The pacing in this trilogy is whack. This movie in particular did NOT need to have two different versions, since it had so little story left to tell. The theatric cut is still long and doesn't tie many of the threads. I would actually recommend a an edit that was made that turned all three movies into one. By Maple Films I think was the name. When you look up the behind the scenes stories about The Hobbit trilogy and all of the problems that they had to adapt to on the fly the real question isn’t how did so much go wrong. the real question is how did so much go right!
It’s just unfortunate. Peter Jackson had 3 years to prep everything for lord of the rings. With everything that happened with Del Toro, he only had about 13 months of prep for this trilogy. Plus it was t something he ever expected to do. He still had been thinking about making lord of the rings since he became a director. What I wouldn’t give for there to have never been legal hell surrounding these movies. Guillermo Del Toro had a plan for 2 movies. The Hobbit: There, and The Hobbit: Back Again. It would have been perfect
The Five Armies are: - Movie: Elves; Men; Dwarves; Dol Guldur Orcs; Gundabad Orcs with goblin mercenaries. - Book: Elves; Men; Dwarves; Orcs; Wild Wolves (Wargs). The Great Eagles don't get counted in either the book or film.
The extended version answers your questions. I love it more every time I watch it. The reason that Thranduil wanted the white gems was because he ordered the necklace for his wife before she was killed. Please watch the extended version because so much of the Hobbit is referenced in LOTR. Also three of the dwarves played orcs in LOTR.
She-ject Army!! I'm just starting the video now. Yeah, don't mind the haters. Many of us have read the books for decades or watched the movies for decades or whatever and you guys are relatively new. I'm just glad you guys are enjoying the journey~

Azog and his Orc armies just went for a very enthusiastic walk and asked the Dwarfs, Elves and Men of Dale how's their health plans. Apparently it was great.
25:45 An Elk played by a Horse named Moose. Lee Pace from behind the scenes footage-”I ride in on an elk, played by a horse named Moose. Moose is the biggest horse in New Zealand. I had this one day when I was shooting with him where I would say my line. He could feel it coming and would start kind of moving out of his mark. And it would never fail. I would say “We have come to tell you”, and then he would start moving.” One of my fave pointless facts😂
Of all the three Hobbit movies, I feel like if you don’t watch the extended of this one specifically, you miss so much information and important scenes! I think y’all should watch the extended’s some time to fill in the gaps! 😊
So a wee background tidbit on the White Council fight; most of the Rings of Power were actually present there. The nine ghosts they were all fighting were the Nazgul from Lord of the Rings, just without their cloaks (nine rings), and the three Elven rings were wielded by Elrond, Galadriel, and Gandalf in that fight. EDIT: You should absolutely watch the 1977 Hobbit. It's far closer to the spirit of the book than the trilogy was.
Well, except for the terrible design of the Wood-elves in the Rankin/Bass special. And it's so short that both Beorn and the Arkenstone get cut out entirely.
I know others in your channel but if you want more from this universe check out Rings of Power. Galadriel is one of the main characters and dives much in sight into her and Elrond. It’s about how Sauron came into power.
In Norse mythology, the character Fafnir, often described as being a dwarf, becomes so greedy that he ends up turning into a dragon after stealing a magic ring and hoard of gold. This was a major inspiration for Tolkien when creating Smaug and Gollum because they embody obsessive greed. On a different note, when Gandalf talks to Bilbo about the magic ring, I don't believe he knew it was the One Ring itself
The saddest thing is elves only ever love once that's why Legolas's dad told him his mother loved him more than anything because at that point he felt like nobody loved him his love fell for a dwarf and his father loved his mother so hearing at least somebody loved him is kinda touching
The key difference between a person who watches a movie for pure entertainment and a person who watches a movie to be captivated by the story is in their level of engagement and appreciation for different aspects of the film. Although Roxy and Tara aren’t the type to get completely captivated by the story lore it’s great to see them engaged and thrilled for all lotr movies 🙌🏼
Yeah, agreed; and At 15:05, I want to know what kind of "o-rama" he is -- they bleeped out Tara's word choice. Now we'll never know, and the fate of Middle-Earth rests on it!
