Wandering around RUclips and stumbled on this. Simple, stunning and beautiful. One of those songs that you feel you know as soon as you hear it. Pure heart music.
If only more people knew about Willy. One of the best people I've ever known and, in my opinion, one of the best artists our great country has ever produced. Spread the word! :)
Yes, it Absolutely is... the first time i heard it on a Good Luck Thrift Store Outfit CD. i played it easily 20 times, and the album daily for months.. im already on my 4th repeat now tonight. haha The Best.. so Pure and to the Heart...
I'm also from Calaveras County (Murphys) and am lucky enough to have moved back here ten years ago. Grew up on 140 and this song could have been written about my childhood...amazing!!!! and so cool to see other Calaveras people on RUclips :)
Check out my interview with Willie Tea Taylor: www.mixcloud.com/MikeCobb/episode-10-willy-tea-taylor/ I discovered him by chance while surfing RUclips via the Gondola sessions. His music leapt out & pierced my heart. So glad I got to meet, hang, & rap with him. He really is a special dude.

Nice spot to do some sustainable ag , I have two velomobile projects on the go , no money but parts are coming in . The second velomo. is a land trike that disassembles and stores in sailing canoe . The canoe has the capacity to sleep (lightning protection, faraday cage ) and cook , plus composting toilet detaches from the towing velo , so you can leave the canoe and travel with towing velo which is now carrying the removable com. toilet for extending comfort and not being a phoquen burden on the communities , so basically your not leaving your shit behind , but the urine if need be can be left on the road shoulder heheheh mixing to much ammonia in the humanure composting process is the major characteristic of determining the size of the composting toilet . There're exceptions like the bear population plus bear attitude in the immediate area heheheh bears eat humanure better to use heat to get rid of humanure in some cases , like when turning humans to ashes , forgot what the word is
TFrills cremation more carbon monoxide , better off with sea burials , in salt water for me ....rules says it must be able to move with just the pedals in case batteries go dead , finding bike parts suited for salt water is more expensive , Today I worked on the trike that disassembles and stores in sailing canoe that was towed on electric powered trailer . This trike is store bought but the canoe is in progress ....my shop is not heated so spending time on google , Is school getting hectic ....hope all is well , the snow scene is spectacular , it was 34 today so went outside , have to toke outside my wife is back
Late bloomer Awesome! haha if it aint heated then wear a jacket. Yeah school is insanely hectic. The last few weeks have been really stressful. I got manipulated by some girl and stayed up for 48 hours drinking. Then i got sick and now I have all these red bumps all over me. It sucks. Plus school projects and whatnot, dealing with friends. Im on the verge of having no friends haha. Im got this obsessive personality that seems to be culminating toward mental illness. Anyway, you should take a picture of the snow scene. How much do you toke a dayy?
TFrills five or six , I use a one hitter , with push cleaning plunger , I take prescribed codeine for pain but want to go somewheres else to eat pot instead , This place is loaded with religious morons and the winters suck.....ya I didn't not like the pace at school , 40 hrs plus homework , phoque that except for the potential of finding a job one is better off self taught .....sounds like you need I few wilderness walks to clear your head ....did she really twist your arm heheh...is it a long ways to the beach ....if you gonna go nuts do it near the beach , people will think you're having fun , seriously a beach drunk ...one good woman , one who laughs at lot ...in the face of stress....do you smoke everyday , Vancouver canada now has pot available at vending machines , must those californian moving in hehehe....When I was in Cal about 40 years ago , had the greatest time in my life ....Dude cheer up you are in a good spot , life is lot worse elsewhere .....drink your milk after you get sick on alcohol hehehe OH one more thing , the easier it is to pick the chick the worst is the after affect heheh...I wasn't always married and faithful ....thanks for the company
Yep, I do think he uses DGBD, which is an open G tuning, like a 5 string banjo, w/o the short string. I've used that on my tenor guitar with good results.

