Thanks to my daughter for special appearance and comments.
Ring advises to use a 25ohm 50W resistor... did you have any problems since you installed it? any advise about where to find the resistor?
I don't use any resistor. I think that may be required for Pro version and also if you are using existing chime.
Great video, I now feel comfortable to try it on my own. Thanks
Thank you.
Sorry I don't know nothing about doorbell cameras so I have a question. I would like the wired camera so can I buy the one that says wifi and wired it or I have to buy the one that's say wiring required? Because the first one is cheaper but I don't know if it will work. Thanks
If I understood your question, you'd like to wire your doorbell Camera. WiFi is for internet and Power to doorbell is avoid battery. Ring Bell can be wired and battery operated unless you get Pro version.
Jimmy's DIY sorry but I’m still lost. So that’s means if I buy the ring that say WiFi I can wire the camera ? Or I have to buy the one that’s say wiring? And thank you for your time
Which Ring Bell you are looking to buy, if you can share link, I can check for you

This will work perfectly. You can connect to WiFi and use battery until power wire is connected. All the power wire is doing is helping you keep the battery charged.
is the video quality better than on battery power with no lagging?
Video Quality is same whether on battery or electric. You need to check signal strength or need signal booster to reduce lag.
So I can simply buy an 8v doorbell transformer, install it in a box to hide all wiring, plug it in and no more recharging that stupid battery?
I would go higher than 8v DC. I have 16vdc and you are correct. No more charging this thing
@@JimmysDIY I see Amazon sells standard transformers, like the ones that run routers. I have one rated at 12v 1.ma output.
There is on in my original post that is the one I used.
Hi Jimm'y, I have a problem and I think only you faced and solve that. so it is appreciated to help me. I have Doorbell1 (like you) with ring chime. it can be charged by USB but i want to charge it by wire.
-Does it charges your doorbell?
-Are you using 18v or 16v power adapter
-Is there any spacial thing that I should keep in mind before connect it to the transmitter(or adapter) ?
Thank you
Hey, thank you for watching the video. Secondly, you can buy stand alone 18v or 16v transformer off Amazon and simply connect to wires to the bell's base (bracket). Simply plug it in and it will slowly charge your bell to 100% and once there it will maintain at 100%.
In short,
- Does it charge your doorbell - yes
- 16 or 18v - I am using 16v at my house Your transformer can be in between. 16-24v. 16-18v runs cheaper at $12.
@@JimmysDIY thank you for your reply,
I will try to fix mine in next couple of days. I hope it works for me
It's fairly easy and it's great not having to charge again. Let me know if you have any other questions
Hi Jimmy, I bought an adapter and as you know all the adapters are converting AC to DC (12V or 18 V ...). Is it ok to use that? is your adapter's output AV or DC? Also what is you adapter output? 8v, 9v ...
This is what I bought. 16.5 Volt AC, 20 VA.

Is that transformer good for Ring 1 and 2? I just got the 2.
Hello William, the transformer is good for both.
Where did you get the plug in transformer? All I can come across are ones with exposed terminals. Is that exclusive with ring?
I got from Amazon. www.amazon.com/Class-II-Transformer-Approved-MGT-1620/dp/B004VMVDPY
Rings website says you need a resistor, is that not the case?
I am using 24vdc and 40va transformer on Ring 1, no issues at all. I had my transformer die out on me and then added Resistor, so far so good
What kind of transformer did u use? Rings website says to use a resistor but I noticed you didn't use one. Had any issues?
Hey, sorry for not replying sooner. I didn't get notifications for some reason.
But I used "Class II Transformer - 12 Volt AC, 20 VA, UL/CSA Approved : MGT-1220"
Amazon ASIN B002LG8008
Jimmy's DIY much appreciated.
Glad I could help. Let me know if you need any other information.
I am going to be adding a ring video doorbell two to my property. Like you I am not connecting it to a doorbell just a transformer. Is it required to hook both leads off a 24 V transformer for it to work? Or is it only required for one lead?
Hi, thank you for watching the video. You'd have to connect both wires on the transformer. Negative and Positive to feed power properly.
Hey, thanks for the video. Does it show up as hardwired within the app all the time? Mine showed hardwired twice for maybe 1 hour total, and it's been on battery ever since. I'm not sure if it is supposed to charge the battery all the time. Mine is draining battery very fast. Thanks!
Hey, yes it does show as hardwired. Check your transformer. I did this for my Uncle and his transformer died and I had to replace it
Check if the light around the button on the bell is illuminated. If not it is possible it's not getting power. The app takes a while before it updates
Thanks! Great video. Nice family. Cheers!
Thank you.
