“How to get away with murder when you think you’re an evil genius, but you’ve grossly overestimated your intelligence.” 😂😂😂

It is such a testament to this woman’s character that both of her stepdaughters loved her so much.
True, it fucking angers me that he did that to his family, she was obviusly a good role model to them( his sisters) and he decided to destroy it out of spite...
She has 3 stepdaughters, but everyone seemed to love her. Her friends and coworkers and family.
Sarah Jarrett Completely heartbreaking. What a monster to do this to your own family, a family who was loving and would do anything for their children. Absolutely disgusting.

True, but how does he get to be who he is ? The parents do seem to have spoiled him too much...cutting him off then was just to late... how does the saying go, be cruel to be kind ? (To all crazies out there: no, I am not saying the parents deserved it or they had it coming etc., no but some kind of parenting does factor in some kind of reaction of his, at least his laziness and ungratefulness)

I was thinking that too. Like how are you gonna pin this on your dad to make it look like murder/suicide if he's dismembered and soaking in lye??? Genius my ass..
He didn't plan on all the cuts & injuries to his hands after brutally stabbing 2 people dozens upon dozens of times. He paused his plans, drove back to BR to get medical treatment & planned on going back to finish his plans. Didn't take in to consideration that people would notice real fast that Guy's were not communicating or showing up to work.
I know, right?!?😅🤣

LOL! Too funny ...but how true!😂😂😂
I was thinking this too. I walked out on a job recently and not person called and said “hey are you coming in today “ they did not care 😂 they probably assumed I wasn’t coming back bc I let it be known I hated the job but STILL! I could’ve been dead at my house
Right!!! A few years back at my job we had a girl named Kris no called no show & my boss/ supervisor when qe couldn't reach her so she called 911 & come 2 find out her husband had committed a murder suicide the night b4! I miss her all the time man bc she was my buddy! 🙏 guys please take those types of relationships seriously & don't ignore the signs of the VIOLENCE PLEACE!!!!! 🙏 Stay blessed & healthy!

I thank the Lord that their daughter didn't get to the house first and find them. It's traumatic enough.

For real. Knowing what he did to them is bad enough, but to actually see it?
Those officers have PTSD from that grisly crime scene, no doubt.

This man's laziness is astounding. To kill his parents out of laziness and then not even clean up after out of laziness? Allowing himself to be caught? He's where he belongs.
He had to go back to baton rouge for his alibi. I guess he thought an alibi was needed more than disposing of the evidence. Most people assume he was

@@midnighttennessee8904 yeah. They say his plan was that the stove would catch fire from his mom's head in the pot.
He went back to Baton Rouge because during the struggle he cut his hand badly and since he didn’t have health insurance he went back to BR to go to the free clinic at his university because he was afraid he was going to lose his thumb. Michelle's testimony really moved me. The way she described Lisa's little habits and how she would dress and care for her loved ones. She really looked up to her. What a tragedy...
They were a very close family. He destroyed them
Same for me. It made me cry.
Me too! Broke my heart for her,
The way her co-workers were so concerned so quickly and called multiple times for law enforcement to check on her really speaks to the kind of person Lisa was too. So sad!
There are a ton of comments seemingly blaming the parents for how they raised their son, but keep in mind, even if you raise a complete spoiled brat, that isn't what turns someone into a psychopathic murderer. :O
It’s hard to imagine her being a bad mother when her step daughters adored her. Some people are just born monsters.
I don't think they are placing blame... Just stating a correlation. That's how I read most of those comments. They definitely were very, very far from bad parents.
I don't think its placing blame. More so acknowledging that without even meaning to they raise this monster poorly - everyone knows that doesn't mean they were deserving of death
I feel that he was a sicko his whole life and his mom, being the warm and loving woman she was, tried to appease him. They probably did spoil him a bit but that was only a minuscule contribution to his depravity. Compare him to his sisters. You can tell by looking at him that he is twisted. His sisters are relatively normal. Genes had a hand in this, not if he was spoiled or not, but that doesn’t change the fact that he lived parasitically off his parents’ dime.
I see this all the time and I don't get it. You can criticize a person's actions after they die while at the same time not blaming them or condoning their murder. I saw this on another case where a girl was killed by a guy who was mad that she wouldn't date him and when a comment saying that they wish girls were taught better to watch out for red flags in order to keep themselves safe, people got all mad about victim blaming.
I love the way you absolutely dragged his personality to filth. What an absolute waste of human being

