@ Yes, hands down. The only thing I’ve been hung up on is how much RAM to get. I ended up buying the M4P 12/16 with 24/512. I’m going to install the apps I use and run some tests. Depending on how it does, I may end up exchanging it for a 48/512 or maybe even 1TB.

@ yeah, the price jump to 48gb is a tough pill to swallow, especially since you’re inching closer to Studio pricing. I’m pretty sure that the base m4p is going to be more than sufficient for my needs. Looking forward to setting it up and putting it through its paces.

From this day forward, I will always watch your videos whenever there new mac releases, macs are really go to machine for creatives like photographers and videographers.
Hello and sending much appreciation for your work from Toronto. Sorry I missed the opportunity to say so in person. Even though I’m a pro audio guy, you continually offer performance comparisons and insights that are universally applicable. 👍🏽👍🏽 My M1 Mac Studio sits silently on my desk, even running 500+ track ProTools sessions. Definitely considering an upgrade to an M4 Max next year 🤞🏽🤞🏽.
As a hobbyist photographer with an M1 Mac Mini 16gb memory and 512gb ssd, I found this video really useful. I don’t have the workflow of a professional, but I would like a cost effective upgrade as a begin my retirement, as this will hopefully see me out. It has confirmed my decision to buy the M4 pro Mac Mini with 24gb memory and a 512gb ssd.
So glad I found your channel as I'm making the long overdue conversion from maxxed out Mac Pro Intel to Mac Studio Silicon. Pro photographer, 40 years experience, Mac user since Mac II
Thanks Art, good to see you. While the Pro is very good, one point not brought up is as soon as you start upgrading it to the higher chip, SSD, and maybe Ram, you are very close to the Max Studio base price, and the M2 Max is a terrible buy as it’s soon to be replaced. Take the last gen that had comparable specs between the Mini Pro and Max Studio, the pro was a horrible value unless you kept it base. I predict the same to happen here between March and June when the new Studios come out. A used M2 Studio could be worth a look though.
This is an absolute ton of testing and exactly what I was looking for as well, thank you for putting in that work and giving us an incredibly comprehensive comparison.
Thanks - this only confirms my choices and reasoning based upon my work and analysis of the leaked benchmarks. Amazing compliments you will receive for sharing this with us.
Thanks for doing such an exhaustive look at such a wide range of systems - really helps see where you'll benefit for spending more, and where you won't. Other than a few odd results (the base M1/M2/M3 being fastest on the Pano stitch, oddly slow time for 14" M2M on the LrC Export), I can't see much to question in your testing, and nobody else is doing anything like this comprehensive. You've both given me reasons to want to upgrade from my M1 Pro 32GB/2TB 14", and reasons not to (or to look at configs I never would have considered) - no small feat! Thanks for all the great work!
@ Apple M1 Ultra 48-core 64GB memory. When I get the new mini I Will do some comparisons basically testing out things I do frequently in LRC. If it’s no faster I will just send it back to Apple
As always this is the best review comparison for creators on youtube! I went with the mac mini m4 pro. So far very impressed but the fan noise is a bit of a downer. Hope that I rarely really need the full perfomance of the chip.
Great to hear your opinion about the m4 family! looking forwards to the M4 max one to get a full picture. I just have a question as a not even one video per week user with LR and FCP, if I don't need to save time in pro workflow, I am interested in the comparison between M1 Pro and m4, to me it seems this generation of m4 is already similar to the M1 Pro right?
Is it a mistake to upgrade to the M2 Max 64gb ram and 1tb storage for 4K multi-cam video editing now? I'm coming from a 27" 2015 iMac intel so any upgrade will be miles ahead of what I'm working with and I need something now. Is it a mistake getting the M2 Max now or if i should wait for the M4 Max studio next year and get the mini? Would appreciate any advice!

