Peter McKinnon yeah I use it when I don't want to have to sit and colour correct much as it's vibrant and looks good for coming straight out of the camera
I've done this with my t3i and can get the colors to look great with a simple s curve. But when I try this with my go pro hero 4 black, I can't get to colors back at all? Any help?

I really love how enthusiastic you are about all of that photography and filmmaking stuff, you defintely are an enrichment for the scene on RUclips. Greetings from Germany
It's been 5 months since I started my journey as a developing cinematograhper with the recently-released Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6k and I've never been able to fully understand log footage. Peter, you've helped me greatly, my friend. Many thanks from a 22-year-old down in Orlando. Hope to cross paths one day!
Hey Peter just wanted to thank you so much for all the hard work you do teaching us and inspiring us. Too often it goes unnoticed:) have a dope day and keep working hard man.
Thanks for explaining the idea behind Log profiles. I saw so many videos and never understood when they said captures hightlights and shadows. i assumed every picture has to have them both. thanks a tonne. really.
OMG, I've just arrived home and on my way back, I was thinking why it's much better to edit low exposure manual shots than the good exposed automatic ones, and then there is Pete's video video!! wohhooooo thanks man :D
Its phenomenal how your channel has grown When I had subbed you , you literally had 30k and after a few days I could not believe that you had reached 100k You have taught me a loottt Congratulations in advance for 1M!!!
Hey Peter! I don't know if your considered this but I would love a video that explains everything that you need to know when shooting. The shutter speeds/iso/apeture/different frames example: 1/50 (I think that's right?). Keep up the good work!
GassedUpUK Thanks! And I am using the Canon 80d. Just got it a week ago and it's my first dslr so I'm trying to figure out the best way to record video.
Thumbs up for 4.5 minute Tuesday! Color profiling is what I need help with the most. I spend so much time calibrating on my videos. Didn't know about log. I'll definitely try it out!
Man, been a news camera/editor since 2000, just bought a canon r8 as my personal camera. Log is new to me, and this vid totally explained it. I’m always refining my craft…and your enthusiasm makes it fun to keep learning. Cheers my friend. Can’t wait to take my new r8 for a spin in Log!
Well if you don't have a log log profile in your camera just choose a standard/natural/neutral picture profile. Reduce sharpening to the minimum amount possible. Reduce contrast to the minimum amount possible. Reduce saturation a bit (you still want to retain some color and not go completely monochrome). Super easy!
For me it doesn't work, I am setting all of that to -4 (the lowest) and it's a LITTLE less colorful than it was when everything was set to 4. plz help...
What I want to know is, do you always shoot in a higher frame rate (60fps, 120fps, etc) just in case you want to do slow mo. Or are you changing your settings constantly between 24fps and higher frame rates? Would love to know! Thanks
This is a great tutorial. Entertaining, short, detailed how-to, detailed why to do this, etc. I'm so glad that I found your channel, and subscribed. Thank you for sharing. Much appreciated.
Hi Peter, your energy is insane..coffee-fueled or not. Don't stop. EVER! I've only been following a few weeks and have been inspired to take as many pics as possible, play with Post-Production apps, shoot video, fly a drone, etc. etc. I might have to go out and buy a camera!! If only I had money. ANY money! BUGGER! In the meantime, thanks for the excellent vlogs, the common-sense opinion, simplified tech info and Lr and Ps tutorials. Love it all.

Picture profiles is something that everyone needs. Thank you for putting alot of your thoughts and knowledge into your videos. today i took your advise and going to color grade in post. Hope to meet you somewhere in the world.
Hey Peter! I just recently got a C-log profile for my 1DX Mark II. I was wondering, do you have to shoot at a higher exposure than normal to get the most out of the c-log profile? I'm kind of lost and don't really know what the technicalities are to shooting in log format. I'd appreciate the tips a ton, thanks a lot!
It's basically a custom picture profile that you download and import to one of your user defaults that is suppose to replicate the flatness of a log picture profile.

If you're shooting JPEG, the picture profile will determine how your photos turn out so it's advisable to change them according to the subject. If you're shooting RAW, it won't have any impact on the RAW file, however, it will make a difference when you preview your images in camera and it will probably also influence the histogram as it is based on the JPEG rendition of the image.
