- How do you identify synesthesia? Dr. Jamie Ward talks about different ways in which synesthesia has been identified through behavioral tasks. One method uses the higher test-retest correspondence shown by synesthetes of color names for numbers. Another method looks at early visual grouping of graphical items that is special in some synesthetes.
I don't like the way Chromesthesia is presented as the total definition of Synesthesia. They don't even mention the other types. This may be the most common type, but it's certainly not the only one.
Thank you I agree because I can feel sound as well as see it yet I haven't found a single video that talks of this form of synesthesia
And I feel+see music as light spacially around my head with sound...
@@HansHillsen1143 I can feel sound and feel a vision too, and yes there is not enough info about that at all
Ikr?
Sounds give me colour experiences and certain words have a colour and i didn't realize it was abnormal until I read the book a mango shaped space
I can invison sound waves when I listen to music.
Dear Jamie ward & Everyone. My daughter is just 17 and is at school. they just found out one week before her exams that she has Synesthesia. She was telling her maths teacher that she sees the numbers as colours. I am Dyslexic so I know what she is going through. We live in London UK, dose any one know were she can go to be tested??? PLEASE LET ME KNOW. Thanks for your help!!!
Monday-teal/torquoise
Tuesday-bright green
Wednesday-dark blue
Thursday-plum purple
Friday-fire red
Saturday-golden yellow
Sunday- kinda like sand.
I will remember these for the rest of my life.
For me: Monday - dark red, Tuesday - grass green, Wednesday - orange but pink, Thursday - dark green, Friday - blue, Saturday - yellow and Sunday it’s also sandy!
I feel the sound from my headphones in frequencies starting at my soles. Mostly lower frequencies. Is this weird?
MeatPopsycle no?
i see the colors in my minds eye. whenever i hear seven or any other number i see it utterly vivid as a light green . but sadly i dont project them :( i'm pretty sure it is real synesthesia because i've been seeing the same colors for years now i doubt it would stay the same if i didn't have it, i'm assuming? i also see images when i hear certain sounds :o
Exactly the same!!! But 7 is purple for me
@See Cass
Yess! I've mentioned this to so many people and they either think I'm crazy or just don't understand. This is how I've seen the days of the week AS LONG as I can possibly remember!
Monday: forest green
Tuesday: school bus yellow
Wednesday: dark red
Thursday: off white
Friday: blue
Saturday: dark brown
Sunday: light brown!
I have no idea why and also, every month has their own color as well as every person because of their name! Lliterally every letter of every word and all of these names show up as colors in my head depending on the very first letter of the name! Whether it be the name of the week, a person, a food or any object, it mainly depends on the first letter of the word but I can always still see the color of every letter even if it's written in black ink! Sorry for the excitement I just haven't met anyone else with this before lol.
I have spacial sequence, number form, grapheme color, sound to color, and OLP
I immediately saw the 2s but it wasnt the way he describes. When the jumble showed on the screen and the second I knew that differentiating the 2 from 5 was the task, leaning back and looking at the whole screen at once, all the fives immediately went blurry and I could see the 2s very clearly (no color change). I have 20/20 at least. Im serious with this. Why do I see it like that? the test couldnt have been easier
I associate numbers with colours but this test is not working because 2 and 5 are both green for me.
Serina Rhakasha I have graphemes colour synesthesia. And I have loads of words/numbers/letters that are the same coulors just different shades
I don't know if I definitely have synesthesia? Are there levels of it? I just have associations with colour and words, specifically with days of the week, months of the year, the numbers 0-9 and some letters. Some of them change a lot though whereas others stay the same. I don't even know lol
For me anyway, these are the days of the week:
Monday - navy or red depending on how I feel
Tuesday - orange
Wednesday - green, mainly dark green but sometimes acid green
Thursday - navy
Friday - always, always purple
Saturday - red or navy depending on how I feel
Sunday - orangey yellow
Ahh that really triggered me cuz for me it's like :
Monday : yellow
Tuesday : blue
Wednesday : brown
Thurday : Dark purple/navy
Friday : baby leaf green
Saturday : deep grey
Sunday : pink/red/yellow mix of all actually. But I agree, I don't see numbers as colours but more like see them as genders. I don't have associations with letters as colours. But also I have colours for every instrument / tune/song
thats stupid im not an idiot to say Monday is blue however i do have tinnitus and have a hearing disability so i do see sound in a physical sense not necessarily colour but i see it just like i can read lips and it reflects back to me almost asif its clear sound and i am a vinyl dj and multi instrumental musician so i disagree with these tests how would this relate to my case???
