- Featuring Hope Vinitsky, Jimmy Fitzgerald, Steve O'Donnell, Chris Elliott, George Meyer, Rick Scheckman, Robert Morton, Bill Wendell, Hal Gurnee, Merrill Markoe, and Steve Khan.
The concept of introducing Late Night's staff members began with three pre-taped productions called "The People Behind Late Night," all included here:
1. September 22, 1982: Hope Vinitsky*
2. October 13, 1982: Jimmy Fitzgerald
3. January 7, 1983: Steve O'Donnell**
The idea then morphed into eight "Know Your Staff" segments consisting of homebase chats with Dave (with Hal Gurnee & Bert the exception):
4. February 10, 1983: Chris Elliott***
5. February 21, 1983: George Meyer
6. May 23, 1983: Rick Scheckman
7. June 22, 1983: Robert Morton
8. August 16, 1983: Bill Wendell
9. September 12, 1983; Hal Gurnee & Bert****
10. September 27, 1983: Merrill Markoe (with a special cameo by Ed McMahon)
11. May 3, 1984: Steve Khan*****
Note: Steve Khan was never an official member of the Late Night band. For the first two years he had subbed in Hiram's absence and, during the Spring of 1984, was filling in after Hiram had left the show before Paul had begun auditioning players for the permanent guitar position.

😂 This made my day. Thanks.
The Hal dog celebrity photos is such a gem - and that was real, not a gag - I think.
I wonder why in the view chapter line it says Meryl Marco instead of Merrill Markoe?
So good. I didn't know how much I needed this. The MM seg most interesting.
Thanks Don, I've been checking out your music, I want to know more. Sounds great buddy.
Thanks, Tim!
Letterman is awesome. So are you.
55:16 aww she looks so happy
Some really interesting staff segments, especially the one with the picture of Edward G Robinson at a bar mitzvah!
this is gold
I like Dave's voice over. Maybe that's what he sounded like in His Radio Days.
Dave sounds like the narrator of those 50s era sex ed reels we were forced to watch in the 80s
So how did that engagement between Letterman and Markoe turn out?
Never were engaged. It's in the Zinoman book that they decided to say they were engaged for the "in bed" joke. From the book: "Letterman thought it would sound weird to do this bit as an unmarried couple, so he told Markoe they should say at the top that they were engaged."
steve o'donnell the original conan
I'm already aware of all of my maladys.and it's spelled 'staph'.thank you, drive thru!
Uhh, admittedly I wear hearing aids, but isn't it Howard Vinitzky? (Not Hope).
Been watching gobs of these 80s shows as I was in high school at the time. Thanks!
Howard is now Hope. I use her current name.
@@dongiller What?! Holy shit.
Well, it's all the rage these days.
@@dongiller♥️

53:33 always thought Merrill Markoe was hot
Ed McMahon FTW

Thanks Don!
8:43 that guy worked on Norm Macdonald Live, looking young af.
“That guy” is the amazing Steve O’Donnell. He was Dave’s head writer during Late Night’s most creative years. Know his name well.
@@dongiller says here he also worked on Norm's Netflix show. Very cool.
Dave should have married Merrill.
The skit versions were way better... The one on one interviews were lame and awkward....
