. Not a bad album at all. Cool update Steve. How has the weather been there?~ Rob/Boston
Rob, the weather has been very warm, third warmest year ever. It has given us time now that work has slowed down to visit the mountains. There is a lot of mountain footage coming up in my videos. King Buffalo has been praised by Steve Bender for years so he finally sent me one of their albums, I became a fan. Now he shipped three more. They have a very full and powerful sound. I would guess beach weather has come to an end for you my friend
Hey Steve 👋. I was looking forward to hearing your needle drops of King Buffalo's music. I definitely hear that Floyd vibe on that song. I would like that music no doubt. Zonkman is a good 👍 dude 😎
Steve is great Greg, he has been a great friend like you. He as asked forever about KB so he finally had to send me an album to convince me lol. It worked
Dr. Darby was an early fan of the Thomas the Tank Engine books in North America. We were about to get on a plane in Manchester, when she was about 3, and I was looking for something to read to her. I read Darby a million books when she was growing up. I had no idea what it was, but it had smiley trains on the cover. Then, she became such a fan that I had to send my poor grandfather down to Derby (the town she's named after) to buy further books and mail them to L.A. I think we had 36 or so. She had me read 3 of them each night and would pick the ones she wanted just before bedtime. I actually met Britt Alcroft (the woman who brought Thomas to television). Met her at an upscale bar in Santa Monica to discuss a project. It was about talking goats. Never went anywhere. I remember she drank Pimms. Alas, Darby was too old for Thomas merch by then.
Wow Dr Darby was all in on Thomas. My boys enjoyed him but we didn’t get a lot of Thomas merchandise. I always thought it was funny that Ringo Starr and George Carlin were the conductors haha. Alcroft did not bite on talking goats? Maybe you should have picked a more friendly animal Ike a Vietnamese Pig. Do you still have those Thomas Books?
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 The talking goat was actually her idea. I think she wanted us to try and develop it but she had a number of very eccentric ideas that never got off the ground. I believe we still have the set though, they're still in L.A. with my records and most of our furniture.
Hi Steve - Looking forward to seeing The Jesus & Mary Chain with The Psychedelic Furs in November at The RUclips theater in Southern California. Outstanding that Tigers 🐅 made the playoffs !
Steve, your Sunday morning show makes my day.. I'm reading a book by Dave Marsh...He was one of the founders of Creem magazine../The book is titled The Heart of Rock & Soul.../Subtitle..The 1001 Greatest singles ever made. Fascinating..
Hello Steve, I've been watching your podcasts and enjoy them. Good Jesus and Mary Chain story. I've never checked out their music. King Buffalo sounds interesting, nice album artwork. I drive down to Athens every couple of years for fun, Lo Yo Yo Stuff records is a great record shop there. Have a great week, thanks.
Ralph, thank you for taking the time to watch our podcast. We have such a good time doing it. I would love to visit Athens and soak up the vibe down there. Someday Ralph.
Missed Jesus and Mary Chain Concert last year (no friend to go with). Never heard of King Buffalo but I shall try them.... We read about terrible storms in Florida today.......
Hasse, that storm kept going into the heart of the US. It was devastating with all of the flooding that happened. So many people still missing King Buffalo is quite trippy but somewhat relaxing
Wow! I picked up the best album from OMD! I finally got it right Brian. We all have this big list of albums we want don’t we. It comes down to Where Does It Go?
Trying to picture a bar brawl with the Riverdance cast, I think I would pay money to see that. Long as I didn't have to fight any of them myself that is, they are probably in top condition and can kick real good lol. Ah, the Thomas stage, my kids were into it too and used to watch the DVD's over and over. Don't think I ever heard the OMD album, supposed to be one of their best though. Cheers Steve
Doug, I did some filming of Thomas and last night Aiden had me playing those little snippets over and over and over. It was fun to see and be apart of it. I would also pay to see a Riverdance brawl. Wouldn’t that be a hoot. No punching please!
Were your boys into Thomas the Tank Engine coming up? Mine was - we had a small fortune in all the wooden trains. Didn’t get much for them later, but the memories were priceless, including seeing that life-size train (and riding in it) once. Looking forward to your room tour!
