So sick! Thank you for giving us an opportunity at an amazing product and giving us great content! winning this kit would be a constant reminder of all the hard work you put in to win your ADCC gold! Stay dangerous! 👊🏽
Comming back from a loss i like to re-watch my footage and see what mistakes i made, then get back into the gym and work on those mistakes by either working from a bad position or stopping myself from getting in a bad position to start with
👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks Professor. For always being there and helping us study Jiu Jitsu better. 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️
So helpful to hear your thoughts on this, applicable to competitors or hobbyists. Thanks, Giancarlo. Your pedagogy is applicable so much more widely than BJJ but really for all skill development.
Love the content so much keep it up, its a true blessing to have found your channel !
great channel & content & thanks for the opportunity to win a giveaway! looking forward to learning more from you how i can improve my game!!
Thank you for the tips. Losing isn’t easy on the mind and heart. But using your 4 steps makes a logical process, removing the emotions of it so we can learn and grow!
I want in on the giveaway as well bro!🙏🏽🙏🏽
Medium dangerous future rash guard 😍🤙🏽
Reflecting on the strong points and weaknesses in your performance is a reasonable path to improvement. I'm glade you mentioned the tactical element , since if we get into a difficult situation in BJJ, it is very difficult to reverse engineer certain positions. In fact, getting out of a position can wear you out. Thanks for the content. Cheers.
Fantastic advice! Keep killing it champ! I would like to enter the giveaway!
Honestly I counted you out for ADCC leading up to it, I was so impressed by you and your ability to overcome the losses and the haters to win gold! Super impressive and you have a new fan! Would love to enter the giveaway, FUTURE is my favorite brand and love all their stuff!!!!
Excellent work! Very excited for more and definitely interested in the give away
“giveaway” exactly the way you laid it out. Once emotions clear rewatch match. Take notes and then drill & do situational rounds in the gym to fix the problem!
great stuff. looking back my losses were always tough to deal with in the beginning but lead to allot of growth in the long run. at some point you've got to take the emotion out of things and do a precise analysis of what went wrong and come up with a plan to fix things. love the giveaway kits
100000% interested in the giveaway. Love future kimonos, the dangerous kit is awesome 🔥
Generally when I lose a match i fixate on what I did wrong and what I could have done better, then go back and try to fix whatever I was doing to correct my shortcomings.
I have learned a lot from your videos, thank you for your time! 🙏
Interested in the giveaway!
And great points, thank you! Especially disconnecting from the emotional feeling of the loss. That's a hard one.
“Giveaway”. My best advice to bounce back from a loss is to view it as a way to learn, a way to reflect on your weaknesses, if you don’t lose you were never trying in the first place. Head up and move on. Train hard and bounce back. Love you bro
"Giveaway"... I like to watch the match footage and pick 1-3 things to focus on in positional sparring. Living the channel! The new video with rolling footage is awesome to see
Keep bringing us these bangers man! I’ve been keeping up with you for a while, found this channel a few months ago and was happy to see you were uploading again. I really appreciate this video as well as your “how to improve faster”, they’re very insightful, especially coming from an ADCC champ.
And heck yeah I want to enter the giveaway. Gimmie that dangerous rash guard. 😂
Giveaway~ I believe a set back or loss is a set up for a comeback. It’s starts with mind set. Believe in yourself and constantly seek to get better.
So glas you’re doing this giveaway these kits are absolutely sick💯🥋
One of my wise coaches said “you dont lose. you either learn or win.” and i think thats very true, When i suffer a loss i dedicate my time to learning from it and improving.
🙏🏼
I'd love to enter!
Great videos recently, the topics have been super helpful!
Giveaway
I have a simple approach to competition loses (it is more or less the same after a win, minus step 1)
1) Accept the defeat, but do not dwell on it.
2) Identify the errors I made that lead to the loss.
3) Identify the things I did well (it's important for me to not focus entirely on the negatives, plus there is always room for improvement).
