My four all-time favorite musical numbers from this movie have always been: The Riff-Off(15:58 - 18:13) , the Bellas "Pool Mashup"(34:55 - 35:40), and the Treblemakers and Bellas finals(36:59 - 40:42). 😊
I always liked that Jesse was so emotionally healthy. Like "I like you a lot...but boundaries are real, and if we're together I expect you to be kind to me." ❤
My favorite fun fact with this movie is Ester Dean, who played Cynthia-Rose "the lesbian", sang S&M during the riff off, a song she herself cowrote for Rihanna a year before
Seeing Greg not being able to control himself is so cool, I worked at a movie theater when this movie came out and would sneak in to watch it during my shift all the time, one of my favorites
I'm so glad Greg GOT IT. he had the exact same experience watching this movie as we the girlies did back in 2012. in hindsight, the movie has bizarrely and hilariously problematic jokes but they really nailed the music and Anna Kendrick's voice brings chills to even toughest of grumps
the problematic jokes honestly elevate it for me. just the insane out of pocket remarks throughout the movie when you least expect them get me every time
I don't think the jokes were problematic. The movie is silly and the characters are supposed to be goofy. The movie cracks jokes about itself and it regards its own absurdity head-on, but in a lighthearted way. I love it.
Greg’s chills and holding back tears is called collective effervescence and it’s pretty amazing it still works across media like film without even having to be there.
It’s so easy to get annoyed with Aubrey, but I have to always remind myself that she has a military dad who is very strict and is played as the typical ‘if you’re not the best, then what’s the point of doing it’ type. No participation awards with those kinds of dads. He’s the ‘you always have to be the best at what you do, otherwise you’re a failure’ kinda guy. My half siblings military dad is the same. Which explains why his daughter is such an anxiety riddled mess who freaks out and panics if even one little thing goes wrong.
Lilly really does have the best lines. There is a line in Pitch Perfect 3 that genuinely had me crying in the theater because it was so ridiculous but also very on brand for her character.
So glad you get the Brittany Snow/ Anna Kendrick chemistry in it! They ended up winning an award for best movie chemistry and there's a crazy amount of people who ship their characters - never google Bechloe, it'll take you down the rabbit hole.
Selfish take: I hope you and Sally can react to the second one sometime soon, and don't have to wait for her to visit again. I just can't wait for you guys to watch the sequels.
The arranger for Pentatonix did work on this movie and PTX made a cameo in the second one, along with a bunch of other groups that competed on the Sing Off.
Skylar Astin and Ben Platt are the highlights of this movie for me. Both starred in some of my favourite musicals, Dear Even Hansen and Spring Awakening, and watching them together (plus Anna Kendrick) is my idea of a Infinity War level crossover hahaha
If you really want to be blown away by Anna Kendrick’s singing (and also cry for an entire film), you should watch The Last Five Years, truly an incredible musical, one of my favorite soundtracks to listen to!
Seeing Greg absolutely loving music themed movies/shows makes me want to see him react to Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. Skylar Astin is also in that one. 😂
Elizabeth Banks produced the first Pitch Perfect and directed Pitch Perfect 2. AND John Michael Higgins (male commentator) has also been in acapella since his college days. ❤
I saw this multiple times in theaters and that ending scene left me feeling the same joy that you did, Greg! Something about it just hit the spot and brings a slight joy-filled tear to the eye.
The fact that you guys don’t know Skylar Astin is is absolutely bananas to me. Love that man, he’s in one of my favorite shows Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist (also a musical)!
Fun fact: Vader isn't technically father in German, the word is actually "Vater" so very close but not exactly the same. The spelling "Vader" is actually Dutch, but there it's pronounced very differently than the English do it with Darth Vader. Still, as a German, I did indeed guess the plot twist before I ever saw Star Wars bc of that close association lol Fun reaction, thank you!
