This is super encouraging to see. Visited South Africa back in 2019, didn't get the chance to ride any trains but I remmember being outside Ellis Park station. It was in a sorry state (and one of the entrances seemed to have smoke billowing out from it???) but it appeared to be operational at least. Since then I have looked at the rail network on Google Maps and seen it get worse and worse, with the infrastructure seemingly just being abandoned and crumbling as people are left to pick away at its carcass for scraps of valuables, it seemed almost akin to giving up on rail transport and embracing the car (a stupid move in a country where many people can't afford cars) but I guess now the network is doing the unthinkable and making a huge comeback with all this work! I hope that this is only the beginning and all Metrorail services in Gauteng, Cape Town, Durban and PE/Gqeberha will be restored and upgraded to "Gautrain standards" and then maybe we could finally see some new rail transport in the country like fast and frequent Intercity trains between cities on existing track, rural services on every inch of the tracks which are currently only used by freight, and maybe if we're being optimistic, some subway systems and a Johannesburg-Durban bullet train (maybe that last one is a pipe dream for now though, but someday...)
It brings back good memories, I used to take a train from park station to Dunswart station in boksburg back in 2003 . Try take a morning train 😂😂 you will get the real experience of rush hour in trains .preaching , vendors selling magwinya, chaotic but I miss those days!!!.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. If only the government limited tenders for such projects like cleaning and rebuilding maybe some stations could be working already but so far, nice and beautiful
I'm so enjoying your metro rail videos. Thank you. Bringing back childhood memories. If you haven't already and you get a chance try the Southern suburbs line from Cape Town CBD to Simon's Town. I used to travel on that line as a kid, just beautiful back in the day
Very encouraging- thanks for posting. Just curious if you knew about the pedestrian bridge that collapsed over those tracks near Jeppe station? It's going to take a lot more than some tar on the platforms to get it all safe to use.
do you think they will ever fix jeppestown station go do a walk thru there, there has been a rule ever since that station was built that any long distance train had to stop there before going on.
Wow Ellispark sorry to be negative now but why is the station abandoned. This is one of the most important stations in Johannesburg, for event’s like when springboks host other rugby team’s people could be coming from the suburbs by gautrain the connect to metro rail you will save a lot of time than driving there.
Agreed. I didnt even know this area had train stations. 😂😂😂Hard lockdown made people vandalize them, so now we have to rebuild them. Positive stuff coming.
@@LivinginSAtv it should be promoted more to people to use public transport it should not be only meant for the lower class people. Try to make a video if the open Ellis park just incase there’s a springbok game taking a gautrain then connect to metrorail. It could be a good advertisement for public transport.
And forget about the stress of finding a parking spot. Literally a win. I do see it in hatfield and wonder if i can take it to like park station instead of the gautrain cause it's so expensive to ride on the gautrain these days. This gorgeous blue train would be such a good alternative 💙

True. It is shocking now unbelievable it's not like the place that we previously knew I don't know how this was allowed to happen for the city to deteriorate this level. Sad that PRASA let the system decay in the first place which results in extra costs to rehabilitate. Nice to see the revitalisation. Thanks for a great video.
Government defunded PRASA for 29 years now. Yet we expect excellent service? It is unrealistic to strangle your horse but expect it to run fast or go far.
You look like a person who can come up with some plans, why not talk to the station managers and discuss how to change the hawking problems. it was never like that 20 years ago but slowly the police and station management and council started to be over flowing with problems. It is absolutely shocking seeing JHB in that state, 50 - 30 years ago it was one of the best cities in the world, you literally paved in gold.