@@caoilfhionndunbar Haha yeah that makes sense or if the house had caught fire like I think he was hoping, then maybe he could say the body burned up but also, then the note would burn up too?
Tag, what a Moran! Did he really think , that he’d get away with it? Do this killer types actually think they will get away with murder , do they just kind of hope, or do they not care ? I’ve read, that sociopaths/ psychopaths actually do not have a stress response .... that they do not panic, like a normal person would.
@@sheldoman The fire would just char the bodies, not completely carbonize them to the point of ashes. The most messed up part of all this is that he probably never put thus much effort into anything as his own parents murder! This is so disturbing 😳

Makes sense if you think about it. Relationships, lives and friends were not part of his world
As a psychopath with almost zero personal ties it wouldn't have occurred to him.
I don't think it's ironic, because that would imply it was intelligent, not just detailed and convoluted.
You notice how the things he got wrong are the most basic, and how the things he put the most thought in were things that would probably sound clever to an idiot?
Joel focused on things that were comparatively irrelevant to the big picture. Like, if you're planning on framing your dad, why do you need to chemically disinter the body?
The mournful baying of the dog is just heartbreaking!

I especially appreciated that she mentioned that there was a dog in the house and that he wasn't aggressive. She also gave them the dog's name so if there was a situation, the dog would know the cops weren't complete strangers.
The USDOJ called the shooting of pet dogs by cops an 'epidemic' and about 30 pet dogs are shot by cops in the US *per day.* So it was nice she warned them that the dog was friendly so they would be less inclined to murder it.

While awaiting sentencing, Joel wrote a letter claiming he dreamt of gouging out his cell mate's and other prisoners eyes out. He felt he should not be around others. He set himself up for solitary confinement with only 1 hour recreation per day. He still does not have to work.
To obtain these random store surveillance showing Joel Jr, detectives probably had to comb through hours and hours and hours of footage of surveillance videos. Especially with the fact that he went to random locations.. hats off to the people behind the scenes that we don’t see, who take down these bad guys.
yes ma’am. And stop and think about the random shoppers coming into contact with this psychopath while he bought his murderous supplies.
Not to detract from any of that but if they found grocery store receipts, they usually have a time stamp on them so it could help narrow down the times they need to watch the surveillance videos.
There was also a post it note in his suitcase with information on where to buy the food grade hydrogen peroxide with a store name... I'm not sure if she covered that information but it came out in the trial... I watched the entire trial
How the hell can someone be so horrible? Your parents, the people who have loved you unconditionally, the people who have been so forgiving, the people who, even though you act like you hate them, still invite you to holiday dinners with food ready on the table and a smile on their faces... I just... I can’t even wrap my head around this. I’m genuinely disgusted and infuriated. This man deserves the worst. I normally feel bad for all people, even if they do bad things, but this guy doesn’t deserve anyone’s pity.
I've said before, this man just didn't become psychotic as an adult, he had to have been troubled since childhood. I have the feeling he was so troubled that his parents did everything for him to keep him pacified until they couldn't do it any longer.
I'd bet he most likely tortured and killed animals as a child. I hope more comes out about his younger years.
Oh most definitely. He has been holding onto this urge for a while it seems like.
He was also most likely trying to spur on the decomp process and kill the family dog slowly by locking him up and turning the heat on 90° in the house.
💯
Completely agree.
I agree with you. It’s so sad.
good point, Preston!
It’s so sick to think he used their money to buy the weapons that would kill them.
I think that he was boiling his mother's head on the stove because he was trying to strip it of all the flesh so he could keep her skull as a trophy. Kind of like an extra little trinket he could stroke off his own ego to while he sat alone in his room his whole life. I think he had planned to come back and finish up but he left to take a break not something anyone would come looking for his parents which was his biggest flaw in his whole plan. He cared so little about his parents he didnt have the forethought to think anyone else cared about his parents apparently.
I saw that he came back- but there were cop cars in the driveway so he kept going.
Yup. And that he left the written up plans...just. Wtf man???
Yes this case reminds me of Big Ed who killed several people but his mom and her friend were the last people he killed. Why are so many serial killers into dismemberment? Like damn it’s not bad enough to just kill them now you have to cut them up and “boil” them ...WHAT IN THE ABSOLUTE HELL IS THAT?
He planned to set the house on fire since he was too lazy to clean up.
I think he abused her head and tried to get rid of all evidence of that. The step dads hands too.

