I used to always process my RAW files. Now I found the picture styles to make really good jpg photos in camera and the video looks really good too. Makes it easy to not have to edit so much.
Whatttt!!!! Dude! Thank you. I've been shooting Fuji since 2015 starting with the x100 because I love the color profiles of the jpegs. I still have my Canon 5D classic that's been on a shelf for God knows how long. I was gonna sell it but now that I know you can do this I need to take the 5D out and try it. Thank you thank you!
@@DavidFlowerOfficial yea..a bit of google-ing and it seems like only EOS Utility Version 1.x supports the 5d classic, but that version is no longer supported and has been taken down from the canon website a while ago. If you can find that software, maybe from an old CD that came with the camera, then the software only works with windows XP, so you'd need to run a VM or something haha.
Wow, that’s a lot 😂 The 400d is only about 1 year newer than the 5d too and works fine on the eos utility on win11. Well at least you can enjoy the classic 5d as is.
Thank You Man! I love shooting film but it's so damn expensive to get developed, you just save me a bunch of money. You can't tell the difference, between this and the real thing, you are the man!
i have the canon SL2. This isnt working for me. I have the usb connected to camera and in manual mode and i've got the latest version of eos utility but it doesnt look anything like yours so i cant follow.
I'm guessing most Canon shooters don't even know about these film simulations. I didn't. (BTW, thanks for the video and information.) I thought FujiFilm was the only digital camera that did that. I'm highly interested in videos on Canon's proprietary post-processing software that comes with every camera. I've literally only seen TWO videos on RUclips about it. If this is something you know about or use, it would be great to see you do a video on it. (This is the first video I've seen of your channel; it just popped into my feed a few minutes ago...when I was searching out FILM CAMERA VIDEOS. Ha ha.)
I haven't used Canon's software, but I'll definitely look into it. I was a Nikon shooter for a decade before switching to Sony so all this Canon stuff is pretty new to me. Thanks for watching 🖖
I am very curious how these emulations work. If its a just a gain adjustment for each channel, or maybe a bit more sophisticated with black levels, highlight thresholds or even gamma adjustment.
My apologies, but I don't see nuch difference, if any at all. With Fuji, there is a distinct look that gets baked in the jpegs. These profiles are way too subtle. I suppose some side by side shots with and without the profiles would demonstrate the effect better. I have tried some on my R6. Same result. I used an XT4 before. The recipes were far far stronger and obvious.
Yeah the ones I chose were subtle, but honestly it’s not something I’d ever use since shooting raw offers the most flexibility for work in post. I just thought it was something that folks might find useful. Thanks for watching 🖖
First I’d heard of this, too! Thanks for sharing. I have an EOS M10 and the process with EOS Utility was slightly different. From the main screen select Camera Settings, from the next select Register Picture Style File. Otherwise the process is the same. Also, the VW pack now has 154 profiles, in case you search for the number in the video and can’t find it :)
@@DavidFlowerOfficial I should also have said that I did update to the latest version of EOS Utility first (because mine didn’t have Remote Shooting on the main screen). :)
Adobe colour is just the colour space that Lightroom uses instead of srgb that your camera records in, it’s just a broader colour spectrum and If you shoot in raw, the presets aren’t baked into the files anyway. They only work for JPEGs and video👍
thanks for the video! got these uploaded to my camera no problem. one question. how did you get the cinestyle preset? doesn't seem to come on the package
Thanks for watching. The Cinestyle profile comes directly from Technicolor’s website. Just search Technicolor Cinestyle and it should be one of the first results 🖖
I don’t know if the new mirrorless models have this in them but if they still use the Eos utility and have custom profiles it’s worth testing. I don’t have any Eos R cameras at the moment so I can’t test it myself 🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial I just have a 16 years old EOS 450D and I want to replace this camera with a R10. I don‘t think, that the film simulation works on the 450D.

Hey, apologies. I thought I’d already answered this. I use windows pc and when you go to the eos utility download page you get a message saying it’s not supported for win 11 and the 400d. To get around this you need to download eos utility 2.9.0 by just telling it you’re running win7 32bit. It’s the one I use on win 11 and it works perfectly. I also have a later version from 2014 for my other canon cameras and the pc just detects the camera I plug in and launches the correct version🖖
It is not as good as Olympus or Fuji but seemed usable. Can I do this with EOS Utility 2 compatible cameras or newer Utility 3 compatible cameras only?
This video is quite old now and I wasn’t aware the site was gone. I’m not sure of another site specifically but if you check out Thomas Fransson, he talks about all kinds of picture profiles and even makes his own so perhaps you’ll find something there 🖖
I no longer have the 40d so I can’t test it, but they work on the 400d with an older version of the eos utility so I suspect it will work since the 40d is a slightly newer model 🖖
I’m not sure about the eos M cameras, but I suspect if they can connect to the EOS utility and have the user defined slots available it could be possible 🖖
Hey! I’m not sure if you’ve figured out the issue yet, but you need to have the dial on the camera set to manual mode in order to click ‘ok’. If it’s set to auto, you won’t be able to click the button :)
Haha angry drivers over there as well, huh? Those profiles look pretty cool David, nice little tutorial on how to get them onto your Canon camera. Cool video and images around the movie set. Loved that old car! Best image for me was the skeleton in the window, loved that one! Great stuff as always mate! Hope all is well, have a great week!

I expect the 3 slots is just a part of the cameras software. It might be possible to have more with something like magic lantern, but the last time I tried it on the 6d is was unstable as hell so I’m in no hurry to try it again 🖖
I had to go back to a super old version of the eos utility circa 2006 for it to work on my 400d. Since I made this video I’ve had a lot of comments like yours so I might make an updated version because even the profiles I mention in this one don’t seem to be available anymore

Is it somehow possible to make such profiles for canon g9/10? Or how to achieve film effect on canon g9/10 camera?
I’m not sure if it’s possible to get picture profiles on those cameras. My approach with the G10 is to shoot Raw and then edit afterwards.