My boys liked Thomas, they watched the show but didn’t need all the merchandise. Dad liked Thomas also! Aiden may get a wooden train for Xmas. Again, grandpa likes them!
Here's another one for you to check out. Steven Wilson's band, Porcupine Tree are probably too prog for your taste, but the first album. 'On The Sunday of Life', was basically a Wilson solo venture. The actual band came together as he wanted to play live. Anyway, that first double-album is much more psychedelic than the later stuff, and I think you'd like it.
Dave, last year someone sent my a Steven Wilson album. They said it was his most pop oriented album. So many people recommend and love Porcupine Tree. I do need to try them out someday. I did get in a couple of albums you recommended a couple weeks ago that was excellent. I will keep you on the hook my friend on what the group is lol.
ill definatly check the Jesus and Mary out. a river dance fight! as long as you time the kicks you should ne ok. would there be a guy on flute at the side? you like king buffalo. check out the band green lung. cheers!
Love the train! I heard Jesus and Mary Chain had a new album out. And on Fuzz Club! I will have to check it out. They passed me by a bit back in the day, but I like what I've heard. King Buffalo are new to me. They sound nice, though, and out-there vinyl! Matthew Sweet is also new to me. You can hear the REM connection. I am completely devoid of OMD. They were one of the better early 80s bands, but I was never into synth-pop. Some decent singles but I have never had the urge to buy an album. I'll pass! Nice video, Steve, thanks
I had not bought any JMC after their third album, I just moved in. This album was quite good, not as much noise as the past albums bt it was put together well I thought Andy. No OMD, I thought everyone in the UK was required to have some OMD? I guess I was misinformed.
I bet Aiden enjoyed Thomas the Tank Engine, almost more than his grandpa did, heh heh...so Jesus and Mary Chain is considered shoegaze, eh? I have explored their stuff a bit thanks to their inclusion on one of my favorite pop movie soundtracks, they're pretty good, don't have any full LPs, though. Matthew Sweet - Kim also loves the "Girlfriend" album, and he's written several songs with Taylor Hanson over the years, most notably the title track from "Underneath", which is my second favorite album of all time, and their best song EVER - it's just a technically perfect pop song from beginning to end - you should check it out. Somehow, I doubt I ever would have thought OMD was in your wheelhouse, either - they seem too poppy to me for your tastes, nice to see I would be incorrect on that one. Before you ask, I'm also almost finished in here, and a music room/production studio tour will be coming by the end of October, I'm pretty sure...I'm finally feeling pretty ok about things...heh heh...have a great week, sir! PS - have you checked out the Marcin CD i was pushing on my show yet? Heh heh...
I need to still check out Marcin TC and see what the hype is all about! I will patiently wait for that room tour but mine is rolling out this week so look out! Girlfriend by Sweet is a perfect album to me. That CD was played to death by me. It has not aged but the Earth album has definitely aged and not in a good way. With OMD I have a greatest hits as I do love their hits especially Live and Die Maybe you will become a shoegaze fan TC, time will tell
Hi Steve
Thank you for the kind words! I hope you like the mixes! Much Love and thumbs up! Trish
Huge thank you Trish for thinking of me and sending those CDs. You have been a great friend in the VC
Nothing better than a day out with Thomas !!! My kids loved that !
Anthony, it was so much fun watching my grandson. All he wants to do now is watch my videos of Thomas! The little ones are special
Loved seeing Thomas the Tank! Matthew Sweet - he is definitely one of those under-the-radar musicians.
That was a very fun with Thomas and my grandson. Great to see things through his eyes. Matthew Sweet Girlfriend album is one of my all time favorite albums Kris, a perfect album for me
There's nothing like a steam train to make a little guy happy. Nice overview of Jesus and Mary Chain. Cheers Mike 👍

King Buffalo releases their own albums so they really are not known outside the US. Hard to find their albums. It is a great example of modern day Space Rock
Hello Steve, i was looking for ideas this morning. Thanks for your contribution. I will listen to some of these ones (JAMC + OMD). Take care. Bruno
