Thank you for this. I am on my third set of Astro`s now. PC here. Previously had the 2nd gen, then the 3rd gen, which I have had for over 5 years !. Just recently the 3rd gens began to have some issues with the base station, trying to locate the headphones on the pins so that the charging lights would appear. Normal wear and tear I guess. Then I had no lights and no sound. Could be needing to reset them, or could be a battery issue ?, not sure. So to avoid any future issues with my ageing 3rd gen I decided to purchase the 4th gen. The 4th gen has an upgrade to the headphone drivers , so that is a plus point. The software is what it is. The Command Center is ok, but nothing elaborate, but it does work and is sufficient for me. For my PC gaming use I bought the Xbox headphones as it comes with A Dolby Atmos licence. ( apparantley the PS4 version does not have this Dolby Atmos licence, so buyer beware ). The Astro 4th Gen is a 2.4ghz wireless frequency as opposed to my previous 3rd gen which used the 5Ghz wireless range. Normally the 5Ghz range would offer more power, however the 2.4Ghz range offers better battery life and is more than adequate for a reliable connection, so another plus point. Comfort value for me is excellent, nice soft cloth ear pads, as opposed to plastic leatherette on some other brands. Dolby Atmos is really very good, another plus point. As with the previous Astro headphones, mainly a plastic build. I have had no breakages from any of my Astros in the past. They are robust for me, and I have had Astros for more than 8 years. with heavy gaming use and music etc, no problem. Like any expensive headphones, just be respectful in use. The 4th gen are lighter than the 3rd gen, but offer very good comfort. The Astros offer excellent sound quality, always very good !. Really really good !!. Its a pity now that you will not see Astros being advertised much in the usual, ubiquitous gaming websites or hardware web sites. I dont know why, because the Astros are a cut above many other competing top brands. I can say this because I have tried other brands in the past. I always went back to my Astro`s. Honestly I am very pleased with the 4th gen, of course you have to adjust them carefully within the Command Center, and Dolby Atmos settings. Remember also, that your ears wil need to adjust to the new drivers, as the sound is subtely different from my previous 3rd gen. Not negatively, just different, but after a few days of settling into the sound, I love my Astros !!!!!!. Of course the original price was about $319 dollars, now reduced to about $220 dollars, depending where you shop. I think the 4th gen came out about 2019/20, so I expect we may get a 5th gen at some time. it depends on competition and how the hardware markets fair in this financial segement of the 21st century. However my 4th gen Astros will suffice for me. Thank you.
In properties, the Dolby Atmos option for spatial sound is available when the Astro A50 Voice is selected for output. It's not available when selecting Astro A50 Game as output. Update: It requires an optical audio cord to make it work. Just need to plug into the motherboard's optical audio port and to the "audio in" of the Astro base station. In sound settings, the default output is Digital Output (will be able to select Dolby Atmos) and not Astro A50 Game. Default communication is Astro A50 Voice.
@@shifty25_ Just FYI, you DON'T want it on "Voice" while it sounds a little lounder it is only one channel (not stereo) so it's awful for gaming. Keep it on Game.
FYI, what I've done is, plug in the base station with the optical cable, then set the output device to 'Digital Audio (S/PDIF)(High Definition Audio Device)', and then with Dolby Atmos enabled (the symbol on the base station) you get a fuller directional sound. Maybe it's just me, but with Dolby Atmos turned off, it just sounds awful, like a little man in a box in the middle of a massive hallway.
If you've gotten use to the Dolby Button being on then it would be really weird to adjust to just using the Dolby software like in the video. Theoretically you should have better directional awareness with the setup shown in the video, but what you said about the optical input is completely true. An optical cable is a massive improvement in data transfer speed and quality compared to wireless or that of a 3.5mm jack. I really appreciate your input!

I'm finding that the "S" sounds with these settings are very "sharp" or noticible (idk how to describe it). Any sugesstions on what to modify in the EQ to make that jump out less?
I found the given Command Center EQ settings to be suuuuper hissy and sharp, so I adjusted it a bit, kept the curves and all that the same, but my base values are now -4,-4,-1,4,4. Cheers!
Ive always heard that doubling eq such as you have by using Astro eq and Dolby eq is a sure way to ruin your audio. Even if your able to get good audio wouldn’t it be easy to set one to flat and eq on the other app such as Dolby?
Wow, I am so happy I stumbled across this video. I was ready to return my A50 since they sound was horrendous out of the box. Thank you so much for sharing this! Just curious, which frequencies would you recommend changing if I want to adjust bass or treble levels?
