That was the time our litle princess used her black wings. First time recordet singing when she was 1 1/2 year old ( video on You Tube ). Started using You tube when she was 3 yo, loved jazz. Had to wait until she was 7 yo befor she could compet, then she wonn Norway got talent ( the adult verson ). She is freaking, insanely, scary talented acording to worlds greates record companies. Angelina Jordan was 9 years old when this song was recorded. It was a tribute to Screamin Jay Hawkins who was quite a character. Most of the times he performed the song rising from a coffin in a voodoo style. Angelina is Norwegian, her full name is Angelina Jordan Astar. Her father is Swedish, her mother is Norwegian from a Japanese father and Iranian Mother Mery Zamani who is a poet and a painter and was a child prodigy in her own rights. She started singing at the age of one and a half when she fell in love with Whitney Houston’s version of “I Will Always Love You”. A year later she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and showed lot of interest in artists like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, and Louis Armstrong.
Angelina pestered her mother to enter her in “Simon’s Show” as she called it from the age of 3. Her mother relented and entered her in Norway Got Talent at the age of 7 where she auditioned with Billie Holiday’s Gloomy Sunday. She went ahead to win the the big prize at the finals where she received 46% of the votes while the remaining 9 finalists combined received 54%. Angelina said she likes singing because she wants to bring joy and love to the whole world. One of her dreams from a very young age was to sing at a Nobel Peace Prize concert. She accomplished that at the age of 8 singing Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World.
After winning NGT, she was flooded with offers from major music labels but they were all turned down by her and her family in order for her to continue her education and to protect her artistic integrity. Her uncle/manager in an interview last year he talked about music labels top executives who would fly to Norway on private jets with huge contracts offers but would leave mad and frustrated because they never expected being turned down.
Angelina is fluent in Norwegian as well as in English. She also speaks some Swedish which is very close to Norwegian and probably learned it from her father. She also speaks Farsi which she learned from her grandmother as well as some Japanese that she picked up from her grandfather as well as her mom and uncle who lived for a period of time in Japan. She actually performed a Japanese song at a concert in Japan.
Most of her performances after NGT were for charitable children organizations where she helped to raise millions.
At the age of 6 and while travelling in another country with her family, she came across a young orphaned shoeless girl who was weighing people on a bathroom scale for some coins in order to support herself and her siblings. After chatting with her for a while and without prompting from her family, she gave her shoes to the orphan girl. She recorded that incident in her diary and vowed to always sing barefoot when doing that in public to remember that girl and to remind herself and us about the many needy children around the world. At the age of 9 she wrote and published a book about that encounter making her Norway’s youngest published author. Proceeds from that book are donated to children charities.
Angelina Jordan has about 200 songs in her repertoire. In 2020 she signed with Republic Records as their highest priority new artist. Her versatility is unmatched. She will wow and surprise you all the time. 17 years old today who is an excellent role model for today’s youth and her best is yet to come.

Angelina taught herself how to sing. She began having lessons in music theory and how to play instruments at age 4 BUT her teachers were smart enough to NOT change anything with her vocals. Angelina was around her 9th birthday for this performance (video wasn't uploaded until about a year after the recording). Please read the biography I compiled for my all time favorite musical artist.
Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman.
Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on RUclips. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran.
Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage.

At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes.
Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true.
Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old.
At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried.
Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience.
In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them.
In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists.
When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”.
Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on RUclips went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old.
In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration.
Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14.
At age 9, Angelina recorded a music video covering the 1956 Jay Hawkin’s classic, “I Put a Spell On You”. The video begins by showing Angelina writing her “wishes” for how she wants to perform the song. Angelina has always created her own arrangements for her cover songs.
At age 10 and just a week before her 11th birthday, Angelina recorded a demo of “I’m Still Holding Out for You”. Her family never pursued having that recording officially released but someone leaked it on a RUclips video. Thankfully, everyone involved with that song is now ok with the leaked version. Many angels (fans) believe this is one of Angelina’s best performances.
When Angelina was 11, she performed a number of concerts in Norway with a jazz/rock band. Those concerts included up to 14 songs, each remarkably performed. Angelina seems to be at her best when on stage, never nervous, only 100% confident.
Also at age 11, Angelina recorded her “It’s Magic” album which has, at times, been in the top 10 best selling jazz albums. The album can be purchased on iTunes or Amazon.
On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year.
During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each.
In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina was eliminated after covering Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT which would give Simon any control over her career.
Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on RUclips. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her.
During the pandemic, Angelina was often seen buying meals for the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles.
In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one.
Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield”
In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released. A jazzy, danceable, inspiring song.
Angelina has posted numerous short performances on Tik Tok and Instagram.
Angelina had concerts in Norway in July 2022.
Personally, Angelina as a great human being and her music came into my life when I needed it most. Her music has improved the quality of my life more than I can express. How long has she been training for this? I don't know that there is a single answer to that. There is video of her singing a line from Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" when she was 18 months old. She fell in love with jazz at about three. She won Norway's Got Talent at eight. She recorded this when she was nine.

