I think you should put an outside door in the utility that accesses to the side of the house. Call it a ‘Boot Rm’! Really helps with dogs/muddy wellies from the garden, etc. Have some glazing in it and you’ll get some natural light in there too, and block up the existing window. It’s a really good size utility so losing some cupboard/worktop space to create the access wouldn’t be the end of the world. 👊👍
Little tip. When putting plastic rawl plugs into the wall, push in beyond the tile otherwise you risk cracking the tile when tightening the screw. Best of luck!
Another great video guy’s, I was bloody knackered just watching you all. Your so lucky to have such amazing friends, true friends like that are something to be treasured! Have a great week & I look forward to the bathroom reveal, which is really lovely by the way. 😊❤
The water in the trench could be a problem, because the paving in front of the wall could end up a swimming pool you might be better of putting in a drain or 2 and attach to the mains drain
I am absolutely loving your vlogs on this build. I love that they're not too chatty and to the point while still adding in your personalities and fun stuff. Top work guys. 👏
In NZ we have a service that is free and is called before you dig, and you have to apply on line to all utilities if where you are going to dig, and they send you where are their pipes are located. That way there are no issues 😊
The utility might be smaller than planned but it's still really big for a utility room! It'll look great. And removing that window means you get more storage space. I want a corner cupboard now.
Really enjoying this series so far. Have been with you since the "Nicki the bricky" original episode and love getting the weekly progress updates. Also these videos allow me to be inspired on what I could do with my property. The determination and motivation you both have is very commendable.
Hard work on manual footings. Been there, done that. Bit shallow on the first footing though, round here its 1.5m for any foundations in clay (the fens).
And that's for a normal build, not retaining a huge amount of earth! We have all seen smaller retaining walls struggled to hold back wet earth, this is meters of the stuff and you can see how much water is draining through it. A retaining wall like this should really be designed by an engineer.
Loving this series already. So interesting to watch all the things you have to do 😂 and when things go wrong. Keep up the amazing work and great filming. 😊
Well done to everyone involved on this mammoth task. What a fantastic team! The images of the utility look wonderful! Roll on next Sunday. Take good care! 😊❤x
Ahh, can go about the rest of my Sunday now, have caught up on this week's progress! A bit stressful and knackering, but good progress just the same! Champion effort as always - mind you, I see Alfie's luck hasnt changed... lol! Have a great weekend, see you Sunday! 🎉🥰
I enjoy your videos so much. They are so uplifting. What tough work digging the trench, then having to bail it out, and all that cement poor you guys must’ve been so exhausted. It’s going to be well worth it though. I look forward to your videos every week. 😊❤
This evening I randomly thought “What happened to Nicky & Harri?”, hadn’t seen a video since June. Happy to discover 8 videos which I just binged! Wow 🤩, incredible what you guys have achieved already, well done 👍 👏 ❤️.
Maybe you should add the gas pipe location to the house plans so in future you or anyone else dosent do it again 😊maybe a measurement from the house to the pipe just and idea 😊
@@NickyandHarri u r welcome! Also guys, I’ve just figured out how to make cute round windows very cheap ( it’s smth u wanted but considered it expensive). One DIY blogger went to the website/shop for professional bakers and bought shiny metal round form for baking ( they have different sizes) and plastic see through form for baking as a glass inside. Fixed it inside the wall and it actually looks awesome. So if u r ready for a real DIY I can send a picture of the result)😅😉
My dad was all self taught, he taught me and my brother, his main ethos is always "why pay a lot for one job, when you can learn a lot and do it all yourself"
Loving this series! Quick q did you guys need to get any survey to determine if house was a flood risk with such a deep slope from the main road? Keep up the great work!!
What about just moving that window in the utility room to the back wall? Roughly where currently the range hood is and you're planning to put some top cabinets :)
Great viewing after a day of painting to make me feel less knackered in comparison! Also definitely don’t let them take all the metal away for the boiler unless they’re taking money off the bill. There’s several quids worth of copper there
you could've turned it into a bar. hand food through to the patio. drink at etc. modern bifold window. i'd hate to lose the light in there. (i couldn't do a windowless room unless it was for storage).
Which is easier? Building fresh or renovating old? Our neighbor is doing the same as you (but with contractors) and hes 10 months in and STILL not done, meanwhile we are 6 months in and are getting our siding on today 😊 Best wishes on things going smoothly. But it will be a good feeling knowing where you started and seeing how it all finishes out!
Keep up the good work, it’s hard but you’re totally going to enjoy the benefits in the end. Love the corner pantry too, have one on order due to be delivered 2nd November along with the rest of the kitchen. 🎉😂
How are the retaining walls being built? The foundations seem a little shallow and you havent put rebar in to tie the wall in? The water gathering just shows how much water is travelling through that soil. It will take a lot of weight and strength to hold that back even with drains taking the water away.
The 1960s Bathroom is gone, now looking modern, In addition I would have added a new light with the new mirror above the basin and provided a shaver outlet, very useful for an electric toothbrush, is there an extraction fan in the bathroom?
@23:55 Bathroom is taking shape, I still feel the ship is spoiled for a ha'p'orth of tar with the boxed area right up adjacent to the toilet pan, this will get human and flush spatter from the pan, proper cleaning around the base will also be awkward.
I saw one of your videos recommending Skirting World Skirting Board Covers, and want to thank you. Im getting my first house soon and the skirting boards are micro sized. I'll definitely be grabbing me a bunch of these! Will you be needing them on this build?
Wow just came across you channel love it I live in rg6 love to know your location ( just the first bit of postcode for your security ) does you tube enable you to do this full time thanks Billy
looks like natural water flowing through the ground, probably under the water table for the hill. Im surprised the poured the cement with all of that water
Hi, just stumbled across this as my partner and I are on a similar mission, I was surprised to see you in our local area! Would be amazing to get in touch as we are newbies 😅
you still doing the idea i gave u in the last 2 video ago i said "you hade idea i hade have a wall out bck and steps going down i hade same idea soon i saw it seems good idea and have lights on the steps to side of it like one built in to steps" in back garden
Great content proving that not all 25 year olds fall in the stereotype older people would love you to be in. No criticism here just a little tip.. I know it’s difficult but when facing camera try to not look just off camera possibly at the screen maybe, I can see your both trying not too and that effort is appreciated.
Isn't that stereotyping older people? As a 69 year old most of the content I watch is young people doing stuff I wish I could still do. Don't assume older people are all the same
There's a hole in my bucket, dear Liza, dear Liza, there's a hole in my bucket, dear Liza, a hole! Harry Belafonte circa 1956, that gives you some idea how old I am!
You’re putting a gas boiler in? In 2024? You have the perfect opportunity to revamp the central heating for a heat pump/air con system with MVHR - hell you have a big enough garden for ground source even if you don’t want air source - and you’re just gonna have to switch over from gas in a few years anyway! Just think how nice that extension could be with underfloor heating too…
Don't let British Gas take the old boiler. Lots of copper to weigh in

