supposedly, this is actually a 'fixed cost' contract, and the Jaguar and it's infantry transport are actually supposed to be 'cheap' as far as military combat vehicles go. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EBRC_Jaguar " the consortium building the "Griffon" and "Jaguar" is contractually obliged to keep the price per Jaguar under €1 million" if we look at the Belgian contract: plan to purchase 60 Jaguar and 417 Griffon vehicles for €1.1 billion more expensive, but: The deal includes spare parts and secure communications equipment military ownership costs are a killer. We'll see whether the 1 mill cost can be maintained (I suspect this is also without the anti-tank missiles); compared to other military vehicles: keep in mind the Jaguar is *not* an IFV a la CV90, Bradley,.. : it does not have troop transport capability. the troop transport is left to the Griffon, who's main armament will be.. a machine gun. sigh. Question then also can be how well armored these things will be, at 25 tons, for 1 million € each. But purchase cost should not be a point of critique at this point.
@@auzor5900 I saw that price quoted but I can't see how it could be delivered with the remote weapons system, retractible anti tank missiles and full range of modern sensors for anywhere near €1mm. I actually prefer this concept for a scout vehicle compared to the Ajax which is almost double the weight, definitley double the cost will be slower and require more maintenance when deployed.
I don't know either. I guess possibly the 1million will be 'vehicle' only. Then again, base vehicle is useless. I think with the Ajax, you're looking at a very different vehicle: tracked, significantly heavier as you mentioned,.. I think it is impossible to say which is 'best'. To be honest, getting a single platform (Ajax in use by Netherlands, UK I think) for EU would have been preferable. But Germany has their families of armored vehicles too.. Swiss has the Piranha's IIRC, then Southern parts of EU has theirs..
@@auzor5900 that's what I was thinking too. The UK spent around €1mm each ordering 500 fox hounds and they are nowhere near as complex as the Jaguar. I know it uses a commercial chassis but the armour and suspesion all looks top class. I think they will sell a bunch of them.
looks like it is going to cost more than a tank