4) Take the techniques/positions that I have identified I need to improve on to the training room. Ask my coach and upper belts for advice and guidance, then practice what I have learnt to build my confidence and improve my game.
5) Bring my improved game to the next competition.
Good strategy.
Thank you for this professor! =)
I want to enter the competition! very informative video thanks!!
Your channel has helped me alot! I learn from my past losses from first realizing what mistakes were made and work on those. Then after about a week or so I rewatch my matches and work on the smaller details that I couldve done better technically and then after about another week i watch again tonsee what I could have done better tactically depending on the ruleset, also see at what point I got tired to work on conditioning lol. and Super interested in the giveaway!!
Stoked for the giveaway
Competing for me is still pretty new so a win for me is not whether or not I won the gold, but a win is stepping on and off the mats much calmer and in control in the competition setting. The adrenaline dump is a more dangerous opponent than the man standing in front of you. If you can overcome that hurdle then you have the clarity and confidence to impose your game on the other guy who may not be as calm and collected.
I’ve been working on this aspect a lot lately for competition instead of just focusing on winning with no real game plan and it’s been helping immensely. Win or lose, I am coming forward much more calm everytime and my performance is improving comp to comp. When my mind is clear I feel like i have more time to think in the exchanges and can make calculated decisions as opposed to panicking and creating openings for the other guy. So win or lose to me at the moment isn’t the only measure of achievement, I’m first trying to win the battle against myself which I’m getting incrementally closer and closer to everytime
We are our own biggest opponent. Keep it up
Cool vid, cool possible rashguard!
Hi Giancarlo! This is Francesco, your best supporter from Italy🇮🇹 Hope to be selected for this super giveaway!
Stay strong brother , we support you from day 1
Grazie Mille!
GIVEAWAY
Everything comes down to analyze, in a thoughtful manner, how or why you have lost the match. Everything in this video is great, now we have to do it. Put those ideas and strategies to work. Words and ideas need to be materialized in the real world. We have to do it. We have to prioritize, and be able to know how much time and effort we put into each of the components of the sport: technique, strategy, physical attributes and abilities. What are the strongest and weakest points in our game? And finally ask for help and put it to the test on the mats (or wherever you need to improve)
Wonderful video, and love the giveaway!
I started training only around 8 months ago, and have competed twice. I really love your ADCC run and how you literally became one of the most dangerous guys in the tournament. I’m trying to get better and style my play like you.
Thanks for the content, and keep killing it🐍
Giveaway
Coming back from a loss I typically start by reviewing my matches myself and take note of the mistakes I made and also what was successful. Then I'll have a teammate or Coach who's opinion I value and know they will give me honest feedback review the matches and compare notes. Then it's straight to the mat to work on the individual techniques or tactics that cost me the match. I find it easiest to do alot of situational work on the areas I'm trying to fix.
Giveaway
I take defeat like a lesson. It shows me my weaknesses, what I should work on, what I should strengthen in my technique and is the motivation for me to train harder.
Giveaway. After a loss I like to focus my time in the gym on whatever it was that caused me to lose the match. If it was a sweep that I couldn't hit work on that sweep. If i was caught in a submission work through the mistakes that allowed me to be caught etc.
Thanks for video Mr. Bodoni, topic is super relatable for me, as in my last match I discovered that, I hade problems to cover the distance and footwork overall(I compete in mma) Will glad to join "Giveaway" as we'll
Definitely interested in the giveaway!
I like to focus on what I could’ve done better to prepare, what I might have missed/neglected, and re-evaluate my strengths and weaknesses and whether or not I was able to impose my game like I wanted.
