For everybody asking what he said at 4:50--- Anchor ball (or buoy) by day and all-around anchor light by night. The buoy shows others where your anchor is located so they don't hit your rode, and obviously your light lets them see your boat at night, and it should be visible from all directions. Then he basically says that if you get hit and you weren't using those, it's going to be your fault and your insurance company is not going to be happy.
Thanks. I had to play it twice still didn't get it
Single black ball by day mandatory, clearly visible all round.
Farouq Omaro me too.
Thanks man. I replayed it a couple of times and I could not understand what he say.
Thx for the explanation. Had the same problem! Thought he said your insurance company is not going to be poppy! Thought it was a British thing.
Great video, year 3 on our Fairline in Sardinia, thanks to Kieran and Mendez Marina. Needed a refresher on anchoring and the bridle technique looks great, will try it today with our 20kg Bruce anchor in 6m on a sand bed . I will subscribe and watch more videos. Everyday is a school day.
I really enjoy these how does as I’m new on the water. And in contrast to your boat reviews (which are also good and interesting) these tips for the most part also apply the boats in my price range :P
Please keep them coming.
As ever, much appreciated.
As a new boater I'm finding these How To video's genuinely useful. I'd have put up with the chain rattleing 3 feet from my head for instance.
I'm looking forward to the next installment.
anchor light at night
I had no idea about using a snubber. Not one of the boaters I know are familiar with snubbers. No one in the chandleries I’ve been to know about this. I was fortunate to stumble on this video to learn about it. Finding an anchor snubber was a challenge, but in the end I found one. We are happy owners of a Mantus anchor snubber c/w Unicorn Stainless anchor hook. Thanks Jon for the info!
Good job fellas 👍
👍Very helpful. 💝 Thank you. 🤗💞🤗
great tips
After i set the anchor i always put the engines in revers for 2000rpm and if the boat doesent move then its perfect!
Nice boat
Chain counters are very useful as you said though you need to set it to 0 when it’s at water level and not docked I have also fitted a camera to watch the anchor from the helm. Best investment ever
The anchor chain itself should be marked.
A camera to watch the anchor, or get a Yacht Controller and you can drive the boat from anywhere on the boat. More versatile than a camera + screen.
Hi John,if the wind is blowing off the shore it is a weather shore, best regards from a old sailor 😊.
Thanks.
I see by the cut of yer Jib you're near Deans Lake. Do you end up pulling 5kg of Solent mud up everytime or is it just me?
Can I moar my boat anywhere? Like is there loads of places at sea to stop without needing to anchor
John i need to ask you some questions: I m thinking of changing my windless from a horizontal to a vertical, currently i carry 40' of chain and 200' of rope with a 14lb Fluke anchor. Question: 1) can you recommend a what's the wright size and weight anchor for a 28' Luhrs with flybridge, its a heavy boat. 2) Do i need to add more chain and rope to the setup. 3) Can you recommend the vest vertical windless for the money that can work with rope and chain?.
I livecin Sardinia on smeraldo cosasti nice video especially for the rope! No one dose it...
5:20 are there laws on the horn or can I put a mondo horn on my boat?
If in doubt put more out
Sweet
I thought there was a rule that you put out a multiple of your depth in chain length ... I thought is was 8X your depth.
This type of material product for rope set up in river side and moveable
anchor board by day and anchor light at night
I didn't understand the anchor by the day or night... what does it eman?
I live 2250 Kms away from an ocean but I somehow must know how to anchor a boat
Haha, I’m with you. I don’t even own a boat.
What was that anchor ball by day and what by night?
I find the anchor often comes up upside down. How do I avoid this happening?
What boat is this
What model boat is this? Thank you
❓Does anyone know exactly what kind / make / model / name / size of the boat / yacht used in this demo?
Azimut 43' Atlantis
I'd like to hear him do Cockney rhyming slang with Mike Myers...
"first you need a plan" and that starts WAY before any of this..
What boat is that?
I believe its a fairline
Azimut Atlantis 43
Better anchor length formula is
15m + 2*depth
CAN YOU PLEASE REPEAT THE SECTION WHERE YOU MENTION ANCHORING BY DAY & BY NIGHT ITS THE LAW & IF YOUER HIT YOUR INSURANCE WILL WRIGGLE THANK YOU 04:51 Thank You
I think he said your insurance company will rid you. I suppose that's slang for cancel your policy.
Heaving not winching.
Anchors are heaved not winched.
😩Does anyone know what he said @ 4:50-5:00?😩
Anchor ball at night on your line or else if you get hit your insurance company will have a kitten
Whats the name of this boat?
It's an Azimut Atlantis 43 - we did a first look vid of her at the 2015 Dusseldorf Boat show: ruclips.net/video/SFVYKN9HEnY/видео.html
I want learn how to anchor a helicopter using ropes.
Anyone know what boat that is?
I couldn't quit pick up what you were saying (your accent) at 4.51 something about anchoring by day and anchoring by night, braking the law
david Bate Yes! I agree with you and I used earbuds the second & third time, "something by day & something by night it's the law" would be nice to know what was said as the word "Law" strikes fear into me and I'm watching these videos to help out a friend who's just bought a boat!
Its about a anchor buoy and an anchor light by night
@@alexanderkamerbeek9693 Thank you I didn't understand this part too. Are anchor buoy and anchor light mandatory in UK? I think here in Spain they aren't.
@@joviap1 i know they are required in the netherlands too, but people dont use them too often where they should.
@@alexanderkamerbeek9693 It's not "anchor buoy", it's "anchor ball", at the bow of the boat, usually from a flagstaff or similar on a motor boat.
Traducete in italiano.
Bronze 🏅😂
I think i actually lost some anchoring knowledge watching this video
Heavy accents. Too hard to understand.
To much unecessary talk...