I honestly only found this because I barely noticed my A50's change when I pressed the button, I thought it was broke and ended up finding this instead XD
Hi bro! Thank you so much for the video. It is great! Just a question. Are these settings useful for racing games? I have diferent settings, and I tried them with Forza Horizon 5 and sounds regular. The motor sound is not the better.
I get the same issue on Series X, after scouring the net I read it could be caused by a power supply issue such as a lot of devices running at one time off an outlet, or wifi interference. I have multiple consoles hooked up at once so I did a full shutdown on the console, full shutdown on all my other consoles that were in sleep mode and disconnected the headphones and unplugged the series x for 30 seconds to get rid of any residual power. Plugged it back up and it fixed the problem, no more popping and static waves, but I found it comes back after waking the console up from sleep mode. So I literally do a full shutdown and restart every session and make sure my other consoles are always shut down. Annoying workaround but at least it works, hope this helps..
Thank you for this video but one question that I was hoping you would address is if I play on PS5, do I still need the Dolby EQ access, also, when I plug my Astro A50 to my PS5, I dont have the option to change it to 5 channels. What am I missing please.
sorry quick question on Dolby access do you turn on game "performance mode" under "game" only thing you didn't go into. THANKS! FOR THE VIDEO HELPED ME OUT ALOT... nm answered my own question you have to use one or the other again thx!
he used a custom eq in dolby not the game mode. but if you like the game mode stick with it and turn on performance mode to give you a better 3d audio experience.
Also wanted to point out the A50's for PC/PS4 work on the Xbox One X, (may work on the S and Series S/X but i dont personally have the newest xbox) so you dont have to be bummed if they only have that version. only difference ive found is the color.

Are these settings optimal for playing COD Warzone for hearing footsteps, doors opening, people reloading, etc.? Or are these settings meant for just all around game play experience? Thank you in advance.
I personally think these are optimized for it, but everyone's ears are different. I've had people say they're great for it, and some say it's terrible for footsteps. I think the only way to truly know is to test it out. Thanks so much for watching!
For anybody wanting Dolby Atmos to work on Astro A50 gen 3s, you need to plug in the optical audio cable to your pc. If you’re like me, you don’t have one on your motherboard config. But you can purchase an audio splitter/converter that plugs into an HDMI port as a work-around and use Atmos. People who purchased the A50 gen 4s are lucky because they don’t have to worry about this issue as Atmos is native with just the USB input for the 2019 generation.
Gen 3 had an update that doesnt require the optical cable, just usb now if u want to use atmos. If you dont want to use atmos u can just plug the optical cable to your tv/monitor if it has one, and just use the astro command centre
@@sc8devoid I heard Astro say that the usb wouldn’t natively support Atmos on Gen 3, therefore it wouldn’t work without an optical cable even if there was an update. Either way, you still need to have the usb cable plugged in. If you don’t want Atmos, you don’t need to have the optical cable plugged in.
@@KeeganBennett update with astro fixed it to work exactly like gen 4, no optical cable needed, they did this specifically so they could work with ps5 and xbox series x/s as they no longer use optical ports. The only difference with atmos between gen 3 and 4 is that gen 4 gets atmos for free, gen 3 have to pay the one off atmos purchase
@@sc8devoid Hmm I’m not sure about console, since I recently switched to pc. But I’ll have to check it out and see if it’s true for my platform. I appreciate the heads up!
I tried this and it doesn’t work for me. I got the Astro hdmi adapter to use since my pc doesn’t have optical port. Didn’t show up in my sound control panel at all and it also limits to 120 hz
In games that don't support Dolby Atmos, do we set the games' settings to Headphones and Surround? E.g. BFV does not support it. So I've set the audio settings to Headphones and the channels to Surround. Setting channels to auto will force it to stereo which is not what we want I think because of the audio device being a 2-channel device.
Might be a dumb question but should i have my connection as astro a50 voice or astro a50 game? Or no difference? Thanks! Gonna check out your EQ settings right now.
I am an old dude, and I am no good at fps shooters .I prefer single player story driven games..any good suggestions for an EQ for those sorts of games?