Giveaway. And now onto a favorite subject of mine. As far as losses, I try not to look at them as a loss and more of a piece of information I gathered. That's how I see competitions, sure the medals and bragging rights are cool. But my main goal is to get better, not so much beat people. However, if that means beating people, that's what ill do, but if that also means losing to improve my game that's something I'm going to have to do. Just put my ego aside, lose, and get better from it. As far as methodology I will look at the footage maybe 10 minutes after the match, I don't tend to get emotional so it's not a problem for me. Love the content!!! Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the Video! You have definitely been a huge inspiration to my jiu-jitsu and I’m really grateful to hear such a high level grappler talk about these things (as not many do)
I recently entered a competition, won my first match by submission, second match lost by an advantage and third match had my arm popped in an armbar.
Just wondering how you managed to come back after your knee injury, how you structured your training / rehab as I’m finding it frustrating being unable to train and was wondering what your advice is, as I’m sure there are others who have experienced the same thing and need some help (maybe a future video?)
Anyways thanks again, definitely interested in entering the ‘GIVEAWAY’ keep doing you and hope to train with you someday🔥💪🏽
Interested in the giveaway, as always excited to see what you do next
🙏🏼
Love giveaway !! I think I will prepare more in my mental game, to take the loss as part of the process and look for improvement instead of focusing on the loss ❤
I want to participate in the giveaway! Also congrats on your channel's growth. I've been learning from your videos for a few years now and they're always super useful.
I’d like to enter the contest!! Kits are awesome!
Losing sucks, but it doesn’t define me or what my friends and training partners think of me. Just having the courage to get on the mats is a win to me.
Interested in the giveaway, would love a great set to compete in. Thank you for the helpful advice as well!
Definitely interested in the giveaway. Super dope set. Also been loving these videos on how to improve my game and the steps you have us take.
Me personally after a loss I do feel mad in the moment. But then realize that I will improve from that loss and can get better after realizing my mistakes.
🙏🏼
Interested in the giveaway! Love the new kit. Great quality.
Giveaway
After a loss I find the best way is to address the weaknesses and work on what you done wrong by putting yourself in this positions during training and work your way out of those positions
👍🏼
Give away - understanding why and how I lost and working on my weaknesses to make them become strengths. Exactly how you did it
Very nice!
Thanks for the video and giveaway. I’ll remember your advice next time I suffer a loss.
Giveaway entry:
What I like to do coming back from any sort of loss (in competition or generally underperforming in the gym):
I'll look at my rolling and try to find 2 key areas that would have made the biggest difference and seek out technical help on those. The worse I did overall, the more broad, basic, and principally-oriented thing I'll work on. For example something broad might be overall posture while wrestling or gripping sequences or flanking angles when passing. If I performed better, the focus might be much more detailed and smaller; i.e. submission finishing details or other sequences that I could have entered or a small detail that stopped an almost successful guard pass.
I'll find the techniques, sequences, drills, and positional fighting exercises that address the gap, drill and focus on them for no less than 3 months. Why only 2 things? I generally find less is more; if you try to fix everything you did wrong in a match, it's easy to make no progress at all.
“Giveaway” well said! I like to identify my mistakes and drill and practice next training session. I have to be honest with myself and address the holes in my game/match. Some matches I have been more emotional then others when I felt like I didn’t perform to my potential and made simple mistakes that were costly.
Hey man, great video. Would love to join the giveaway.
Losing sucks but I certainly agree that seeing things emotionally detached helps a ton. Just another problem to solve!
I'd love to join the giveaway.
I definitely agree that looking at things emotionally detached/objectively helps, especially with a coach or someone else.
Giveaway! One thing that has help me improve after my losses or any match is having my coaches and mentors review the footage with me and pointing out things I did well and things to improve on, it often helps having another perspective. Thanks for the video as always!
Yes for sure. Always helps having more eyes. I agree
Giveaway -
In training I really don’t like getting submitted. So to work on letting go, and letting my game be as technical as possible. I work on submission escapes. I get training partners I trust to help me work on my escapes, and control me without risk of injury. Putting myself in situations where I’m supposed to lose helps me let go, so I don’t play overly conservative. Another thing that helps is running experiments in situational training, that way I can try new ideas without feeling upset about making mistakes, and instead learn from them.
