Newfoundland pup plays with rescued gibbon

- Today we visited our friends over at IPPL in Summerville, SC and got to see their new newfy pup, Blue, play with one of the rescued gibbons. The gibbon is seen even grooming the dog leading it to chase.

If given the chance, they could be the best of friends. The dog enjoyed the gibbon "petting" him, as the gibbon enjoyed the dog's fascinating wavy hair. Clearly, both felt safe and happy. Friendship is a marvelous thing. :)

Ribbons have such long arms and make a really special sound. Love seeing this interaction between them. Good stimulation for both.

Blue is now a Grand Champion. His title is Cru's El Condor Pasa GCH - the gibbon is named Tong and lives at the International Primate Protection League's gibbon sanctuary in Summerville SC

Why is the gibbon enclosed on cement as opposed to grass?
Probably to clean up his poop easier
it's probably still young and isn't used to being served food yet, so would forage in the grass of its enclosure for food. unfortunately this would expose it to a lot of bacteria that could make it very sick.

poor newfie, gibbon has all the advantages of their tag game. newfie really has nothing that can reach through those holes to tag with because his snout is too big and he can't get his paws up high enough. then the gibbon's climbing up the fence. the newfie's just lookn like, "hey, now that's really not fair." LOL

The gibbon needs a playmate. I;m not sure of gibbons are social animals or not, but this one seems to need a playmate!
They are social animals and they live in small family groups. Given that this was filmes at a primate rescue, he might have a friend there.

Gibbon keeps calling the dog a noob
One thing I will never understand is why it is that every single primate enclosure I have ever seen has a hard concrete floor and almost everything in the enclosure is hard, meanwhile their natural habitat consists mostly of soft ground and trees. Primate enclosures really are prisons.

Its hopefully just a temporary enclosure built for other animals. Gibbons dont make crap like humans, their dung composts into grass - no need to clean it away.

This is a rescued Gibbon at a sanctuary. Many times they have suffered trauma from their previous lives and due to disease transmission are unable to be released into the wild. They are given the best lives possible by their caregivers.
Because people much much smarter than you deemed it necessary.
Drill Films there are sanctuaries that provide lots of grass and trees and space, this is a prison.
