Me personally I wouldn’t want to live like that, have to give up everything and everyone you love to avoid prison is no different then being in prison imo. At least when your in prison you can speak with your loved ones. Only way I’d even consider doing something like that is if my family was willing to give up their lives and come with me.

      I agree to a point about the gentrification and the lack of affordable housing for blacks and the poor, but DC was much worse than now. The city is much safer, more cultured, and more beautiful, in my opinion. At least today, I can walk down K Street without worrying if I walk into a drive-by. The problem with income inequality is a national issue, not just DC.
      I am glad we did have Barry has mayor during those tumultuous times: he got into the trenches and fought alongside his fellow Washingtonians. Any other person would have resigned after just a term. RIP Marrion Barry.

      I wouldn’t say much more sophisticated, they had much more social mobility skin colour wise which allowed them much more leveraged to penetrate much more industries such as construction, trade unions etc.

So it was not because of social mobility. They were much more sophisticated which is why a lot of these crews ended up simply being they’re foot soldiers meant to carry out the Mafia’s dirty work, not to mention the mafia had far better and higher reach, penetration and political connections. The reason as to why they were much more sophisticated was because they were prudent, secretive and larger resources than these predominantly black crews and cliques.

    This is more about the story of a guy having a mental breakdown than a "gang" story. Yeah, he was in a gang and did illegal stuff but that doesn't seem to be the underlying factor for him going into the police station and committing murder/suicide.

    The scenes from Tanzania were over dramatized. Those cop uniforms, and that Land Rover vehicle, with black registration plate (not yellow) and fuel jerricans at the back, are straight out of colonial times and the 60s/70s 😂😂😂