I’d like to be entered into the giveaway!
Always enjoy the content you post. Super surprised that you haven’t went mega viral yet. You have some of the best videos on the tube.
Thanks bro
Like you said, work on the mistakes in practice so you change it from a weakness to a strength. Also add some mental envisioning of doing the moves correct.
Thanks for the content! I want to enter in the giveaway as well!
Giveaway:
Loving this content you're putting out man, excited for more in the future,
I'm interested in the giveaway.
A friend sent me the documentary about you and I've been binge-watching everything about your jiu-jitsu journey. Thanks for the high quality content on your channel! 🤠
This is great Giancarlo, thank you.
For me the most important thing to come back from a loss, is to study the lost match and train on those specific points.
Would love to join the giveaway please.
I agree. That’s important
Love your work. Super helpful. & We got the same name
When i lose i always remember that my lost doesn't define me As a loser athlete. You can always try again doing your best and trying to correct your mistakes. I would love to participate to the giveaway, those kit are awesome! Hope to get one🔥🔥🔥
Well said!
Giveaway
Great video man
After losing:
- Rewatch film
- Troubleshoot issues had in the match with your respective coach
- Positional rounds to address the holes in your game during the match
Giveaway
I’m somewhat new to BJJ and this is something I’ve been dealing with in the training room. I’ll definitely be using the 4 steps in the future! I love the advice, please keep these types of videos coming!
I will. Thanks for the feedback and keep it ip
Giveaway. This last year I have started to take losses in a different way. I allow myself to be bummed for 5 min and then I think about my mistakes and how I need to improve. Great video!
Id like to participate in the giveaway:) Llve the instructionals. Thank you very much!
Giveaway! (note the future kimonos channel link you stuck in your description doesn't work for me but I still subbed to them)
Whenever I lose I try to identify the techniques I needed/failed applying and drill them as quickly as possible afterwards so I can immediately start applying them in the training room. I don't particularly like competing and I certainly don't like losing but I like the feeling of progression in the gym so I find it a great motivator for helping me level up my game!
Giveaway
Very interesting. Thank you for your thoughts about losing. Already It helped me with my recent loss :) Now Im watching my own tape with a little bit less excitement. 🙂
Giveaway seems really cool, I usually just go back and watch instructional videos and work on major mistakes, especially if they occurred multiple times. Sometimes I will work on the mistakes once I finished the topic i was working on prior to the match/matches
Giveaway - Great advise and mindset regardless of the situation.
Would love to join the giveaway. (the new Dangerous kit is amazing)
My favourite thing is to remind myself that my bjj level is not something that is set, but rather something that can significantly change in a rather short period of time. Keeping that in mind, acquiring as much new knowledge as possible is how I try to move on.
Would love to enter the give away!
You are a weapon 💪
Rewatched my no gi matches from earlier this month with these points in mind. Thanks for that.
Would love to be entered in the giveaway. Just subscribed to Future.
I’d like to join the giveaway! Thank you for all the advice youve given us in this video. Big fan! 👏🏽
Anytime!
Giveaway - the best thing to overcome a loss is to just let go. Not saying forget it ever happened but to let go of the emotion, the feeling doubt, failure, regret. Realize that it’s okay to lose and that MANY people do so don’t take it personal. Once you have a clear head, come back into that memory of losing with a learners mentality. Think about what you did good on, what could you work on to get better, how to improve your game. Don’t think about I should’ve done this or I suck at that. You need to think of the entirety of the loss as a positive. Then you can learn from it and move on.
Dope kit
Great tips "giveaway"
Entering for the giveaway.
I rarely compete but when I get submitted by something that I think I have no business getting caught in (some new setup/entry, a novelty submission, new form of control I wasn't familiar with, etc), I get obsessive and try to learn both the offense and defense to that move so I dont ever get caught in it again. I feel like it works decently for me.