Thanks for stressing out the importance of encoder/decoder for export speed. Nobody else is doing this and your data saved me from buying M4 Pro Mini. I went for the heavily discounted, brand new M1 Max Studio instead.
I'm just thesis wondering whether to choose Mac mini m4 pro 14/20 48gb RAM or Mac Studio 12/30 64gb RAM. I work with video in fcpx and photo in Lightroom. However, with GPU testing the studio performs better. I have one foot in choosing Mac Studio but I still have thoughts whether it is better to invest in the latest m4 pro. I also would like the mac to work with me for a few years. Currently iMac 2020 with 96gb RAM 16gb radeon pro 5700xt i7 intel
PHENOMENAL analysis, thank you! Interesting to see how my 16”MBP M1M 64GB 8TB still is right up there in terms of performance for many of the tasks that I do daily (Lightroom Classic import/export, denoise, ai masks…etc). I’m really looking forward to your future video on the M4 Max machines. The Max SoCs are really the way to go for Pro users so you get the huge boost in GPU cores, memory bandwidth…
I see those numbers and still debate m4 vs m4pro .. just a techy hobbyist loving photography and hardware! A7cii with good glass … does it mather if the export takes 4 min more? Not really .. do I want it snappy? Yes! M4 24/512 vs M4pro 24/512 hmmm…
Thank you for that profund Review. Was considering to switch from my Windows PC to a M4P and I'm really surprised that the Lightroom Denoise for a D810 file on the M4P takes 29 sec. On my i5-6600k with a Nvidia 4060 it takes 24 seconds. Thank's again, 1649€ saved
Absolutely the best. There are the” day to day” tests that I need but everyone else is doing synthetic comparisons that doesn’t tell me a jack shit about how fast my pano from 10 A7R images will be merged or how fast the AI fill will work in LR.
This is where I am torn - all these other people on the RUclips saying M4 Base is good enough for photography, but based on this rather get the M4 Pro. What If I had to get the M4 Base and upgrade the RAM (24GB) and Storage (512GB), still cheaper than the M4 Pro (By a lot in South Africa), is that something feasible or just wasting my time?
Wow, lots of testing, Art! My mind is about to explode but this gave me the information I need. I think a base.Mac Mini M4 Pro with a 1TB SSD is in my future. Thanks, great job.
I appreciate your comparisons and likely best use for each upgrade configuration. I was ready to get the M4 Pro spec'd for photo work but opted to wait for an upcoming Studio due to the Mini's fan revving up and audible.
Excellent video! Could you elaborate on the thermal performance differences between the machines, especially under heavy workloads? I'm concerned about noise levels.
Great video, just liked and subscribed too as the depth and detail in top tier and well beyond what many multiple if not 10s of people channels outputs and all done as a 1 person. Wow. You should be proud of what you are doing and have achieved.
This is a really good review, thank you for your effort. Based on my use and budget, I’ve gone with the M4 Mini Pro (base option) as I’m upgrading from the M1 Mini 16GB 512GB. I’m using LR with 3rd party noise reduction, Audicity for audio podcasts editing, and Final Cut for video editing. To get the base Mac Studio M2 Ultra is $800 more Cdn. At this point, M4 Mini or Mini Pro is so much better than the M1 that I have, that it’s going to help quite a bit, especially now that I’m getting into astrophotography which is has to stack hundreds to thousands of files to make one image (star alignment, image processing for imperfections). Glad to see that the middle of the road performance vs the top Core computers is still pretty good! The Mac Studio M2 Ultra base in Canada is $5500!
Always waiting for you to have the last word if it’s worth or not. Thank you for the effort! Will probably go with the M4P 48gb/1tb, currently on the M1/16gb/256 and to often run out of memory
This is a really informative video. I've watched it multiple times. Thank you for providing such rich information. I have one question. I am currently using an M2 MacBook pro, and I mainly edit 4K footage with Final Cut Pro and Premiere. I don't do much 3D work, but I do some 2D graphics. The size of each project is usually around 2-4 TB. In this case, would it be better to buy a Mac Mini M4 Pro chip or a Mac Studio M2 Max chip?
Great work. The configurator is a bit tricky these days too. On the MBP Max version, you can't just get more than 36GB RAM, you HAVE to upgrade to the better M4 Max chip too, so you can't just do $200 to go up to 48GB RAM, you HAVE to spend $500 and bump up to the 16 core CPU, 40 core GPU. So weird...

Any consideration about one or 10Gb network? I want to keep the new mini for at least four years. No other computer in a network in my home.
If you are going set that up for your home then yes!