And Thorin Oakenshield had his final redemption. According to the book, he was buried with the Arkenstone over the chest, and with his legendary sword Orcrist, the goblin-cleaver. In his farewell... I always cry. A true KING. PD: In the theatrical version, scenes like Thorin´s funeral, weren´t included in the footage. That was a real shame. We only saw these scenes in the extended version later.
I enjoy the fact that it consists of the same traditions of Beowulf and other Nordic cultures methods of burial, which was a primary source for Tolkien in creating his mythology. It truly demonstrates the heroic-elegy that is paramount to Middle-Earth and the way it valorizes such acts of bravery.
The weird look that Gandalf gave him at the end is probably when he decided to have the rangers start protecting the shire. It’s something that’s really only in the books but there was a reason Strider knew who they were in Brie.
1:19:49 some clarity, he knew he found a ring, but he didn’t know it was the One. If Gandalf knew it was the One Ring, he would have 100% confiscated it right away
Even Gandalf didn't suspect that Bilbo's little doo-dad was the One Ring until around the time of Bilbo's birthday party. The Elves of Eregion made many lesser rings, mere essays in the craft. And Saruman the White had assured him and the rest of the White Council that the Master Ring was forever lost--washed into the Sea long ago.
It's not in the movies but Dain Ironfoot honored Thorins bargain with Bard and the people of Laketown and there were peace and good trade between Dale and Erebor
Loved these reactions !!!! Love these movies so much !!! Kili and Tauriel was also my favorite thing from the hobbit movies, I just wish they lived happily ever after together.
I love the trivia about Lee Pace's elk! As a kid in Wyoming, my grandpa's friend (a Shoshone tribal member with the amazing name of Dick Thunder) taught me how to ride horses on a grumpy old appaloosa named Moose!
In this, I really love two side characters, Ryan Gage as Alfrid is great and the great Billy Connolly as Dain. The finale always hits a little, the last interaction between Legolas and his father, and Bilbo sobbing on Thorin's body is good acting.
People dont give the credit these movies deserve. They compare them with the LOTR trilogy which is so much unfair. They were wonderful movies, a fantastic story and with a beautiful message.
There are also a lot of changes and additions that irritate many fans of the books. Some of those changes have consequences for the history of Middle-earth. For example: if the Ringwraiths were imprisoned in tombs in the Misty Mountains then what happened to the last King of Gondor?
A fun little bit of trivia is that in the time it takes to watch all three parts of this Hobbit trilogy back to back you can read the book they are based on 27 times.
Maybe here, at least. In Tolkien's legendarium, Saruman falls under Sauron's will around the year 3000 (Third Age) when he attempts to make use of the Orthanc-stone (the palantir of Isengard).
Alfred's death was poetic in the extended edition, there was also more of the other dwarves fighting & thorin kili and fili funeral was emotional . It also shows Dain being crowned king. I think the extended versions are always worth it. Benedict was the voice of Smaug, he also did the voice of Sauron for the Hobbit movies. The most often question asked by people who only know the movies is were are all the dwarves extra during the war of the rings. They were all fighting off different armies on their own boarders, at Erebor, Dáin II Ironfoot, was still king and King Brand grandson of Bard fought together to protect their people. When King Brand fell Dain stood over his body to protect it & continued to fight until he too fell. Showing that the friendship between the King Brand, the Dwarves of Erebor, the people in Dale & Bard & his descendents was great.
At least the Battle of Five Armies fight scenes weren't bad compared to the Battle of Winterfell with White Walkers wyere everything is so dark and can't be seen.
This is one of my favorite franchises and I usually make it a point to watch all six extended versions over the holidays, starting on Thanksiving. This year was really busy for me, so I didn't get to it. It was nice watching you guys watch them, and I'm so glad you had fun with them. These are such great movies, and your guys' reactions to them are awesome. Can't wait to see what you watch next!
alfred was actually the only guy close to the master who actually said shall we not save the town lool he dies in a bad bad way in the deleted scenes too
In the book, however, Bilbo was also given two small chests of gold by King Dain, one filled with gold, the other with silver. Then Bilbo and Gandalf dug up the trolls' treasure on the way home.