I need y To watch the second movie I watched the fisrt one just last week for the first time and became obsessed but have no way to watch the second one
CAN’T wait for you to watch the second one. The first movie will always have a special place in my heart but the second one is also sooooooo good AND Pentatonix IS briefly in that one ❤️
What makes this movie so great is not just that they are the peak of comedy in musicals, it’s the nostalgia and warm of falling in love with this characters and loving people that loves music
Fun fact: the reason the Aussie guy at the radio station said Becca could take the night shift was explained in a deleted scene. He asked Becca to go party with him or something along those lines and at that club, he told Becca that Jesse (Skylar Astin's character, roommates with Ben Platt) had talked very highly of her music and really grilled him about letting her do it, so that's something I feel is worth noting.
YAY! Salllyyyy! Always a fun time with her (looking forward to the MJ short film)! This movie pleasantly surprised me, as well ,when I first saw it a couple years ago. A fun, feel-good, easy watch, with some great talent and mash-ups. Great reaction, you two. I adore your intros together.😂 So much fun.
Skylar Astin is in Zoey’s extraordinary playlist and I know you would love it. Its a feel good show kinda like Ted lasso and it’s a musical It’s so good. Makes me cry so much at the end of season 1
This movie definitely came out of nowhere. I remember sitting down like what is this about and me and family loved it. And yeah Elizabeth Banks and the another announcer are very underrated in this movie. All their one liners are great.
I just realized that Chloe wasn’t with the girls in that final scene there. Because she supposedly was gonna graduate. So they wrote her back in for the sequel.
It's sooo good seeing someone enjoy this movie the same way as me. The final performance still makes me emotional every time. I really hope you get to react to the second one together as well, it has its flaws but I love it just as much. There's some really fun surprises in there ;)
I absolutely loved Greg's reaction and how he felt soo happy at the end🤣💕💕. Sally was the a great watching buddy because she was soo chill and went with the flow.
I was just about to recommend Crazy Ex-Girlfriend to Greg when he realized Skylar was in it and flat out recommended it himself. The reason why Pitch Perfect is *my* second favorite movie IS the humor. It came out right at the tail end of my uni life and it got SO MANY things right. 😂 I think it's the Bridesmaids for the collegiate crowd. The hot TA-type who forgets about your existence because they think they're adults now, the prejudiced international roomie, the uber-horniness, it's all PERFECT! 👌
The fact that so many people don't know who Skylar Astin is (Jesse), a literal Broadway star, really bothers me. He's also been in tv series and other movies. But he's pure talent and no one recognizes him. It would be one thing if they didn't recognize any Broadway stars but that's where they know Ben Platt from. Also, Anna Kendrick got her start on Broadway as a child star.
I'm sorry but Greg is cute 😂. Like watching his reaction was so entertaining and this was one of my favorite movies because it's so unserious but still amazing. Also the fact hes watched Crazy Ex Girlfriend caught me off guard since not many people talk about it.
This movie will always be a favourite watch of mine. I saw the trailer back in like 2012 here in Australia & was like a musical, the girl from twilight & Rebel Wilson? Hell yeah. Always have fun watching it & fun song choices. The Trebles are my faves love me some Skylar Astin & Ben Platt. Also in #2 Ben and Skylar were meant to be used a bit more but they changed some of the script after filming & had to refilm somethings bc they cut out storylines so they aren't in it as much.
I have waited for one of my fav reaction channels to react to this movie for a long time, finally! i loved this movie so much. Watched it first as a 12 yr old girl and still loving it now that im 22
I genuinely loved your reaction to this and how much you two enjoyed this. Took me back to my first time watching this in theaters, and how much I enjoyed it. Thank you, really didn't know how much I needed this today. I always appreciate your genuine reactions to stuff. Not a spoiler, but Pitch Perfect 2 and 3 are not as good as this. This one is a classic. But they are still worth a watch. Cause I am here for yalls reaction!
That’s a bold take, considering most of the fandom seems to put the second one above the first one. But, I too, think the first is the best and the third one is honestly second best to me-I know, that’s a hot take lmao
Around the 40 min mark you talked about how the Aubrey character had her hair down and didn’t a few seconds before, she litteraly took her hair out and shook it out.