You can choose to react to her younger performances, or her more recent ones, you can’t go wrong! But I suggest you do her younger ones first, that way you get to see her progression. Find the performance on Norway’s got talent that “started it all”: her debut with “Gloomy Sunday”. You wont regret it!

Angelina is a prodigy Norwegian born she started singing at the age of 18 months. She has a heart of gold she has worked diligently and produced millions to help with children's needs and environmental things worldwide all before the age of 16, she gave her shoes to a poor child when she was 5 and was the youngest author in Norway with the story about why she performs without shoes. She has produced over 160 covers of all genres and made them all hers while maintaining recognition and loyalty to the original. Angelina sings in 5 languages, plays the flute, guitar, piano, and violin, writes her own music and paints follow her and you will have a video journey from the age of 7 to now at the age of 16 every performance is a musical masterpiece regardless of age and you will meet her followers (called angels) who number in the thousands and are some of the nicest people on the net. Best of all in her live performances (at any age) - singing in front of a crowd is her great love, the larger the better... she has absolutely no fear - when asked "do you get nervous" she always says "nah, it's just fun.." She is also a great songwriter: 5 of her originals - written between the ages of 11 and 14 (the most recent we know, Million Miles, is amazing) - are in the public domain, all (I think) superb, and each so different from the other... Thank you for discovering Angelina. She is well worth every nanosecond you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on RUclips, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener.
Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original.
There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed.
(a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled.
(b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers.
(c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it.
(d) The smile on the face of the Bass player.
(e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine"
(f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted.
(g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song.
(h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time.
(i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word
(j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody.
(k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying.
Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.
A very good first reaction! Oh boy, you are going to be bombarded by her fans called Angels that will fill you in on this music prodigy with an old soul from Norway. She's basically been a star since she was 7 years old. First and foremost, she is a jazz singer but has the ability to sing any genre. She also does all of her own musical arrangements. Her early influences are Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Etta James to name a few. Her love of jazz came from her grandmother playing jazz music around her when she was young. She entered and won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8. Why does Angelina sing barefoot? The answer may bring a tear to your eye. It is related to a promise she made to herself and to the world when she was only 6 years old. She was traveling in the Middle East with her mom and grandmother and they came across a young orphan girl with no shoes and scarred feet. Angelina gave the girl her own favorite shoes. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Why does Angelina sing barefooted? Angelina Jordan is known as "The Barefoot Princess" or "The Barefoot Princess of Jazz," amongst many other names. She always performs barefooted, whether in front of a live audience or during a studio performance. The story is that while living in the Middle East, at 6 years old, Angelina came across an orphaned girl, of her own age, sitting in the street, weighing people on a bathroom scale to earn money. Angelina said to herself, "I would like to share her life for one second to know what it is like to sit alone, wet, and damp, and barefoot in a corner of the street." Angelina could see the girl's bare feet were scarred and that it was cold outside, so she offered her own shoes to the girl. Little Angelina says that she really loved her shoes, as they were very nice and she knew she would miss them. But she saw the other little girl’s need for them, which outweighed her own desire to keep them. So she insisted the little girl take them.
Angelina called her Princess, even though the girl said she didn't live in a castle, but the ruins of a building next to where she sat. After sharing their hopes and dreams, the little girl said of Angelina's wish to sing for the world, "You will become the one you dream of and when your dreams come true, you have to remember the poor children without shoes; and I will pray for you Angelina.” Later that day, 6 y/o Angelina wrote in her diary, "The world is very strange. Right then and there, I felt as if a door in my heart opened up, and it was filled with lots of lights. It was as if there was, from Earth to Heaven, a staircase. I climbed the stairs. To be able to do something for another human - it was such a big thing…hard to describe really.”
From that point on, Angelina takes off her shoes, in honor of ‘Princess’ and all the other less fortunate children of the world, who are orphaned, hungry, or in want of even basic clothing. In 2015, at the age of 9, Angelina wrote a book about the encounter, as everyone continued to ask why she sang barefoot. Her grandmother, Mery Zamani, created the artwork for the book. So at 9, Angelina Jordan became the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina has performed alongside many other artists, raising attention and helping to raise over 21 million euros and millions of dollars for children in need.

AJ was filmed singing Whitney Houston in her crib when she was 1 1/2 years old. She auditioned for Norway's Got Talent when she was 7 and turned 8 before resoundingly winning the season. Needless to say, Angelina went on to win the 2014 season of NGT shortly after her 8th birthday. The family was bombarded with requests for performances, interviews, and record label offers. They turned down 90% of the requests, as they insisted that Angelina should enjoy a normal childhood.