There is something about his earthy lyrics that makes me think of the simpler things in life. Thank you for that sir!
Saw this awesome guy at the Mercury Lounge in Tulsa last year. He gave my son a shirt and played every request. Great musician and an even better man!
This is why folk is my favourite genre. Is there really anything lovelier than this?
Just went to his show at Amnesia in SF. This guy is on another level. Probably, the best singer songwriter of our generation.
Look up Colter wall
This is one of the best songs ever written.
Just found it and I 100% agree

This guy is amazing.

Pulls my heart, my blood and dances with all my senses.
Some folk just can't take real life, love this tune and the heart that Willy puts in to it xxxxx
i listen to this in the morning. it helps this navy life : )
I believe it's a 1928 Gibson tenor guitar. Small body for a higher pitch, and good for traveling musicians.
Kyle Slagle any idea what tuning he uses on this tenor?
It is a 1927 Martin tenor. Open G "banjo" tuning.
Beautiful stuff, he is a great find for me, thank you ShantyTones :)
That's awesome
He shaved! Great song. I love your whole channel.

So few views, sad. Great song and great story. The dumbest crap has a million hits, and beautiful things like this are ignored. Breaks my heart.
come back and give it some more listens
Moved me to high Heaven!
Young When I left Home
Willy Tea Taylor
G Em C Am Cm
I don’t remember much but I do remember this
That old pickup truck rolling over the ditch
Where me and my brother catch bullfrogs all day long
Some days we’s naked just running in the sun
The radio was playing some sad country song
Didn’t know my heart was breaking as the truck it rolled on
It was too complicated for me to understand
I was young when I left home where those eagles used to land
My ma was humming soft like a butterfly would sing
As the gravel crunch beneath us with the beat of every wing
As the truck it rolled on I standing on the seat
As we crossed cattle guard where we’d walk down to the creek
I caught my first crappie on that Snoopy fishing pole
I was young when I left home and that lonely fishing hole
The sun was settin fast and the dust kept on flyin
As we went over the bridge that would flood in the wintertime
You couldn’t see that bridge with the water flowin by
My old man he’d cross it with his eyes closed every time
And I never stopped to think that I wouldn’t see it again
I was young when I left home and joined up with the wind
I was young when I left home ridin in the wind
I was young when I left home, I’m still out here in the wind.
Verry goood!!
Lets here it for the folks who had snoopy fishing poles!
bravo good sir bravo
smooth
I am gonna have to Drive 8 hours to go see him at Strawberry Music festival 2023.. ill even get a Covid crap Test to see Willy!!!
I hear a little Tom Dooley, loving it...
Killer songwriting!
See ya tomorrow baby!
cool a tenor guitar!
this my shit chubbs!!!!!
!!!!
That beard. :( Absolutely love this song.
What exactly is he playing? It's like a cross between a banjo and guitar.
That was exactly what I was thinking haha.
This beautiful song sounds reminiscent of "Tom Dooley" the old appalachian folk song. Listen to Doc Watsons version. Its the best on youtube.

What is he playing a four string guitar or a bass or a banjo stringed guitar???
It's called a Tenor Guitar, he has two i belive, this dark one and a blonde one.
Omg g8 stuffn 4 my.hart ÷>
Does anyone have any idea what tuning he is using? CGDA? GDAE? DGBE? GDAD? Please help an aspiring mando/tenor player out.
P Young DGBD, like a 4-string banjo.
Yep, I do think he uses DGBD, which is an open G tuning, like a 5 string banjo, w/o the short string. I've used that on my tenor guitar with good results.
im pretty sure he modeled the song after bob dylans young when i left home. same tuning and similar picking. open G
@@tylerjermano8886 i stumbled upon him by searching for dylans song ..
And like twelve of them are from me. . .
Am I a cool kid?
Ehh, if you sound a little like a young Dylan and you play in an acoustic folk style, maybe don't write a song called (I Was) Young When I Left Home.