I love to be in the giveaway. After a loss I review the footage to see where I went wrong and I try and remember why I made the decisions is did. Then of course back to the gym to build the skills necessary to fix the problem.
“Giveaway” coming back from losses I like to start in bad positions and try to get better working through those. It’s also good to let the mind re set I feel versed rushing right back into training. Great content as always thank you.
Please enter for giveaway.
Want to enter the give away. Thanks for your instruction!
Great video definitely much needed insights on the topic. Thank You!! (I would like to be entered into the giveaway 😁)
Commenting for the giveaway! Hoping to win! When I have a loss I usually don't review the footage for a few days, or at least till I'm emotionally ready. I have a hard time losing and letting that feeling of failure pass helps when I later focus on my mistakes. Also heads up, don't think your Future Kimonos link is working but I did subscribe!
Giveaway! I like dealing with loses by using them as a learning experience. It’s easy to get caught up with the frustration of losing, but in reality losing/failing is necessary to learn and get better. So I analyze what went wrong, and then decide to work on the things that I am weak, which ultimately makes this losing experience a valuable lesson
Giveaway... usually I'll have someone record my matches. This makes it easy to go over the footage and see what went wrong and what I need to work on for future matches.
Giveaway.
After my loss I would reflect on what lead to the loss. Examine mindset and what technical shortcomings I had. I would try and put myself in similar situations in the training room to what led to the loss and try to work my way out. Starting at little to no resistance and working to full sparring. Thanks for the content
Giveaway, For me personally the best way is to sit down and analyze the mistakes made. Then to workout plan to either patch the holes if I played my game or enforce my game upon my opponent. I also try to get into the same position when the shift happened and work from there.
I want in on the giveaway!
I find filming matches and analysing them soon after helps to look back on what happend, while still remembering why you did what you did in the particular position where something went wrong. Afterwards, look for the best people in these positions and try to learn from them
Good strategy!
i want to be part of the giveaway. Really learned a lot from your channel, thanks for posting the content 🙏
Coach great way to explain dealing with failure. I have always had the thought process of failure is part of life, to fear failure is to is a great way to never achieve success. To never know failure, then one will never truly enjoy success. My rule when i fail is allow no more than 72 hours of dwelling, another 72 hours to analyze, fix the issues and then move forward.
I would also be honored to be entered for a chance to win a kit.
#giveaway
Giveaway!
Beautiful looking kit, thanks for entering me. If I don't get picked then how I will come back from that loss is enter into the next giveaway and everyone thereafter until I am victorious.
Giveaway. My advice to bounce back from a loss is to get back to the basics. Add the lesson learned from defeat to your arsenal and get back in the fight!
Giveway
To me finding someone who doesn't have an emotional attachment to the match is helpful when breaking down match footage. I'm lucky enough to have coaches like that.
GIVEAWAY!
I like to see losses as a thing set in stone. Cornerstones of the path for me to become truly great. I dont get bummed out too much, I accept, root out the thing that I could do better and continue. Causality in motion, accept and roll. Helped me a lot in dealing with anxiety and ego.
Love your rashguard and would really like one! 🎉
Lmao my favorite way to come back from a loss in a round robin or double elimination is getting that next sub. But in all seriousness though I love just focusing on the details of how to work in the areas I got stuck in or had problems with based off my film.
Thank you for the content. Really has helped my front headlock/turtle attacking concepts.
Thanks for the content and congrats on reaching the subscriber goal! And I would like to be included in the amazing giveaway!
Would love to be part of the giveaway! Just got the new Gi's released and absolutely love it and have been training with it more often than my others. I guess I'm one of those who doesn't deal with the losses quite easily and wait for a few weeks before watching my footages. Although I can say every time I do watch a competition of mine I level up by knowing what to work on more
“Giveaway” - I like to review match footage with my teammates so we can identify mistakes and places to improve then drill it in the gym. Love the Chanel Giancarlo it’s been a huge help and we all appreciate top level competitors taking time out of their day to help us. :D