If you want to crucify every single person, for saying something in a less-than-eloquent manner, then you're going to live in a very sad, angry, and lonely, space, in your head.
The statement was about whether the parents knew their son could be so awful; I see nothing about "they deserved it." It's a common question - "Were there any signs?"
You added the part about blaming the parents, in your head, in your assumption that the OP was malicious. The statement is not even REMOTELY close to asking a rape victim if they were wearing something which "attracted" rape. It's a valid question. It *could* be malicious, but you *assumed* it was. You jumped to attack-mode. You made the situation hostile.
You also need to learn that empathy is about understanding others' situations, without experiencing their pain, directly. It seems to be the case that you think people can only express empathy if they've gone through your exact situation. I hope you will consider avoiding personal attacks, by telling others they are unempathetic, and misdirecting by talking about your rape, just because someone disagrees with you.

It's so hard to look at the picture of his mother, knowing her head ended up in that pot. I just can't imagine what the officer saw that lifted that lid.
I've been thinking about what if the officers had stopped to look in the pot when they first saw it, instead of leaving it and continuing to clear the house. Seeing the blood on the stairs and the clothes on the 2nd floor probably gave them enough warning to mentally prepare for the upstairs scene, but if they had just opened that pot in the beginning it would have been 0 to 100. (or maybe more like 0 to 10,000...)
i once worked at an insurance company in the disability and life insurance department. there were more disability claims for law enforcement officers than i expected, and a lot of them ended up being for PTSD, anxiety, depression, etc, often relating to something they saw on the job, like the remnants of very violent deaths. i don't think most people can really deal with seeing things like that, day in and day out. hope the officers here got whatever therapy or help they might've needed after seeing something like this
@@julesk3816 I feel like no one ever thinks about that part of the job. and I’m sure there’s officers who go their entire career without seeing anything super gruesome or something bad enough to truly damage them. @@lacilocicero3932 I know this is an old comment but I just discovered Stephanie recently so i just happened across your comment, but it’s so true that cops see so much more than most people realize. My husband has been a police officer for almost 20 years and we live in a really small town with very little violent crime and very very few murders, in his almost 20 years he’s worked just a few murders, one when we first started dating and a man beat his wife to death with a baseball bat and then jumped off of a bridge in front of my husband and his coworkers holding their 3yr old daughter, miraculously the 3yr old and the man survived but it was a case that my husband had nightmares about for months after and still occasionally has nightmares about. He’s also worked some really horrific car accidents that resulted in deaths, a few child abuse cases which bother him a lot, he actually buys toys and stuffed animals to keep in his cruiser to give to children when they have to work child abuse cases just to try to cheer the child up or distract them if they need a distraction from the situation their in. Last summer they worked an overdose case and it was a horrific site because a male and female couple had been in the middle of a sexual act and they both overdosed, they lived in a single wide mobile home with no air conditioning in the middle of 100 degree heat in the south, and they’d been dead a few days, it was a really disturbing site because of the act he was performing on her and then obviously when someone dies out bodies empty out, and with the heat and no air conditioning, it was more than most of the police and EMTs etc could handle. My husband has PTSD and anxiety and he has nightmares almost nightly and at least once a week he screams and thrashes in his sleep, sometimes springing from bed in a panic. He has nightmares that he gets shot, and nightmares about having to shoot someone, fortunately he and his coworkers have never had to shoot anyone and have only had to pull their gun on people just a handful of times in cases where someone pulls a gun on them or is holding a gun to their wives or children’s head, luckily that’s happened very, very infrequently in his almost 20 years on the job. Even in areas where there’s not a lot of violent crimes they still see some really disturbing things sometimes, and a lot of them don’t want to burden their families with the things they see, some are “too proud” to seek therapy or think they can handle it themselves, and sadly sometimes they take their own lives because they just can’t handle the things they’ve seen. It’s a difficult profession and sadly they get a lot of hate, and of course there’s bad eggs in the profession but thankfully in our small town they’re all actually really great men and women who love their job and love helping people and try to make a positive difference in people’s lives. I wish all police officers were as great as the men and women here in my small town. But thank you for recognizing that police officers often see some really traumatic things and that they’re human beings just like the rest of us! 💕

