Only one in eight male lion cubs survive to adulthood. And even then, their lives can be short and dangerous. For one young male, mating with a female from his own pride is impossible. But finding love elsewhere can pose an even bigger risk.
In stunning close-up footage, a young lion fights to survive in the African savannah. Will testosterone outweigh danger? And does he have what it takes to see off three jealous suitors?

The father is right.
Not every place is Sweet Home Alabama.
At least with the lions, they wait until the females are sexually mature lol

hahahah awesome reply :D
The fact that he was able to fend off three adult males shows he's stronger than he looks. Great video, love this channel.
It really is amazing to watch right?! Thank you so much Richard 🦁
He didn't fend off, he just showed them that he's respectful but if gets killed he'll not die without inflicting serious wound, a risk none of the middle aged lions wanted to take, so was allowed to live and leave. It was still beyond impressive no doubt.
@@shafqatishan437 He’s lucky he didn’t try that with any of the Mapogos.
@@shafqatishan437 that's the same thing you nerd. HE FENDED OFF THE ATTACK. IF HE WAS WEAK, THEY WOULDVE KILLED HIM.
@@Whoopdido777 was he alive when they were around lol
A shout out to all the lone lions and lionesses on the planet who sleep and hunt by themselves. It must be a lonely existence; your bravery and instinct for survival is unmatched. Your fellow sentient beings, us homo sapiens, applaud you.
There are no lone lioness neither in lions nor in humans.
He goes back to his blood brother and is like yo yo yo I met this chick and crazy shit happened bro. We did it all day all night and all of the sudden these three jerks attack me man but somehow I survived.
Brotherhood transcends species
Just like my neighborhood outdoor cats.. only bigger.. 😁
I've always said lions were oversized house cats as a joke. Now, I dont think its a joke anymore.
Or cats are small lions
Yep
@@humblefencecompany I have my own little pocket lion 😸❤️
@@Solomon0424 cats don't fight to death for the most part
Now I understand why male lions are considered so powerful. I had always seen them in the pride, where the females are the ones doing the hunting and so forth. Seeing them go on their own, and form alliances, that was very interesting. Thank you.
Figuring out how prides work is not easy indeed - glad you could learn something new 🦁
Male lions protect the pride from rival males and help take down larger prey
An adult male lion will dominate an adult male tiger probably 9 out of 10.
Hunting is not tough work for predators. Fighting other predators off is!
@@jedidah838Hunting isn't tough work?? Lmao 😂
That fight was awesomely brutal. 👌
It was, but it often doesn't end like that - rival prides often have no mercy for the other one 🦁
The young lion was like sweet home Alabama. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
holy wow... imagine THIS storyline for a full-length movie!
wayyyyy better than the lion king... with enough lion prides we could even have a full HBO series to rival Game of Thrones!
So agree.
Your dream has come true 😊 We've already produced a 3-part series about two lion prides in Tansania showing amazing behaviour - like this in the video! Our cinematographer & director lived 7 years next to the pack to capture these fantastic pictures.
@@terramater omg can't wait to watch!
@@terramater where to watch that
Better than GOT this is reality
Not gonna lie, it's harsh, but their life stories are so dope
They really are 🦁
It's incredible how animals communicate without words. Like how on earth did the juvenile male know whether he was banished or not. Also How did he form that bond with the other lone lion .
Animals amaze us all the time - that's why we love to share these videos with you 🦁
All species pretty much know when their father wants them out. The male lion was being aggressive onto his son over a period of time, it’s not instantaneous. When the big male attacks his son and often chases him away it’s clear to the younger male it’s his time to go. The young male most likely bonded with the other lone male because they knew they needed each other, they would build up the bond after hunting and feeding together, the two would also have to mess around and play to reinforce bonds. Usually coalitions are of related males but non related males do occasionally form coalitions.
Animals understand intensions. They are more deeply focused on their survival than we are.
I love lion communication & spend a lot of time observing it, body language and vocals.
So many animals have sounds they make that we are not able to hear with our ears. I think lions have them as well.
@@DAKOTA__. And alot is conveyed through smell
so fascinating that lions can tell when inbreeding is about to happen, i also love that he made a brother bond with some random lion
They are really smart animals 🦁 That really is great to see right?!