At 14, Angelina signed with Republic Records. Republic gave her complete artistic control as well as control over the performances she would make. Angelina is now 16 and lives in LA. She turned 17 on January 10, 2023, and will graduate from high school after the spring semester. From then on, she will embark on her full-time professional career. She began arranging the music at a very early age, 6 or 7 years old, so by the time she gets to shoot this video at 9 years old, she’s in charge of it all, including the arrangement. Angelina was 9 years old when she recorded this video. She had worked with the band for awhile for other music projects but she is the arranger. She took the original 1956 song by Screaming Jay Hawkins and made it her own as she had done with most all the (150+) covers that she has produced. Hawkins is the image in the candle at the beginning of this video. Check out his version of his song live on the Merv Griffin Show in 1966, and you will recognize Angelina's interpretation.

I have listened to Angelina every day for the past 8 years. She is the only artist I can do this without becoming bored. That is because of the infinite variety of her approaches to covers as she has built up her incredible vocal control by singing every great vocalist from every genre. She started with jazz. She is mainly self trained in this way. Her training apart for being taught how to protect her voice and breath tecnique has been on instruments. That is why her runs are so precise...they are almost instrumental. Don't expect 2 songs to sound the same. That's why she is addictive. Yet her voice is distinctive...we don't know how she does it. By the way the first clip with a mike in tune is 1 and 1/2. First time in a recording studio obviously excited by the experience is AGE 6 and is an astounding cover of I WHO HAVE NOTHING. There is also a very funny clip of her at a nursery sing along refusing to sing as she pleads with her eyes to be removed from there as her perfect pitch is tortured by the noise. She referenced this later when she said her mother tried to get her to sing nursery rhymes but she only wanted to sing jazz. She auditioned for Norways Got Talent age 7 with the Hungarian suicide song GLOOMY SUNDAY and was 8 by the final winning performance of Summertime. Her parents have been applying the brakes until this year. They turned down offers earlier by many including Disney and Simon Cowel. They only signed her at 14 with Republic Records with the proviso they not push her until she finished school. Also giving an unprecidented degree of artistic control for her age. This was a nod to the fact she has been involved in her own arrangements since Norways Got Talent. "I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock-rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne-type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video).
You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to appreciate the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. Angelina was in studios by the time she was 6 and won the Norwegian Got Talent show at 8, she is 9 here #(released when 10). She has just turned 17, birthday 10th January. Stongly believed her 1st album will be released this year, she was signed up to Republic Records two years ago, but family insisted she finish school first.

From her audition on Norway’s Got Talent (2014 - age 7 - Gloomy Sunday "Billy Holiday") through the final on America’s Got Talent The Champions (2020 - age 13 - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road "Sir Elton John") and the 130+ videos in between you will not be disappointed. She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talked with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind herself (and the world) that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.

She was just over 9 years old here and already an established name in music believe it or not! Her love of Jazz music came from her grandmother Mary Zumani, a famous Iranian who was always playing jazz music. When she was 2 or 3 years old, she discovered jazz through her grandmother and began studying all the greats of jazz history with RUclips videos. She has been arranging her cover songs since she was 6 or 7 years old. She started with jazz!! She won “Norway Got Talent” at the age of 8!! She chatted with the girl who wasn't wearing shoes and learned that she is an orphan. The girl admired Angelina's beautiful shoes. Angelina then gave the girl her shoes. The girl thanked her and said she would pray for Angelina every day. In return, Angelina promised her that she would always sing barefoot at public performances until all the children had shoes. Until today Angelina has kept her promise. In 2014, she sang barefoot outdoors at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert honoring Malala in December. Here is what I believe about this performance.
I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. We get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Anyone who discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point.
Think of the children who will be inspired by this one performance in the decades to come. This is an Iconic performance and will always be Iconic. Angelina has on her own from early on at 6 or 7 yrs old reintroduced what I believe will be a whole new Jazz Era and redefined by this young phenom and prodigy. That is astounding! And she is just 17 years old... That is unfathomable. She has already established her proficiency and incredible work ethic in this endeavor guided by an incredible family and professional support now surrounding her.

Great reaction! Angelina makes me feel her emotions bone deep. She covers Wicked Game, and as young as she is, she makes me feel as though she cruelly lost the love of her life.
There's not a singer alive that can compete with her on this song. She did the arrangements and her notes, at the beginning of the video, were to the music director she calles 'wishes'. The songwriter, Screamin' Jay Hawkins' face is on the candle she show at the beginning. Among studio musicians she is known as "Boss" because she knows what she wants. There are a lot of great singers but few express the emotion Angelina delivers. Her covers of Amy Winehouse and Adele are remarkable.
