If you want to solo then just practice pentatonics religiously for like 2 weeks and you'll get fast.
me too man i would say my rythm skills are decent and my solo skills are almost none existant but even worse is that my bandmate thinks he can solo but he's even worse than me but he won't come to his senses even if i tell him 50 million times he just doesn't care XD

Learn a scale. As long as you can vibrate the string into some kind of falsetto, you will sound like Dime bag for at least %20 of the solo.

I feel for rhythm guitarists because they end up playing one of 3 riffs an entire song until their hands cramp and they get less recognition than the bass player xD it must be hard as fuck.
Honestly, I love rhythm! Although yes we are no better than drums, we too give the music some story or feeling to it. Drums give the pace, rhythm gives the back drop, lead tells when the story is getting good or exciting, and the singer tells it all.
As a rhythm guitarist, thanks for pointing out the true struggle. :)

That's why I prefer to be a rhythm guitarist that does lead vocals and *some* lead duties (kinda like Dave Mustaine). Floyd rose and all.
Playing chords is pretty easy, but everyone loves lead more thats not a hipster
"The Drug Addict". Classic. Probably the hardest I laughed in over a year. Thank you Jared. That was definitely me 6 years ago. Sold 7 guitars, all my effects (including an original op-amp Big muff from the 70's my dad gave me from his youth that I didn't even know what I had), and a couple of amps. At the end of 2011 my only equipment left was a Peavey 4X12 Cabinet and a Peavey Supreme 160 Head and that was only because it didn't work at the time and pawn shops don't buy your shit if it doesn't work. I lucked out with that and it only cost me $90 to get working again as it turned out only the inputs, knobs, and internal electronics needed to be cleaned. I have purchased 3 other amps to compliment that one in the last 6 years of being clean. Also, I now have more effects pedals then I ever dreamed....an entire board full plus other pedals that I couldn't fit on the board as well as a mutli FX Processor from TC Electronics. I still only have 5 guitars that I have bought since 2011 but one is the Yngwie Malmsteen signature Strat which was my dream guitar for 2 decades. Not wasting money on drugs freed up a ton of income and now I am addicted to gear. Researching gear is how I found this channel.
I'm mostly a bassist, but i love switching to rhythm guitar every once in a while. It's fun pushing a lead guitarist to give their all.

I tend to be more like “Easy Does It” when I play rhythm guitar but thats mainly because with an acoustic guitar and a pad/synth being played, rhythm in a worship environment normally just keeps the “rhythm goin with a little overdrive and delay

Zacky is super talented when it comes to harmonics, but Syn shines when it comes to expressing some shreadable emotion. They are great match. A7X and Bullet are the two bands that lead me to Dimebag, Rhodes, Zakk Wylde... and "IMO" show more emotion in their music, than most. Today's guitarist are all about the perfect tone, crazy speed, and being technical, but lack that mind blowing aspect, but I digress.

Bands like The fall of troy, Dance Gavin Dance, a lot like birds and many other groups in that genre, have such different guitars playing on either side that the times they do sound the same, something makes them sound special to their own side to be noticed. The Fall of troy's sledge hammer is guilty of that in the late song, One it hits the first break down the rhythm gets some strong parts that are played live instead of the leads. (mind you they have one guitarist and a bassist, and drummer)
I play both,and like both(rhythm and lead) but its most of the time the rhythm guitarist that writes the bones of the song(licks,chord progression) which the lead guitarist (usually)plays over and in my experience the rhythm guitarist USUALLY writes the lyrics,I personally like the double lead,deep purple e.c.t.
