i love this. i saw a screen of the Val Shively doc last night at the Rock & Roll HOF in Cleveland. it reminded me so much of my days growing up in Overbrook, near 69th st. did a quick google search on 69th st in the 80s and found this. awesome video. thanks for sharing.

Gosh, same here. I remember them from the 60's: Tiny Towne, Thom McAn, Lit Brothers, Gimbels, Hamscom's Bakery, Marianne's, but never went to the Tower Theater though.

I used to go to the old Sears Roebuck Building which was then located back in the border of Melbourne & West Philadelphia over 32 years ago because I remember when the old building was then there since I was then in there since the joint had an electronics section because I was always playing the electronic keyboards & fiddling with the video camera & all which was fun to me in the late 80's because I really wanted to see these devices work& all but with this neighborhood of 69th. Street in Upper Darby I've never been in this part of this here town over 32 years ago .

Wow! The Balcony was the place for anything anything and everything that was anti-establishment and couldn't be bought in main stream stores. Teenager nirvana! Bought my first pair of bell bottom hip hugger pants in PURPLE (back when it was only blue or khaki for guys). Had to hide them from my parents finding out

this was one year before i moved to Philadelphia from Los Angeles. i always wondered what Phila and the surrounding area was like back then. it was good to see Lendro's Pizza was there then and McDonald's and others. i still make it a point to visit Lendro's everytime i'm in the city (i'm living in Jersey for 11 years now) they're the best pizza in Philadelphia. and this was before the United Artist theater was built (they recently closed it!!!!!!!)

1:01. All of SEPTA'S 8000 series Neoplan buses had the white bulkheads until around 1988 when many of them began getting repainted into dark grey to match the driver's interiors of the then new 3000 series Neoplan buses. I love that humming sound of the engines that were on SEPTA'S 8000 series Neoplan buses.

Nothing but ghetto and hood. Growing up in the 90s Upper Darby 69th Street wasn't all that bad for me. My grandma and grandpop would take me shopping to some of the stores that are now defunct, no longer in business. For example Woolworths, Sears, Dunkin Donuts, Funco Land before it became Gamestop, IGA Supermarket and United Artists Movie Theater before it was remodeled again.

Wow, look at all the stores back then! Things are coming around slowly now. Maybe there will be a huge gentrification project starting so things will become beautiful again. I love upper darby. It's so much cheaper than new york city, but you still get all the foreigners and access to public transportation. University city used to be a dump, and so was manayunk...remember? Look at it now thanks to gentrification and tax payers. Upper Darby is a prime location. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
