NOTE: Previously as an IT Engineer, and in my personal life now, I didn't/don't read any data on computers in my control unless it was/is relevant to the job. Whatever data people have is their business. Protecting it and keeping in tact is all I care about. In the video, I mention that someone like me "could" read the data, if they didn't have the same ethical standards, and not all people do. So, please protect your sensitive data.

Hi, Frank, Great video thank you for your service. You showed how to set up a live sync of your local and google cloud drive. You did not share how to disconnect that synchronization without deleting files on my local drive that I want to keep. Do you have another video covering that subject?

Hi, and thanks for these nice comments. The easiest way to disconnect synchronization with Google Drive is to go to (in the Google Drive file sync app): "preferences" then click the "settings gear icon", and then there's an option right at the top to "disconnect account".
Another way is to stop it from running at startup by typing "startup" in the Windows search/run box and then choosing "startup apps" and toggling Google Drive off.
And lastly, you can always just uninstall the Google Drive file sync app. When this is done the local Google Drive folder, and all your data, stay the same. Uninstalling the file sync app will NOT delete the data in either your local google drive folder location, or the online storage location. Those 2 data sets will remain, but they will not synchronize together anymore.

Is bitlocker built into W10 Home or W11 HOME

    • @frankwestphal8532
      @frankwestphal8532  2 месяца назад

Thank you for this good question.
Win 10 and Win 11 Home editions do NOT support bitlocker.
Typically, the Home editions of Windows operating systems do not have the advanced features that really come in handy for heavy home users, or business/professional users. Often times people start with a Home version of Windows unknowingly (usually from a big box store), and as they demand more of their systems over time, they run into built in limitations with the Home versions, and are forced to upgrade.
For this reason, I recommend always getting the Pro version of any Windows operating system to begin with. And if someone comes into possession of a new or used computer with a Home version of Windows OS on it, I recommend immediately installing a clean factory image of a Pro version.

Hi, I have new windows 11 Dell Inspiron with 256gb SSD and 1 Tb hd.
I was not able to do partition for disk D of 1 Tb hd due to bitlocker on during disk partition and shrink volume.
Due to the above by reason, I went to system and device encryption and turned off the bitlocker.
Then I had a issue it is showing as drive Decrypting and paused in the middle.
The c drive is without bitlocker due to half decrypting and is see the disk D with bitlocker on as the decrypting is paused in the middle.
Could you guide me so that I can retrieve the recovery key data or do partition in the 1 Tb harddisk.

Hi. I would re-format the D disk. If you have data on it that you want, back it all up first. It will be destroyed in the formatting process. If you can't do it in windows disk manager, you can do it with an Ubuntu live USB disk, or plug the disk in to another computer directly, or with an a SATA to USB adapter, and re-format it. Also, since bitlocker decryption failed, I would check that D disk for health, and if it's healthy consider re-installing the windows 11 operating system entirely.. It may be a disk error that cased bitlocker to fail, or corruption in the operating system. Also, diskwipe.exe should allow you to reformat that D disk very easily. After diskwipe, you should be able to see it as a blank disk again and format how you want. I would try that first because it's the easiest option, and it should work fine. And after you get that D disk formatted, be sure to check it for health so it doesn't fail on you in the near future. Here are some links to details:
      Diskwipe.exe:
      www.diskwipe.org/download.php
Ubuntu live disk creation and use:
      itsfoss.com/create-live-usb-of-ubuntu-in-windows/
External SATA drive adapter (these things are super handy to have around for cases like this... I've used mine hundreds of times) and NOTE: you need the one with external power supply for 3.5 inch disk or it will not have enough power to run he disk:
      www.amazon.com/SATA-Drive-Adapter-Converter-Power/dp/B07PVX682Q/ref=sr_1_4?crid=2WO75NYFBCCBQ&keywords=sata%2Busb%2Badapter&qid=1647441405&s=electronics&sprefix=sata%2Busb%2Badapte%2Celectronics%2C109&sr=1-4&th=1
      Check disk for health:
      hddscan.com/
And if you want to reinstall windows 11 entirely, I did a video on it:

Hi. Thanks for watching and I'm glad the disk encryption worked. Enabling bitlocker should have no effect whatsoever on shutting down. Even when the disk in not yet fully encrypted, the computer can be shut down and the encryption writing process just starts back up the next time the computer is turned on. So, something else is going on there.
One of the most common reasons for malfunctions in the operating system itself, is malware. Have you run a "malwarebytes free" scan on it? That is the very first thing I would do. Then work out from there to figure out what's going on becasue if your computer can't execute a simple shut down command, there may be serious damage to the operating system.

The following error is preventing bitlocker: failed to open the bitlocker control panel tool: error code 0x80004005
    How do I fix this?

    • @frankwestphal8532
      @frankwestphal8532  4 месяца назад

Hi, and thank you for watching. There are a number of reasons you could get this error, but the most likely one is that your computer either does not have a TPM chip, OR it has a TPM chip, but it is not enabled in your system BIOS.
The first step is to boot into your system BIOS and see if you have a TPM chip and, if you do have one, turn it on. You can look up the function key [hotkey] to get into your BIOS settings for your particular system by just google searching:
"BIOS settings function key COMPUTER MAKE COMPUTER MODEL".
For example, on a Dell computer, the hotkey to get to the BIOS settings is usually F2 hit repeatedly the moment you hit the power button on the computer starting from a completely powered OFF computer.
Once you get into your BIOS, look under security settings and in there you will see if you have a TPM chip. IF you have a TPM chip, enable TPM security and save that setting, then exit the BIOS and restart the computer. Now when you launch the bitlocker application, you should no longer get that error.
BUT you might not have a TPM chip. Not all computers have them. In this case you can still run bitlocker, but you need to "Allow BitLocker without a compatible TPM" in local group policy. I have done this a number of times in order to run bitlocker on a computer without a TPM chip. These are the exact steps to do that:
-Press Win+R to open the Run prompt.
-Type gpedit.msc and hit the Enter button.
-Navigate to this path: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > BitLocker Drive Encryption > Operating System Drives
-Double-click on the Require additional authentication at startup setting.
      -Choose the Enabled option.
-Tick the Allow BitLocker without a compatible TPM checkbox.
      -Click the OK button.
After that, close all windows of the Local Group Policy Editor, and restart your computer. You should then be able to run bitlocker without getting the error.

Hi, Thanks for your detailed reply. I have TMP activated but still get the error. I have Windows 11 Home Insider Preview. Can that be the problem?@@frankwestphal8532