This has been one of my favorite videos to watch so far this year. Dude. Your genuine reaction was refreshing and awesome, and if you do others like this, I'll watch them too. Keep that shit up! Lol
"I love Anna Kendrick" relatable ngl but. . I MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE LIKE 2 POSTERS OF HER.. okay maybe 4... BUT LIKE CAN YOU BLAME ME!? SHE IS GORGEOUS, AN AMAZING ACTRESS AND SO GOOD AT SINGING!!!
11:05 ......aaaaaand, that is where I fell in love with Anna. I had a classmate in middle school who looked just like her, and was trying SO HARD not to think of her when I watched this movie. after this scene, I couldn't help it anymore. She's too talented and TOO GENUINE to not be liked.
I love this movie, so hilarious with great musical numbers. So many great one liners too. I think Elizabeth banks and John Micheal Higgins characters (the commentators) have the funniest lines.
i grew up watching the movie and over the years i slowly realized how.... not good... it was compared to stage productions lol my mom loves gerard butler in it (a very controversial take, i know,) but she got the 25th anniversary dvd for christmas a few years ago and we watch it yearly now! such an iconic musical
Skylar Astin was in Zooey's Extraordinary Playlist, the criminally underrated and cancelled too soon musical TV series starring the also criminally underrated, always versatile Jane Levy!
I'm just like Greg. I just love LOVE that movie. All my guy friends don't get it, but to me the humor is great and it feels just like some of the best sports movies. edit: and oh yeah, Anna Kendrick is amazing!
Skylar Astin was also one of the originals in Spring Awakening with Lea Michele and Jonathan Goff. He did an episode of Girls. These were the early appearances. He has the most effortless belt. Next to Ben Platt of course. Who is just a vocal genius. Aaaand theater geeking out. Anyway. Anna Kendrick is fabulous as always. I’m glad y’all watched this and laughed when things were funny. Whether it’s something the hyper offensive crowd would riot over. It’s a movie. It’s funny. That’s all. ❤
In case no one has mentioned it yet, Pentatonix is actually in the sequel! I'm pretty mixed on these movies overall given the everything about them but when PTX showed up in the sequel I was ALL IN
The guy who played Luke that British guy in the place she worked plays Vigilante in peacemaker. I didn’t recognize him until my fourth rewatch but it’s great to see his range.
Waiting for 2 and 3rd movie reaction... perfect reaction... actually anna wanted her character and Britt's to be end game(bechloe got best chemistry award also in mtv awards) so she refused to do certain other love interest things and even Filmed a kiss in 3rd one with Britt by tricking the crew but they cut that didn't even give it in the dvd also.. and also everyone sang their part all of the cast are singers...Britt is even famous for her role in hairspray, she also sang portion in most of her movies like X, American dreams etc Like Skylar, Britt also has a singing vedio for "crazy ex girlfriend" song- research me obsessively..she also do funny Christmas and valentine's day vedio songs in the "do or die" channel
I remember going to watch this randomly with my friends in highschool and instantly became one if my favorites we would sing all the songs in choir for the rest of the year…it cane out in September 😂
Aww love the reaction! Pitch Perfect was a MOMENT when it first came out. I definitely think you do some musicals! Hamilton, RENT, In The Heights, West Side Story (remake is really good), The Greatest Showman, etc.

8:54 Anna and Brittany were actually butt naked because it was so hot when they filmed this scene, that’s how confident these ladies are 😂
It's "Vater" in german, so it's close. She actually meant dutch though - vader is dutch for father, so yes. It's pretty telling 😂
Great movie, great reaction guys. Well done! 💯✨
Waiting for 2 and 3rd movie reaction... perfect reaction... actually anna wanted her character and Britt's to be end game(bechloe got best chemistry award also in mtv awards) so she refused to do certain other love interest things and even Filmed a kiss in 3rd one with Britt by tricking the crew but they cut that didn't even give it in the dvd also.. and also everyone sang their part all of the cast are singers...Britt is even famous for her role in hairspray, she also sang portion in most of her movies like X, American dreams etc
Like Skylar, Britt also has a singing vedio for "crazy ex girlfriend" song- research me obsessively..she also do funny Christmas and valentine's day vedio songs in the "do or die" channel
No one comments on how GOOD Skylar Astins voice is, I really love him in this movie, so dreamy honestly