Psychopaths like to keep everyone separate because they pin each one against the others and it’s much easier to keep track of their lies. Like I never got to meet his friends really or even hear about them and this dude was living with me for years. He knew all of mine, as they dwindled away. His mother absolutely hated me and I know what kind of person I am and I had done nothing to deserve the hate, looking back I am sure he lied to his mom about me about who knows what to make sure she and I would never like each other. We are pawns in these ppl’s lives. He was the master charmer though, very good looking, very good at isolating me, I taught him how to dress well, and paid for all the clothes to boot. It would drive me crazy when we would be fighting and he could go into a store and charm/flirt with the cashier right in front of me and be in such a happy mood. He never held a job for long, I never met anyone that had such a long list of jobs. He lasted 1.5 days at the only job he had in 2 years. He could be caught red handed doing something wrong and because of their nature, they literally make you question your own mind and never admit any guilt or wrongdoing. I haven’t talked to him since March but I have nightmares at least once a week with him in them. The similarities between my ex and this guy are insane when it comes to how hard they will work and do whatever to not work. He drained me financially, I lost my house, my cars, some of my pets, my career as an engineer. I live in my mom’s basement now. They wreck lives. Sorry for my long rant of my personal experience with a psychopath. I want to share my experience as much as possible to prevent others from letting them ruin your life. I think so poorly of myself now. I have no desire to date ever again. I hope things will get better, but they do damage to you that goes on far longer even if you have physically left them.

I have amazingly generous parents. Theyd never make me leave home if I didnt want to...they've said many times I could live at home forever, eat their food and sit in my twin bed watching Hulu the rest of my life and to make that sentiment even sweeter and more thoughtful of ME they follow this statement up with expressing their only worry about that would be MY happiness... that I just wouldn't be as happy living at home with them as I would be living my own life with my own family, and even they would not foot my separate lifestyle past 18 yrs old such as these parents did. Such as tuition rent GAS?! Insurance car payments etc. So even I do not know why theyve done this. I also do not know why he didnt worship the ground they walked on and yet he murdered them...that is what I really wonder about. I consider myself a spoiled child but make no mistake I love my parents unconditionally. If they couldnt stand my presence in their home ever again and never wanted to speak to me I'd still love them and want the best for them and definitely go out of my way to provide for them if I was ever honored to be called upon to do so. @@Janellabelle My ex is a psychopath n he and his mother had an very unhealthy relationship. They believe everyone should hand them everything and they go to great lengths to not work (they don’t do well with being bosses around by a boss as they see themselves as better than the boss). I never want to victim shame, not one second, but I do see the similarity in the two mothers in regards to footing their very adult sons lives. Ex’s mom was known to let him borrow her car for the day, while she had to take a bus to and from work or get a ride from a coworker. And my ex would have lied and said he needed it for a job interview he didn’t have. N this was not a one or two time thing, it could go on for months on end. The only times he actually gave me the $ we had agreed upon when he moved into the house that I have now foreclosed on (mainly due to him taking me down financially) is the one or two months out of over 40 that his mom gave him the $ to give to me. I heard over the years that I could afford him, meanwhile I was refinancing and taking out equity loans, my 401k, etc. He wrecked my life. But that is the difference between just being a spoiled kid and a psychopath, these people think everyone should just hand them what they want, and they will work very very hard to not have a legitimate job.

I love the cops declaring rooms cleared without opening closet doors or looking under beds. In a situation that bizarre, you've got to be thorough.
I thought exactly that. The perpetrator could be on scene yet hidden. And not being absolutely thorough and checking blind spots puts the lives of officers in peril. Anyone who would do this to his own parents would have zero hesitation to "clear" the residence of witnesses, law enforcement or civilians. If these safe to clear measures are not taught they are at the very least, a common sense component of clearing rooms to code 4. Not to say the police did anything wrong, they were simply placing themselves in situations of vulnerability

Saaaame. "Oh wow, this is horrific... Wait, is that a dog? Omg puppy what happened???🥺❤️" and then just focus on the poor fluffer pupper. 🤦♀️
When they said he was locked in there for days i was like "omg give him some water! 😖💔"
And didnt even have a reaction to the head in the pot ...
Y'all... It's honestly kind of sick you're basically saying you care more about a dog than the fact that two human beings were brutally murdered and the murder was somewhere on the run.. I know you think it's cute but I think it's actually quite despicable.
@@bendietrees I’m not saying that. I’m in this field precisely because I want to make sure these people get locked up. What I’m saying is that my survival instincts in this situation would cause me to locate the dog, letting my guard down for a potential shooter that may still be in the house. Not that I care more about the animal than the people
"All wrapped up in Banana Republic tighty whiteys" killed me off
What an amazing boss/co-worker in the beginning. She felt something was off so she acted on it.
Yep. She called the police TWICE and insisted they go inside that house-that something had to be wrong. She really cared.
He clearly didn’t have any idea how long his disposal plan could take, and he definitely had no idea how quickly his parents would be missed bc he didn’t have anyone in his life that he was in daily contact with like them