Yaya! I timed it right, started watching LOTR and the 2 Hobbit movies. Love this series! So happy for the props to Lee Pace as Thranduil, I wiah here was more of him. I watched a lot of the behind the scenes and that being 6000 yrs old, he is an expert fighter. Anyway, thank you She-Jects!
I take the “little man in a wide world” moment as Gandolf warning Bilbo that he doesn’t know the immense ungodly unfathamble amount of evil he’s gambling with. That Bilbo thinks what he saw outside the shire in these films is crazy and evil. But Gandolf is saying the amount of craziness and danger out coming to middle earth is so immense that Bilbo won’t be able to deal with it. And the Ring will bring about that “unknown world” to him eventually.
As a LORD OF THE RINGS mega-nerd I had a bit of a chuckle when an extra runs by yelling: "They've taken Stone Street!!" Stone Street is the street in Wellington where they have their movie studios. Where they were probably filming at that very moment.
If you read the books start with The Hobbit. "Peter Jackson released "The Lord of the Rings" before "The Hobbit" because he secured the film rights to the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy first, and its epic scope and complex narrative were considered more cinematic and commercially viable, making it a more attractive project to studios, which then allowed him to later pursue "The Hobbit" after the huge success of the LOTR trilogy; essentially, the success of LOTR opened the door to making "The Hobbit" films. " Google
Thorin’s father was alive, he was the dwarf Gandalf ran into at Dul Guldur, right before Gandalf was captured and Sauron revealed himself. He was the dwarf who had the last remaining dwarven ring of power(originally Thrain had it, Thorin’s grandfather)
They didn’t react to the extended cut of Desolation of Smaug, so they didn’t see that part. I wish more reactors would do extended cut and director’s cut versions of films out there.
I only watched the Hobbit in the theater, plus this reaction. But the way I understood dragon sickness, which I am starting to doubt if the movie paints it just like I understood is: Do you know when you get injured by your car and sue the manufacturer? How big would the settlement need to be for you to start thinking: "I'm glad I lost my hand for these 20 million", what if your loved one dies at an amusement park, how much money would seem like a blessing? 100 million? What about a billion? The mountain had so much gold it paid reparations for all suffering that ever was or ever would be. For every struggle there is a weight in gold that would make all things right. And that is how much gold the dragon was hoarding, infinite riches to appease all sorrows.
17:37 you misunderstood.. Galadriel completed the puzzle " Nine ring for Mortal men"... And she saw the truth.. Those ghosts are the Nine ring keeper.. Nazguls.. Remember Gandalf went to a tomb at last film and met the Radagast (other wizard) and Gandalf saw that Nine Ring keeper men doesnt in their tombs..Someone took them out of their graves and resurrected them... Those are Nazgul's...
The "uncloaked" Nazgul, whom appear as invisible and terrifying spectres that will drive mortals insane from their very presence. However, the mighty (Elves and Wizards) can see them even when they're not in their physical forms we know from The Lord of the Rings.
The extended edition of this answers the question of what happens to the arkenstone. Balin was Gimli's cousin and the lord of Moria that he talked about and found out had been killed in Fellowship. Ori, the dwarf with the bowel cut was the dwarven corpse that was holding the book Gandalf read from in Fellowship of the Ring.
He's been looking at that map for the past 60 yrs straight. It's such a touching ending bc it really is all Bilbo thinks about. Think about it. All the times he saved the dwarves. Stealing the Arkenstone from Smaug. Facing an enraged Thorin. Seeing Erebor. Meeting Gollum. Finding the ring. Finding out what Gandalf means and so much more. All this on his mind and no one to relate to for 60 yrs. Legolas wasn't meant to be in the Fellowship. He just happened to be in Rivendell. The movie kinda misleads us on that. As far as I remember there are no interpersonal relationships between elves and dwarves. There's actually only 3 amongst elves and men, including Arwen and Aragorn.
