For everybody asking what he said at 4:50--- Anchor ball (or buoy) by day and all-around anchor light by night. The buoy shows others where your anchor is located so they don't hit your rode, and obviously your light lets them see your boat at night, and it should be visible from all directions. Then he basically says that if you get hit and you weren't using those, it's going to be your fault and your insurance company is not going to be happy.

Great video, year 3 on our Fairline in Sardinia, thanks to Kieran and Mendez Marina. Needed a refresher on anchoring and the bridle technique looks great, will try it today with our 20kg Bruce anchor in 6m on a sand bed . I will subscribe and watch more videos. Everyday is a school day.

I really enjoy these how does as I’m new on the water. And in contrast to your boat reviews (which are also good and interesting) these tips for the most part also apply the boats in my price range :P
    Please keep them coming.

    As ever, much appreciated.
As a new boater I'm finding these How To video's genuinely useful. I'd have put up with the chain rattleing 3 feet from my head for instance.
I'm looking forward to the next installment.

I had no idea about using a snubber. Not one of the boaters I know are familiar with snubbers. No one in the chandleries I’ve been to know about this. I was fortunate to stumble on this video to learn about it. Finding an anchor snubber was a challenge, but in the end I found one. We are happy owners of a Mantus anchor snubber c/w Unicorn Stainless anchor hook. Thanks Jon for the info!

Chain counters are very useful as you said though you need to set it to 0 when it’s at water level and not docked I have also fitted a camera to watch the anchor from the helm. Best investment ever

A camera to watch the anchor, or get a Yacht Controller and you can drive the boat from anywhere on the boat. More versatile than a camera + screen.

John i need to ask you some questions: I m thinking of changing my windless from a horizontal to a vertical, currently i carry 40' of chain and 200' of rope with a 14lb Fluke anchor. Question: 1) can you recommend a what's the wright size and weight anchor for a 28' Luhrs with flybridge, its a heavy boat. 2) Do i need to add more chain and rope to the setup. 3) Can you recommend the vest vertical windless for the money that can work with rope and chain?.