It’s instinctual. Spotted hyenas don’t mate with males in their Clan either. Social groups tend to have the males leave. Gorillas do this too, the males are kicked out and get strong enough to take over another troop where they kill all the young offspring of the previous troop leader and sires his own.
The young lion was related to the 3 adult lions. Uncles probably. That was a "spank"!!! only.
Damn, if this was a movie preview, I would’ve already bought my ticket! Great commentary!
It’s pretty crazy when you hear that only 1 of 8 male lions survive to adulthood and then pretty much the maximum age is that they live is 12. It takes a special type of lion lion like Makhulu and Hairy Belly, who were both around 15 when they died, or Scarface and Notch, who were both around 14 when they died. Those are just 4 that came to mind. I’m sure there are some others and I might even have forgotten a real famous one too.
I was thinking the mopoggo Brothers
@@respecteverybodynohate9637 Well Makhulu was the oldest of the Mapogos. Pretty Boy was also a Mapogo and he lived to be about 11. He died of tuberculosis. Those two were the last last two remaining. I’m guessing that Pretty Boy would would have lived longer had he not acquired the tuberculosis. The other 4 were all either killed, some due to possible human intervention, if you believe in some conspiracy theories and one for sure due to human intervention.
@@Whoopdido777 man they haven't seen since I believe after the do. So 2012 to 2013 ngl tho even tho mr t was brutal he was still my favorite he died fighting
@@respecteverybodynohate9637 Yeah 2010 was a brutal year for them. Kinky Tail was killed by the Majingilanes in June. Many people believe due to human intervention. Rasta more or less disappeared in July. Again, some people think he was killed by humans, while others think he was simply killed by some Majingilanes. Dreadlocks was definitely killed by humans in December. So they went from a coalition of six strong, although a bit on the older side, lions down to 3 in the span of only 6 months. Then Mr. T was killed by the Selatis in March of 2012. Pretty Boy died in December of 2012 and finally Makhulu died of old age in March of 2013.
Lonlkito survived 19 yrs bro
Wow, this episode was really great, I never knew lion societies operated this way.
Amazing to see this kind of animal behaviour right?! 🦁
@@lenafromterramater3690 It almost seemed like human tribalism. Was very interesting to see.
It's remarkable how this young male lion skillfully avoided death by three larger males. Lions' aversion to injuries likely played a role in their decision to spare him. One can only hope that this resilient young lion finds his own pride and thrives in the future.
For sure!
Great film and narration, nice one.
Great to hear that - highly appreciated 🦁
Great content as always! I didn't know that non-related lions would form aliances. Is there still a heirarchy in the pride between the males and do they commit infanticide of cubs within their pride if one male has larger amount of male cubs?
I think they all take turns smashing so they don't know who has the kids. So they just raise them all
I think a group of males is called a “coalition.” Only with females present will it be called a “pride.” I don’t know the answer to the hierarchy question.
They will commit infanticide on cubs within their own pride if they don’t believe the cubs are theirs and or if they have no bond with the cubs. Mr T of the Mapogos when he reunited with his brothers killed his nieces and nephews since he had just met them and there was no chance he fathered them.
Males in coalitions which are what it’s called when males join up together do have loose hierarchies. There are more dominate members, they tend to be but are not always the biggest and strongest but always the most aggressive. The lions at the top of the hierarchies will mate more. People seeing male lions humping each other joke about them being gay but it’s males showing dominance over each other and lionesses do the same thing to each other.
@@vivismith1157 Mr. T is an anomaly tho ain't he? He's rare af! That mfer was messed up in the head! He just has known death & violence all his life & he was quite brutal! He even was a cannibal! He ate the cubs when he killed em! He was the most brutal is what the Rangers said & I think that's why they had a hand in his death imo💯💯💯
They don't commit infanticide within their own pride! They only do that when they take over a new pride! Non related males will team up & formed a COALITION to better have success bcuz it's tough being a lone male lion in the wild whether that's with a pride or without a pride! Coalition is usually made up of brothers or cousins that was kicked out of a pride by their fathers when they reach maturity or when they show manes! It's evolution ya kno? It makes perfect sense bcuz if the fathers don't do that to their sons? There would be inter breeding & that's never good! It'd weaken the gene pool! In a coalition there's always gon be a dominant male lion who gets to mate the most with the females!
Jesus christ the mating am dying
These narrations and video quality is next level .