I dunno if yall will see this but I super want you to know that Billy Boyd (Pippin) is the voice actor for Glenn/Glenda in chucky!!! And Grima Wormtongue was Chucky!!! Regarding Lee Pace; I used to work in a super small bay town in Canada (for one summer) and Lee Pace stayed in the building I worked in for the night, and I wasn't working that day 😭😭😭 apparently he came down for breakfast and was really nice. I was so rotted that I missed him! Also Roxy I loved your analogy of the hobbit movies being a desert after a lord of the rings meal; it makes me feel less critical of them.

The problem here is the difference between the books and the films.
“Dragon Sickness” isn’t just magic greed, but an actual curse laid on a dragon’s hoard by the dragon itself as a defensive measure; and the Dwarf Rings inspire greed and wrath in dwarves: the problem is, in the books, Thror never really went mad.
Thror died when he fell into a trap at the gates of Moria trying to reclaim the seemingly empty fortress, where he was beheaded by Azog, culminating in a massive war, Azog’s beheading, and Thorin gaining his nickname “Oakenshield”. As the other comments state, Thrain took his Ring with him on a quest to Erebor, got captured and tortured by Sauron, and had the ring confiscated.

But it still fell short unfortunately
@ they’re still good. Certainly better than that animated movie.
I definitely wanted to watch these reactions as a palette cleanser after watching war of rohirrim.
The Five Armies are:
- Movie: Elves; Men; Dwarves; Dol Guldur Orcs; Gundabad Orcs with goblin mercenaries.
Exactly!❤❤❤
Yeah I can’t stand that they feel the need to explain themselves every video because a few bad apples.
Percocet poppin wine moms deserve the hate imo
There’s plenty of reactors out there not stumbling through life in a stupor like these bimbos…
and if they’re so burnt out on reactions maybe they should get real jobs, or take a break from this stuff.
When channels get too big that’s when quality usually divebombs
I didn’t know a single name when I first watched lotr and the hobbit lol I had to watch them multiple times to understand most things
People will call anyone who criticizes a “hater”, I can tell you live a sheltered life. 😂
I would say “We have come to tell you”, and then he would start moving.”
One of my fave pointless facts😂
I've watched the outtakes of this. It is quite funny.
Tara- "Is it a bulletproof thing...?"
This is middle earth my girl...there are no guns...
Usually I really dont care when people dont recognize easter eggs and references but man my heart sank when you didn't recognize Mithril
And don’t listen to the haters, they are wrong. never listen to the purists, they are so caught up in their feelings that they think they own the IPs.
Been waiting for this, Roxy was pissed at the first movie about the dwarves pulling up and clearing Bilbo out.
Wait till you see what Thorin does! 😂
End? No, the journey doesn't end here. The extended editions are just another path, one that we all must take.
💖 the journey only gets better with the extended editions.
12:31 "Alfred SUCKS bro" lmao. I love you guys!
Yeah, agreed; and At 15:05, I want to know what kind of "o-rama" he is -- they bleeped out Tara's word choice. Now we'll never know, and the fate of Middle-Earth rests on it!
1:18:16 The eye roll when Roxy says "Thank you for finally acknowledging it" 😂😂
And Thorin Oakenshield had his final redemption.
47:54 Your average toddler when they learn to walk.
Loved these reactions !!!! Love these movies so much !!! Kili and Tauriel was also my favorite thing from the hobbit movies, I just wish they lived happily ever after together.
That’s how where it all started in the end. Such a great prequel trilogy compared to the originals.
All the extras with this trilogy are awesome. Lake town was a cool ass set. I have the extended edition its like 15 disks.
I knew they’d portray themselves as victims because people point out flaws with their reactions.
Grow up, not everyone is a hater.
Yes, you didn't read the book, but from watching this far, at least remember the past events to these prequel 😂
Ha! You guys doing the five army bit was like Bob and Doug McKenzie trying to figure out the 12 days of Christmas.
