Would love to see more info videos on the dangers around Rottnest and how to get an out of each bay. Keen to be heading up from Mandurah on a regular basis. Your video from Fremantle to Mandurah was a great one.
Great video about anchoring. I found this after a recent horror show at thommo’s on a 40 degree February weekend. I was beach anchoring which I’ve done at rotto periodically for 25 years and I was the only one doing it correctly- anchor deep with TWO stern lines to the supplied beach anchors. 0.07 low tide I knew I had to be a long way out to stay off the bottom if leaving early in the morning. We Ended up leaving in the evening because large vessels were trying to squeeze into 1 metre wide spots and had their lines crossing our lines. The skipper’s ticket 🎫 test is farrr too easy. Before skippers ticket was what was called “small boat proficiency course” 4 weeks night school at Fremantle tafe. Now it’s just a mess on a busy weekend. We have a share boat so we couldn’t work around the weather to have a quiet weekend in shoulder season. Skippers were drunk all over the scene. I saw one passed out dead like on the sand, another throwing up on his boat. I was threatened for doing things the right way so wife and I left. Sent a complaint to rottnest island over email and will see if they get back to me. IMO with Western Australia’s population ballooning (I’m Perth born and bred) rottnest need to sort out their business and have many more rangers at high and shoulder season actually handing out serious fines to people getting it wrong because boat damage is serious business. Rant over.