every song will be eq'd differently so this wouldnt work unless u have a specific genre you always listen to saying that the best eq for music is absolutely none when it comes to headsets especially if ur listening to music for mixing and mastering purposes
Do PS5 Astro A50 users also benefit from EQ tuning on Dolby? I know it sounds like a silly question but I am confused because PS5's 3D Audio. I am not sure how tuning with Dolby would work out. I also have only heard of Xbox and PC users getting the pass from Astrogaming and was not sure if its because PS5 gamers wouldnt benefit from this.

Thank you.
I need help I have astros a10 and it keeps saying please connect an astros gaming device or switch the connected device to pc mode
Good video. I've just ordered some A50's. will these settings be good for foot steps in Tarvok etc...? thanks
Unreal I had my shit selected to game and now that I put it to voice the sound is incredible
I have legit never heard a headset like this
@@shifty25_ Just FYI, you DON'T want it on "Voice" while it sounds a little lounder it is only one channel (not stereo) so it's awful for gaming.
Looks like the 5th circle on the Dolby atmos settings is closer to -4 not -1 or -2. Can you confirm by the number of clicks down you go?
What does each column of hertz represent?? I'm trying to fine tune but really have no idea what the F each column does.. Your video helped but not enough
Cheers!
Update, now I use Zeference's audiophile-grade presets. They're phenomenal
@@saint-cetacean hello , can you share these presets ?
Ive always heard that doubling eq such as you have by using Astro eq and Dolby eq is a sure way to ruin your audio. Even if your able to get good audio wouldn’t it be easy to set one to flat and eq on the other app such as Dolby?
do you have to do the Dolby atmo settings for this to work or will just the command center settings work
Wow, I am so happy I stumbled across this video. I was ready to return my A50 since they sound was horrendous out of the box. Thank you so much for sharing this! Just curious, which frequencies would you recommend changing if I want to adjust bass or treble levels?
Base will be the 2 far left bars the treble will be the far right 2
I honestly only found this because I barely noticed my A50's change when I pressed the button, I thought it was broke and ended up finding this instead XD
1. Does xbox series x support your Dolby settings?
2. Will this be good for apex legends ?
Please answer :)
Just got the headset and your vid is bless thank you so much!
Thx for the info! If am customizing solely for the ps4 what would you recommend or are you planning to do a separate vid for PS gamers?
I’m just a little confused your doing these adjustments on the PC and those settings hold? Switching to console?
Hi bro! Thank you so much for the video. It is great! Just a question. Are these settings useful for racing games? I have diferent settings, and I tried them with Forza Horizon 5 and sounds regular. The motor sound is not the better.
A lil bit late but it's for competetive games/hearing footsteps and stuff. It sounds horrible in my opinion but great for locating enemies :D
Dolby access settings work for any platform? Is this Dolby Access Equalization for the Playstation 5, and is it imported to the Astro base?
so to get the best out of dolby access you need the subscription or is the free part still just as good?
I think you just blew my years with those settnings xD. the 8khz + 16 khz is way to high, sound is so light. gun shots was like fkcing laser darts.
Did you ever have a problem with it making a noise when alot of sounds are going off at once? Like the noise comes in waves and dims out and in
Thanks for the comment, no I haven't actually. I'd probably check reddit or the Astro Support. If its defective you may need a new one.
Is it on series x cause I hear similar crackling nosies for my gen 4s on my series x as well I believe it is interference
Nice review …. Do you have a preset for racing games like F1 ?
Thank you for this video but one question that I was hoping you would address is if I play on PS5, do I still need the Dolby EQ access, also, when I plug my Astro A50 to my PS5, I dont have the option to change it to 5 channels. What am I missing please.
Same here. Please reply!!!
Same
sorry quick question on Dolby access do you turn on game "performance mode" under "game" only thing you didn't go into. THANKS! FOR THE VIDEO HELPED ME OUT ALOT... nm answered my own question you have to use one or the other again thx!
he used a custom eq in dolby not the game mode. but if you like the game mode stick with it and turn on performance mode to give you a better 3d audio experience.
Great video but, I have one question. What about the in game (Warzone) audio settings? Boost Low, Boost High, etc….
Your preference.
High

dolby atmos
which button the first one or the second one ??
are you running the fiber optic cable? my motherboard doesnt support the fiber optic. will this work with the usb only?
thanks man. headsett was so basey, already hear a diffrence. again ty
Also wanted to point out the A50's for PC/PS4 work on the Xbox One X, (may work on the S and Series S/X but i dont personally have the newest xbox) so you dont have to be bummed if they only have that version. only difference ive found is the color.
can you only get to the eq settings on a pc? can i get their by ps4 use only?
