John Gary vs Angelina Jordan Unchained Melody
One of the most memorable experiences of my life was seeing John Gary perform live in Seattle, WA, when I was 20 years old. He had such a powerful and beautiful voice that filled the whole auditorium. During the break, he sat down on the edge of the stage and played his guitar, singing Unchained Melody with so much emotion and passion. It was a sublime moment that I shared with my wife, and I felt like we were the only ones in the room. At that time, I thought to myself; how could anyone top that performance, but 56 years later a 17-year-old Angelina Jordan just did.
Angelina Jordan's performance at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Norway in 2023 blew me away. She sang with such passion and emotion that I felt every word in my soul. She truly captured the essence of the song and made it her own. and she is only 17-year-old. I have never heard anything like it before, this genius never ceases to amaze me. ©
Even if you didn't know who Angelina was, after that beautiful introduction by the orchestra, YOU KNEW whoever the vocalist would be must be sensational. And, so she is. The tone of her voice is love in its most genuine form and, yes, as you stated there are many, many souls reflected in what we hear from her soul. Always poised and never nervous, she has been quoted as saying she is most comfortable in life when she is on stage singing for people. She most definitely was born to sing and I believe she doubles as a Messenger of Love, as well.
I watched Bobby Hatfield (Righteous Brothers) sing this in Anaheim, Calif. at the taping of the Andy Williams TV show in 1965! It instantly became my all time favorite song and for many years I did not think anyone would ever do it better. Not even my life long favorite male singer, Elvis, could do it better! Then i saw a video of Angelina singing a short version of the song at 9 years old on a Norwegian TV show where she was interviewed about her newly published book about why she does not wear shoes when performing. When I heard her do this song that day, I just knew in my mind and heart that someday she would do it better than Bobby! Sept. 22 2023 I was setting 30 feet from her in Portsmouth NH when she did the most amazing version of the song I had ever heard! She slowed it way down and put tons of emotion into every word! This old man and most others in the audience cried through out most of her performance of the song that night! Then a little less than 3 months later she did this performance! Very different but still very beautiful and emotional; and SO FITTING FOR THE OCCASION!!!! I have now listened to both performances well over 100 times each and I still cannot decide which I like best! Loved your reaction!!

She has been in and out of prison for the past 31 years and her husband and twin siblings who are Angelina's age are there to receive this most prestigious award ! Angelina is singing to them directly with the famous Norwegian orchestra Kork ,to a live concert audience and a National TV audience of millions ! Also the Nobel Peace prize event is held each year in Oslo, Norway. This also happens to be where Angelina Jordan was born and the recipient who is Iranian definitely has ties to Angelina whose grandmother Mery is from Iran too. The song "Unchained Melody" also is about an imprisoned person who longs to be on the outside with her loving family and friends. This is why Angelina was able to deliver a most poised , graceful and truly reverent version of this iconic classic song. I had tears from the opening words that Angelina sang to the very end with the magnificent falsetto that Angelina delivered. Angelina is the reason why AI vocalists will never work. What she does cannot be reproduced. I have been trying to analyse what she is doing for 10 years. The endless unpredictable shifts in tone, texture and colour of her dynamic vocals and yet always instantly recognisable by her fans. I have seen Angelina thicken her sound till it resembles the effect of when you are about to cry and the tissues at the back of your nasal passages swell. I have heard her drop her larynx and achieve that deep resonant chest voice that reminds us of Elvis. I have heard her belt, trill intone, cry out. What I have never seen her do in any finessed performance is one single note to show off. A true artist her voice is an instrument to be used to tell the story and convey the emotion, with a thousand little clues we pick up on a subliminal level. That is why an AI can sound like some artists but will never be able to replace Angelina.

In 2014, a little Norwegian girl was named and codified, a national treasure by both the King of Norway and the prime Minister. That same year, she sang for the Nobel peace prize winners all at the age of 8.
In 2023, that same girl, now almost 18 once again graced the Nobel peace prize stage and sang for the recipient once again.
That young girl is none other than Angelina Jordan.
Angelina Jordan made history with this performance.
Angelina is the only solo singer under the age of 18 to have performed twice at the Nobel peace prize concert.
When I learned the story of Narges Mohammadi, this years recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, and the history of the song "Unchained Melody", I fully understood why Angelina Jordan chose this song.
P.S.: Angelina arranged the music and vocals for this performance. She thanked the director of KORK publicly for allowing her to do this.
Just spectacular. I have probably watched this every day for a couple months and it just gets more beautiful with repeated plays. I get chills, goosebumps, and tingles all over. Angelina inspires me to do what I can to help make the world a better place, so I am asking all angels and others to spread the story of Narges Mohammadi. Angelina was recorded here in December 2023 at the Nobel Peace prize ceremony in Oslo Norway, performing this beautiful version of Unchained Melody. She paid tribute to Narges, who is currently on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two twin children, who are 17, spoke on her behalf at this event. The more people who are aware and call for change, the more likely the leaders of Iran will set her free. Acts of kindness are inspirational, as Angelina always reminds us. We angels, and all others must honor Angelina, and those who represent our values, by doing all we can to help, and be kind to others. Even the smallest gestures can make a difference.

