The Godfather of D.C. Basketball was Also a Cocaine Kingpin

  • The “godfather of D.C. basketball,” Curtis Malone bred three NBA lottery picks and hundreds of Division I players through his D.C. AAU program. Basketball players were not all Malone dealt in, however. In 2014, Malone was convicted for his role in a massive cocaine and heroin ring.
“It’s like the most dysfunctional Robin Hood story ever,” Malone’s stepdaughter said, claiming he sold drugs only to help pay rent for players’ families or help out friends in need. Red Cards investigates, discovering corruption and scandal behind one of the best basketball training programs in the country.
    Presented by Ryot.

This is foolish I grew up with slim. To say he engaged in activity that made him a kingpin is malicious slander. He cared about the kids and he wasn't a kingpin. Most young men from our era made some choices that weren't best involving the streets but that was a part of how we were socialized in limited opportunities. Berkley B you stop prohibiting substances that are individual choices and rights, you don’t have a drug epidemic anymore. You stigmatize drug users and lie about the the effects of drugs to have the masses believe that drugs are completely bad with no benefits, and convince them that they need a government to control their life’s and others. Without the cia, fbi, dea, etc. cracking down on plants and chemicals, all people would be responsible for their own actions that do not effect anyone but themselves. Almost all crime and violence is drug related and would be ended if we ended prohibition. We’ve seen this multiple times throughout history. Your friend would be MORE successful than you if the government would leave him and everyone else alone.

There were two avenues for hoops the CYO and the Interhigh. Then the drug culture took over during the 80s and 90s. I just don`t remember when AAU the became bigger than the CYO and Interhigh in the DMV or this dude Malone?

Idk he probably sold to people the children he worked with knew. I think it's a front, a passion and a way to release guilt of selling drugs to his own neighborhood, leading to homes being torn apart or never the same. Bc he could have helped more people by not giving drugs. He only wanted a specific group in the community to do well. And it's hard for anyone to do well surrounded in a drug epidemic. Selling drugs just made it harder for him to reach the children he wanted to help. Very backwards trippy person.

I think that a lot of drug dealers consider it a family business, and the reality of the fact is people who use drugs like heroin and cocaine are for the most part already using those drugs. I really don't think it makes those people evil, and it doesn't necessarily make them responsible for the users' addiction. Most people who buy heroin from street dealers didn't get addicted by those same street dealers, 99% of the time.

@@berk7888 The justification to my statement? Maybe re-word that cause I don't need to justify my statement to you or anybody else. I'm just saying that I think certain black families look at selling drugs as a family enterprise in a way that white families, by and large, would often look at and be ashamed of. Their "family business" might include selling upholstery or bait and tackle at a fishing shop, black people oftentimes have selling drugs as their family business. "The justification" is it's fucking true, in my opinion, unless you meant to say something else.

I'm happy for those he did help move on...BUT his good deeds dwarf his drug selling which created burglars, rapists and who knows what else..remember that.....he promoted drug sales to make other YOUNG BLACK people addicts or drug dependent..
How does him helping others along the way make him a decent human being.....He helped his many? 25..50..100...500 people?
Bet whatever that number is...Double that to find the number of druggies he and his 'crew' created and made RICH those people running rehab centers, not to mention help fill up the DC JAIL and/or send to Lorton.....l saw many of them there....