I have series x and they work but series x doesn't have an optical port
omg sounds so GOOD, THANK YOU!!
Hey I’m having trouble finding an eq I like. I’m playing battlefield 2042 and I want an eq setting that has the bass lowered. I’ve tried multiple eq that I found on RUclips but they all have so much bass. All I hear in game are explosions. Any tips?
If I get Dolby access and adjust as you've said, then put headphones back on my ps5, will they work with the settings I changed or does it only work on pc?
Hey man . When I use these dolby setting on my a50 , it makes the sound of the weapons firing different . Why is this ? Also do you use the Astro command centre and Dolby atmos presets together ? Or one or the other ?
Any suggestions on how to get the Astro command center as I don’t have a pc or Mac…my gen 3 a50’s sound seems really low?
I use Wave Link for all my audio lines because I’m stream my gameplay on Twitch. Also I choose Wave Link in Dolby Access at my Headphone or what? I hear no difference when I take it on and off?
had no idea the sounds could change so much. I have no idea how or why this works, is this a good audio file for any games or just COD? thank you for the guide. subbed
I use it for everything, I'm glad you like it!!! Thanks so much for watching!
So, you change EQ in Dolby access on top of the changes you made on Astro Command Center, right?
So what do you recommend for a FPS shooting game for footstep?
Didn’t show up in my sound control panel at all and it also limits to 120 hz
are you using the Astro A50 Game or Astro A50 Voice from the windows sound settings please let me know
I tried the steel series, went back to Astro. I appreciate the updated video. For sure couldn’t see last one. Lol.
me too!!!
Great audio on headset but party chat says my mic volume isn’t great. Compared it to joining a party from the Xbox app.Anyway to fix that ?
Hey, I use the Astro A50 modkit leather earcups. What would be your reccomended settings for these seeing as they amplify the bass?
thx a lot but witch setting do you use in warzone audio setting ? home theatre or boost high.....?
Does Dolby access settings also work for playstation? I wanna know if I just bought this for nothing
Hey , does these eq and dolby audio settings save once u connect them to a ps4 , ps5 console?
In games that don't support Dolby Atmos, do we set the games' settings to Headphones and Surround? E.g. BFV does not support it. So I've set the audio settings to Headphones and the channels to Surround. Setting channels to auto will force it to stereo which is not what we want I think because of the audio device being a 2-channel device.
Does Dolby access work on PS5 once you customised a preset or is Dolby access only for PC use ?
Might be a dumb question but should i have my connection as astro a50 voice or astro a50 game? Or no difference? Thanks! Gonna check out your EQ settings right now.
No worries! It should be set to game. Hope it works out! Thanks for watching.
I am an old dude, and I am no good at fps shooters .I prefer single player story driven games..any good suggestions for an EQ for those sorts of games?
Just a quick qeustion : Do you have to keep those application open in order to work ?
Where can I find your wallpaper?? And if its in wallpaper engine, name please?
Hey Exique, did you also buy the Mixer??
i have a question, so can i set it up on a pc, do all these fancy settings then use it on my ps5? will my headset save all the settings
I have one recently, got connected with USB, is it beter to use Dolby cable?
Thanks for the video! It really helped me. However, I was wondering if you could help me. I downloaded the Dolby Access from the MS Store but Im not able to use it since I don't see any "Dolby Atmos" configuration in the Spatial Sound settings. I tried troubleshooting with no exit at all...
You need to subcribe in Dolby to open the features
No, read the instructions. It says to put the headphones on the deck and turn it into xbox or ps mode. After that open dolby atmos app
If you adjust these settings on the PC will they carry over if you use the A50’s on console ?
Can you tell me if that EQ settings makes it sounds better on music, movies or campaing games?
every song will be eq'd differently so this wouldnt work unless u have a specific genre you always listen to
saying that
the best eq for music is absolutely none when it comes to headsets
especially if ur listening to music for mixing and mastering purposes
What audio profile do you use in game for warzone? Boost low?
Do PS5 Astro A50 users also benefit from EQ tuning on Dolby? I know it sounds like a silly question but I am confused because PS5's 3D Audio. I am not sure how tuning with Dolby would work out. I also have only heard of Xbox and PC users getting the pass from Astrogaming and was not sure if its because PS5 gamers wouldnt benefit from this.
I have the same exact question!
Do you have a setting for best sibgle player Campaign like with bass but clear sound as well
Thanks just got the headset and friend recommended u really helpful