Love your impressions Lucie. Here is a little background info: This was the Nobel for Narges Mohammadi, who is serving a 31 year prison sentence for supporting human rights in Iran. Angelina's grandma Mery Zamani, is Iranian, so this hits close to home. Angelina has sung Unchained Melody several times since she was 8. This was the most reverent rendition she has done. She is literally singing to Narges' two children, who haven't seen their mother in 9 years, " I'll be coming home, wait for me", it has to be heart wrenching. Unchained Melody was written for 1955 movie called Unchained, where a man is imprisoned, longing for his loved ones. So you see why Angelina chose this song. This was a great honor for Angelina...she is the only person under the age of 18 to perform at the Nobel Peace Prize twice. Great reaction Lucie.
Angelina lived in around for quite some time and grandmother. Her great mother grandmother was there and she’ll learn the language that how she spoke that little girl is with no shoes as a shoe bender so she speaks several languages now I know she’s Swedish Persian English!

The recipient of this Nobel Peace Prize is in prison for pursuing women's rights in Iran, sentenced to 31 years for doing it.
Beautiful reaction, Lucie. This is taken from the Nobel peace Prize concert here in Norway on December 11th 2023, when Angelina was one month shy of turning 18. This year's Nobel peace prize winner is Narges Mohammadi, an Iranian women's rights activist. She has been sentenced to 35 years in prison, in addition to receiving more than 100 whip lashes. She has a twin son and daughter the same age as Angelina, and she hasn't seen them for almost 10 years. They now live in France together with their uncle. They came to Norway in their mother's place to receive the prize. Angelina's biggest inspiration in life is her grandmother, Mery Zamani, who is also Iranian. You can imagine that this performance meant a lot for Angelina and her family. Also when you consider that Angelina from age 7 has said in interviews that her biggest dream was to sing at the Nobel Peace Prize concert. Now Angelina is the very first artist to have performed at the concert two times before the age of 18, she was 8 years old the first time.
Narges' children sat only a few meters away from Angelina when she performed, and I think it must have been very emotional for them. If you take the background into account, you will understand that the choice of song and the way she performed couldn't possibly have been any better.

Sung by the National Treasure of Norway, a part Iranian vocalist of world class. At a ceremony doe said mother, sung to her twins, the same age of AJ.

This is a tribute to " narges mohammidi " the nobel prize winner , she is currently serving a very long prison sentence in iran for simply calling for freedom of expression for woman and refusing to wear the higab .angelinas grandmother mery zamani is iranian , she introduced angelina to jazz music when angelinas was very young .this performance is intentionally restrained and subdued in keeping with this nobel peace prize event .its as if narges mohammidi has leapt into angelinas body and is pouring her heart out to her husband and 2 teenage children who are sitting directly in front of angelina .

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize for 2023 to Narges Mohammadi for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all. Her brave struggle has come with tremendous personal costs. Altogether, the regime has arrested her 13 times, convicted her five times, and sentenced her to a total of 31 years in prison and 154 lashes. Ms. Mohammadi is still in prison.
What makes this song so meaningful is, Unchained Melody was written about a prisoner longing to be reunited with a loved one. And her husband and children were there to receive the honor on her behalf.
Lucie, thanks for your reaction. Angelina makes me feel like I am part of the story. Her soulful voice hugs my soul, unlike any other. I can feel the love she was conveying for Narges Mohammadi and her twin children and for all the women in Iran.
Narges Mohammadi was this years' recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Narges was, at the time of this tribute, on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two children spoke on her behalf at this event. Most of the performers were Iranian.
We know Angelina's grandmother, Mery Zamani, grew up in Iran and was a prodigy for painting and poetry. We can imagine the conversations Mery had with Angelina about Narges. This performance had to be extremely meaningful to Angelina and her family. I hope all the angels will spread the story of Narges and her mission, with the hope for change.
In 1954, Alex North was contracted to compose the score for the prison film Unchained (released in 1955). North had a melody he had written in the 1930s and composed and recorded the score when he was asked to write a song based upon the movie's theme. North asked Hy Zaret to write the lyrics. After first refusing, Zaret and North together wrote "Unchained Melody. Zaret refused the producer's request to include the word "unchained" in his lyrics. The song eventually became known as the "Unchained Melody" even though the song does not actually include the word "unchained". Instead, Zaret chose to focus on someone who pines for a lover he has not seen in a "long, lonely time".
"Unchained Melody" comes from the film centered on a man who contemplates either escaping from prison to live life on the run or completing his sentence and returning to his wife and family. So indeed this song fits along with Narges being in prison and her two children, and the rest of the people who embrace freedom, calling for her release.
