HARD DOUBLES: 11 ALWAYS 10 against anything less than 10 9 against Dealer 3-6 DO NOT double 8 or less, because even 18s are not quite good enough in Blackjack
@@the_boss2194 Dealer 7 or higher, you must do what the house does (on most tables) - Hit THRU Soft 17 because the dealer is more likely to beat your stiff hand than he is to bust if you stand, so therefore there is more pressure on you to hit and it is statistically the correct move. Dealer 2-6 are known as "bust cards" because they don't really go well with anything, create stiff hands, and therefore make the dealer statistically more likely to bust, so you would not hit your stiff hand (Hard 12 or higher) against any of these dealer bust cards and risk busting before the dealer does. **Exceptions** On tables where "Dealer hits thru Soft 17" Hit Hard 12 vs Dealer 2 and 3 Soft 18 vs Dealer 9, 10, Ace
SOFT DOUBLES (for "Dealer hits thru Soft 17" rules with four or more decks): To be done only vs "bust cards" (Dealer 2 - 6) As you can see, Dealer 6 is the strongest bust card for the player given the number of hands we double against it. If the dealer does indeed have a Hard 16 to hit, 8 out of the 13 possible ranks of cards will bust the dealer! One dealer told me long ago, "If you see a Dealer 5 or Dealer 6 up-card, get as much money on that table as you can!" Vs Dealer 6: Soft 13 - Soft 19 Vs Dealer 5: Soft 13 - Soft 18 Vs Dealer 4: Soft 15 - Soft 18 Vs Dealer 3: Soft 17 - Soft 18 Vs Dealer 2: Soft 18 ONLY
When playing double up black jack, the only way you'll win is to always double up when you have the correct cards. The dealer sitting on 16 is a great advantage for the house.
PSA to beginner Blackjack players: Doubling is not something that only "aggressive/risky gamblers" or thrill-seekers do. It is an IMPORTANT part of the game. You are capitalizing on your strong hand vs the dealer's weak hand. Likely to win, you now have a chance to double your bet. If you do not double when you should, do not even bother sitting down at the table because you cannot hope to beat the house edge. Under standard 6-deck tables where Blackjack pays 3 to 2, even using PERFECT Basic Strategy moves, you slash the house edge down to approximately 0.67%. Winning your doubles gives you the bankroll you will need to endure negative runs of the deck. Do not give them any more edge than necessary! You gotta come after them while the getting is good and make that money!
You can do what's known as 'doubling for less.' If you bet $25, and, say, you only have $15 left but want to double down, you may bet just the $15. In most cases, you're giving up some of your advantage over the house when you do that, which is why casinos allow it...
You can always double down on your first 2 cards the dealer deals you. But it's smart just to double down on 9,10, and 11 6 on what the dealer is showing
Kurt Thomsen My local casino. Does. There started a new game. Lets say u get deal 20 u can then double ur bet but take no car with the bet being that u will beat the dealer The catch is the dealer can stick on 16 and if the dealer hits 16 all bets stand. U dont win but u dont lose. Its a new concept and i defo do better that that game. Ur double on any 18 19 or 20 when the dealer has 4 5 or 6.
Also if u do ur double bet and take no card u dont lose ur double bet if the dealer turns blackjack so if u have 20 and the dealer has an ace u might as well go for it because if he turns a pictyre u dont lose that double but u obviously lose ur oringinal bet that u put out
I completely agree with you, he doesn't define where the dealer goes from "weak" to "strong" which for new players can be ambiguous if they don't do their research. But from what I have seen of these videos they are a primer for how to play, not a full guide. I think they are just meant to get the general ideas in a new player's head so that when they do start doing more research into basic strategy they understand the concepts.

Why do you say "up to" his original bet ?
Can you put a lower amount down ?

Yes you can. If the original bet is 100, you can "double" with 50 if you want to.
He didn't explain jack
If ya dont know now Ya know???
Lay off the smokes bro!
I thought you had to have a 9, 10, or 11 in order to double down. How does the middle player double down with an ace and a 6?
you can double down on ANY two original cards.
Because soft hand doubles are a part of the game as well. See my post above with the listing.

if you have a great hand ( like 20 ) can you double down and take NO card ??

You don't "always" want to double a ten. You don't even always want to double eleven. It depends on the rules.