The gas pipe hit made us chuckle! We did the same thing 2 years ago, same road! Where you turn left, we’re right, a few doors down from you!! Mj

Sunday morning started right 👏🏼 FYI Keep the copper boiler and pipe…boiler is worth good money at the scrappy 😜 usually £3-4 a KG

Saws and chain saws will blunt instantly if you hit soil or stone with them. Best not to use them getting tree roots out !

What kind of roof are you planning to put on ? If you are keeping the current one, I suggest to spray it ASAP with moss and mould killer 😊
Another fantastic video, I could watch your videos all day keep up the great work.
Awh thanks Kevin 🥰
OMG that bucket with holes in it was like a colander....keep up the vids, spurring me on.

Great progress on the front garden, such hard work guys. The ideas for the utility room look fabulous. Xx

Buy a small sump pump to switch on and pump out the water in to the local storm water drains drains
All this work you guys are doing earning so much experience along the way.... At such young age! Well done.
Thanks so much, we do love what we do 😅

Driveway first is risky. Easy to damage during later works. I learned the hard way
Probably won’t make it perfect, just some room for some parking to begin with!
Great video again. Chainsaw blunt because you were cutting into the dirt when doing the stumps. Quickest way to blunt a chain!
Huge W for having so nice neighbours
Massive dub 👍🏻😅

Apology accepted- it was quite funny 😂
Make a balcony on top of the kitchen extension

Id have gone and got a dirty water pump from screwfix really cheap. Done in a couple of minutes.

Hi, great work so far! I am wondering, do you pay your friends for helping you out?
We do indeed, but they do it very cheap for us 😅
Yes save the birch 👌👌
Did you consider going for a heat pump and solar panels instead of a combi boiler?

do not let anyone take the copper it is about £6 A KG now will get you some money back

Hey lovely 😃
great progress ! thx for making this content
No problem at all 😅
What are your plans for drainage for the retaining wall? I think most people build the drainage trench at the same time as the footing.
We’ll be digging out a little trench for some guttering to drain the water!
Wow just came across you channel love it I live in rg6 love to know your location ( just the first bit of postcode for your security ) does you tube enable you to do this full time thanks Billy
Crazy that you've not put a sub base down before the concrete!!! Especially with all that water!