“And a beer…in a tree! 😂
i feel like the extended edition of this film was made for you guys! you need to go back and watch all the extended versions.
17:07 in the extended version she tears him to pieces in this scene
thank you for all of these videos, they helped me get through a rather miserable December, i looked forward to each one and enjoyed each one.
Saruman doesn't have it in his soul right now. When he goes to confront Sauron, that's when it happens.
I love when Galadriel went Super Saiyan and kamehameha'ed Sauron back into Mordor
Love these reactions, i love these movies as much as the lord of the eings
Having now watched this a 2nd time (first was in theaters') all of that entire ending hits a lot more on rewatch.
alfred was actually the only guy close to the master who actually said shall we not save the town lool he dies in a bad bad way in the deleted scenes too
The end of the road!! Happy Ya’ll enjoyed yourselves!
Yay ive been waiting all week u go girls love yall happy holidays super chixs
The mount of Thranduil, is an Irish Elk (Megalocerus Giganteus) an exstinct spiece of stag that lived during the Pleistocen era.
The Box of gold, Bilbo talked about was buried in the first movie after the Ogres got turned to stone.
In the book, however, Bilbo was also given two small chests of gold by King Dain, one filled with gold, the other with silver. Then Bilbo and Gandalf dug up the trolls' treasure on the way home.
I was also hoping Roxy would recognize the elf king as Garret from Twilight lol 😂
did you even understand that thranduil is father of legolas? not just his boss
The Battle of the Five armies is a great battle. I'm glad you both enjoyed the Hobbit trilogy 💯🔥
The Rankin Bass animated Hobbit movie is a much more faithful adaptation of the book, definitely wouldn't be amiss to react to it in the future.
I hope they do, the rotoscoped graphics are really cool, and it would really bookend this delve into middle earth well.
@@sinisterplank3113 You're thinking of Ralph Bakshi's The Lord of the Rings. The two Rankin/Bass specials don't use rotoscoping.
My favourite out of the hobbit trilogy, I’ve loved your middle earth journey 💚💚
Oh man!
You should’ve seen the extended version! It features more the battle sequence!
That battle sequence with the goat chariot is amazing. Frustrating that they missed out on it.
As a LORD OF THE RINGS mega-nerd I had a bit of a chuckle when an extra runs by yelling: "They've taken Stone Street!!"
Stone Street is the street in Wellington where they have their movie studios. Where they were probably filming at that very moment.
I’ve really been enjoying your reactions to the Lord of the Rings movies!
LOL! was going to check for the upload and it was 1min ago! time to order food and watch this!
After Bard killed Smaug all I could hear was Gimli say "That still only counts as one" 😂😂😂
" Google
Thranduil is riding on a cgi made giant elk( a big horse irl), resembling the extinct Irish elk.
"I love the smell of what your drinking sooo much"
Me: Drinking my strong smelling tea and alittle high. . .😮🧐😱
But the way I understood dragon sickness, which I am starting to doubt if the movie paints it just like I understood is:
Do you know when you get injured by your car and sue the manufacturer? How big would the settlement need to be for you to start thinking: "I'm glad I lost my hand for these 20 million", what if your loved one dies at an amusement park, how much money would seem like a blessing? 100 million? What about a billion? The mountain had so much gold it paid reparations for all suffering that ever was or ever would be. For every struggle there is a weight in gold that would make all things right. And that is how much gold the dragon was hoarding, infinite riches to appease all sorrows.
This was a epic movie, love the reactions. My favorite to see in theaters of the three.
@@matthewgillies7509 Close enough.
It's very amusing watching you struggle with the names 😄
It happens to me all the time.
I hope you've enjoyed your Middle Earth journey!
Alright, Folks, time for another rewatch of The LOTR trilogy. EXTENDED edition, perhaps? Hehe
Thank you Ladies❣️Happy New Year✨
Poor Balin becomes the Lord of Moria and is slaughtered by the Orcs. His tomb is the one they find in The Lord of the Rings movie.
