How Fast Can Gibbons Swing Through the Forest?

- Gibbons are incredible tree swingers, thanks to their long forearms, mobile joints and wrists that enhance fluid movement.

They're monogamous and at the same time, great swingers.
Yep, bit of a contradiction hahaha.
Lol, that's witty!

all you have to do is not get eaten by snakes, leopards or tigers

For a gibbon, the occasional fall is a part of life; the important thing is to catch another branch and keep on swinging.
Great leap at 02:18
In a parallel universe what if Gibbons were to live in a forest full of Giant Sequoias?
Gliding Gibbons and then Flying Gibbons?

Their arms are like strings connected to a a pendulum. Fantastic to see them move.
They love to scare the kids with their sound you know. They used to sunbathe during the winter in our backyard. They travel a lot, roam around.
That last Gibbon was insane, look at the speed he is clearing. He's like a parkour master. Awesome creatures.
They’re beautiful animals.
Far better than a parkour master.

gibbons and chimps
Nice video! I hope some experts can answer my question. I know Gibbons are all over SE Asia and they must have encountered leopards. My concern is the Gibbons are able to outpace leopards on trees? We know leopards can catch monkeys.

Ahhh Semar! You can do it buddy! 😂
They move through trees far faster than even the fastest humans can sprint on the ground
Bet the most satisfying thing about being a gibbon is just freely, effortlessly, and super efficiently just swinging from branch to branch. looks so fun, wow.
I'm really proud of These ancestors of ours. They know what they're doing and never really FAIL !!

My shoulders hurt after watching this.
And humans think parcour is impressive....
Haha! Yes, parkour looks a bit pathetic in comparison doesn't it?!
These gibbons put Tarzan to shame
In the books, Tarzan just brachiates and doesn’t swing on vines as much as he does in most other adaptations.
This is the specialty of gibbons
my uncle has one of these as a pet and I had to pin it down & slap it across the face
after it thought it would be a good idea to P all over me. Climbed right to the top of that

Lol nice
I bet some of da brothers in Chicago can do better !
I wonder if I can do this but of course slower. I'd love to give it a try. I don't think the trees where I live are very suitable for going tree to tree though. It's mostly coniferous trees like spruce. It's quite easy to climb a single tree so long as there is at least one branch low enough to the ground to grab. Often times in the middle of the forest though, it's quite a ways up before any of that, and it is too wide to wrap my arms around and shuffle up. I feel like climbing some trees now. I might just keep an eye out for any close together clusters of trees so that I could try going tree to tree.
@APassersby I must return to monke

God i wish i was a gibbon
I think they are one of the best swingers in nature)
i went to a gibbon sanctuary place recently and it was pretty cool like some of them were swinging around and some them were just eating food looking at us, some times they would just start singing when they saw food cause they were excited and the first time they started singing it lasted for like three minutes it was pretty cool and loud.
I wonder if they ever fall to the ground? Amazing animal.
Wildlife Videography I hope not
It's not so much the falling that's worrisome. It's the sustained loss of forest cover in their jungles in north-east India. As trees are cut down and forest canopies become less dense, less close together, gibbons are forced to come to the ground to move from place to place. This makes them incredibly vulnerable to feral dogs, humans and other predators.
All the time in fact. Most gibbons fall. A lot of wrist injuries occur while trying to break a nasty fall.
@@GajanaNigade :(
They fall pretty often, they're just light and small enough that they don't tend to get horrific injuries or die. Broken bones are exceedingly common, but they're rarely fatal since they are very tough and also social, and can take care of each other pretty well.
First of all sahmar is a whole mood

I don’t understand why they don’t have prehensile tails? It would really help them

Welcome to Assam
The only ape exists in India
I've seen gibbons in a zoo make the gibbons in this video look very slow. 35 miles per hour could be reasonable.
I guess because they have fewer branch orientations to master so they get really good at them?
@@jichaelmorgan3796 That could be correct.
That last branch wasn't very forgibbon...
These have 0 fall damage 😂

Wow monogamous. I think human must copy their lifestyle.
Humans are not really monogamous
The interesting thing about humans is that they aren't really naturally monogamous or polygamous, it just depends on culture.