It is so great to hear that you could learn something new from this video and liked it so much 🦁
He's definitely definitely coming back for his cub momma
Let´s hope they will be reunited to raise their cubs 🦁
I think the pride males will mate with her, some animals like felines have litters where the offspring could have different fathers. The lioness could have cubs of the same litter fathered by the young male and the pride males. She could also just have the pride males cubs or at least trick them into believing the cubs are theirs by mating with them.
@ Vivi,No dear,it is unnatural assumption that the lioness would play tricks, they do not belong to human society.
@@ghayasalvi3898 so you never watched lionesses in nature? They literally lure nomadic males away from their pride and cubs through promises or mating. You do know animals aren’t thoughtless beings right, dear?

Wow! Nature is so fascinating.
one lion agains 3 and he managed to give good beating one of them ,this lion will rule for the longest period as possible
No he will get killed by most lions this is very rare situations. I know a lot about lions dynamics. Based on my understanding the reason why they let him off the hook is most likely he was previously trying to join the coalition but rejected that’s only way he make it out alive. Lions usually kill intruders like there’s no chance especially him being subadult!!
Damn, that young lion was so strong resist those three adult lions.
It’s all editing and story making. In the real world this would never happen, maybe 1 out of 100 times due other conditions. So.
Wow
Everything is perfectly said. I love the male lions, their behavior and their characteristics, the big felid whose life in wild is often the shortest.

Male Lions life is so pathetic..but this is rule of nature.
Just one in eight!? I may say what a terrible coin toss, were not eight-sided die toss more appropriate. Electrifying stuff.
The non-related males are not blood brothers. That's what non-related means. You mentioned it at least twice.
Lions live longer than 12 years.
Rarely. At 12 they would be past their prime and younger males would most likely force them out soon after and the aging males would soon die afterwards without a pride to help them and again they would be weaker as they would be past their prime.
He’s lucky to make it alive Vs 3 male lion
Small cats in comparison with Tigers. Especially Siberian and maybe Bengal. But they are nice cats. The 2nd, maybe 3rd largest cats of the world and maybe the third strongest. But they are social cats so that’s nice. They are not alone😇
Growing in zoo will be a best one for lions

Does anyone know the name of the 3 adult male lion coalition?
Did we just watch R rated lionking? 🦁😅

Kings life is tougher than we think
‘ was nomadic and wanted to join the coalition but was rejected and got the chance to run away. I never saw three male lions leaving an intruder to live.
Hi Royal! Really interesting right?! 🦁
I was thinking the same way there’s no chance he get out alive Vs 3 unless he was trying to join the coalition previously and was rejected.
I think the life of both male and females are just as unpredictable.
Well thsi was pretty great, that's why I really like Lions, but Tiger are cooler in my opinion

Why would a male lion just attack his son who he has been defending for his whole life and wants him to be alive
These kings should know when there females is in heat 3 of them they need to be on top of it.
3 pride lions together are not able to kill one subadult male. If it’s Mr T and Kinki tail then that nomadic male will be dead in no time.

When will the young Lion start his own new pride, or will he never be able to have his pride?
Well quite frankly, if my son tried to elope with his sister I’d banish him to the wilderness too…… and if my brother tried to do the same to me I’d join my father in kicking him out ewww.
he later did have his own pride right? saw this on another documentary