I have something like this but I can only see things and hear music.
hi
gocognitive So I don't know if I have it. I don't think I have visual but I think I have the auditory one. I remember ever since I was little my tongue will tickle and vibrate when people make farting noises I even tried covering my hears but if I hear it starts to tickle. I tried talking to others about it but no one seems to have there tongue tickle. What's even more annoying is people do it to irritate me and keep making that sound thinking its not true but it bothers me because the sensation does not go away for a while
I play music and see images not colors. I dont know what that is. Its like when Im playing for a long time all off my senses turn off and i can only hear and see places. I dont think this is the same.
😳 awesome... I can only see colors when music its on. Have the week calendar on my mind like a triangle and separate them into chambers of colors, Saturday being Purple and so. At first i thought i was crazy, since i asked people how they seemed things, but later i realized i am not. But images, cool. 😳
it is still the same thing. synesthesia is just a linking of the senses, it could be any senses. lol u a musical genius
It’s not just color. I see lines and depth. Sometimes color. Just typing this makes me try and complete a maze. In completion of the maze a sentence is formed that makes sense. Oops I shared some crap on the web again
I project colors onto numbers, days of the week, even people...
I also project colors as numbers.
I saw friendship groups in my form class at school as different colours - there was the blue group, the green group and the red group. Lol.
I have synesthesia in quite unusual ways
Wow! whether it is real, imagined or learned, synesthesia seems to personal to the individual. Even in large cluster samples there are only so many colors and sounds and repeated results becomes a statistical fact. Personal meaning if the phrase "Shark feet on Leke Way" would probably mean nothing to a lot of people except those who knew that Bob Shark ran in the wet cement without his shoes on a street called Leke Way and left an impression there for 60 years. Or as a baby you had a mobile above your bed that had red and blue numbers on it and a small square box that squeaked C# when ever someone touch it and years later you felt the association. Kobe Bryant a basketball player has a gift to play the game. But without practice (and lots of it) he would not have been as good as he is.
So my questions are, how do you become better at being synesthesia? What is better? Can I program a simple test of synesthesia in a computer; say the letter "a" always produces the sound A 440, so if a computer was reading a paragraph what would it sound like?
Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to disprove it, but merely looking at it past the point of is it real or fake or whatever. For instance a dyslexic person who sees words and letters jumbled or backwards may also have the ability to see objects the same way and with training or not, have the ability to dismantle a malfunctioning car engine and put it back together correctly with only basic mechanical skills.
Saw the twos right away -.-
I can't touch overly soft things, my arm freaks out.
You MAY have a sensory processing disorder
I can taste sounds and see sounds
moscow is maroon for me while table is green
*Monday-* Bright red, but not light. Not a dark red, either. Just clear.
*Tuesday-* Greenish blue. Bright and light, but not pastel. Strong.
*Wednesday-* Light blue. Not as bright as Tuesday, but still not pastel. Very strong, but again, not bright.
*Thursday-* Darkish green. Not forest green, but not grass green. Inbetweenish. Not dark, still strong. Not glowing, not dull.
*Friday-* Darker red than Monday, but not blood red. Strong, glowing slightly. More noticeable as "oh, that's red" than Monday, even though Monday is so obviously red.
*Saturday-* Sand. A light brown, very similar to Sunday, but darker. But it's definitely not dark.
*Sunday-* Brown. Not dark, not dull, but not the same as Saturday's brown. Similar, though. It's almost the shade of brown when you try to find a brown pencil at school, and they only have one that barely looks brown on paper, but doesn't look like any other colour. The outside of that. Mix that a little with the actual wood? Also sand. But not the texture of sand. Very different. It's smooth, like silk. Also yellow, but not visually. Just the word.
Moscow is maroon, table is green.
okay. that concludes it. i have Synesthesia >_
GAH 5 is red and 2 is green for me xD why you gotta mess me up like that.
2 would be blue for me lol (a dark one)
heh
Nicolas K lol but i wouldn't know i don't think i have synesthesia.
put some respeck on ma name there are some tests online that you can do :D although they take a while.
Write down a colour for every number/letter in a book somewhere, and one day when you remember about it in the future, take a new paper and write down the numbers/colours you see.
If you compare the two and they're the same (no cheating) then congrats :P
well there's the problem for me XD
i don't think i have it because for example you said 2 is green. for me there are multiple colors that 2 can be but some colors that *can not* be 2.
ex: 2 can be yellow, dark blue, light purple
but for me *can not* be green, red, (for me of course lol)
Did anyone else say blue when he sayd Moscow?
i have synesthesia. :D
